Portland Bill Catch Report

Recommended Posts

Fished the bill last night with Phooey,Zzippy and Speciman--launched around 5.30pm.Flat calm but with powerful spring tides.Launched and paddled up to the crane section where Phooey had been all afternoon.Bouyed up and had 2 rods out with full squid and another with a mackerel flapper. Was changing the bait one one of the squid rods and I noticed my rod with the flapper(was in the rear rod holder) was bent double.Considering the size of the beast it was fairly easy to get it up to the surface where it started to really thrash around and kept doing a death roll like a crocodilecongersplash.jpgmanaged to get another pic when it calmed down a bit

congerking.jpg I estimate this Conger to be 50lb+,Phooey has some better photos that will show the size in relation to surrounding objects

But I reckon it's the British Kayak caught Conger Record---------anyone know different?

brilliant catch

The salary of the chief executive of a large corporation is not a market award for achievement. It is frequently in the nature of a warm personal gesture by the individual to himself.

I would have posted earlier but 17 straight hours 'in the saddle' with a lot of paddling around in spring tides has left my ass feeling like I was bu**ered by moby dick and my torso like I've had a thorough 'shoeing' with a baseball bat.

However here's my take...

I launched at around 10.00 it was warm calm and sunny.

I took some topographical pictures...

I started to fish near the pointy end of the BILL...

I fished fo a while...

Eventually it got dark...

I had the obligatory doggies..

THEN .....

CONGER !!!!

No, not mine...I was busy keeping dogfish off the MAESTRO's bait ( at least I was some use to somebody last night ).

Congrats you jammy sod !:clap::clap:

I must mention the massive squid ZIPPY caught which is going to be wasted anywhere other than on the end of a nice big CONGER or COD hook

and SpeciMan's home made bait tank - AWESOME ! You should open a shop !
