General

Some excellent fishing on most days however if still water and very still air then the fishing goes off but does come back on when a ripple on the water develops, and is fishing fantastic at dusk, overnight and dawn.

Water temperature has held at 15 deg this week so nice and stable, but is lower than should be for August.

Lots of regular anglers trying out different methods and reporting back with mixed results from one day to the next. The tip is proving to be the most successful with pole next then waggler float but plumbing up each swim is critical for good results.

Hook baits working at 15 deg water temp are :-  paste, which can be great then the fish go off, pellet seems to be a constant success working well both as a hook bait and hair rigged. Caster &  maggot both have success but do attract smaller fish as well as larger fish, worm on its own is working but it becomes great when tipped with  either sweetcorn, caster or maggot, mussle & prawn have had good success, so has cubed luncheon meat.

Lookout

Pegs which have been fishing very well are the ones facing the wind direction with pegs 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 14, 15,16aa to 16,  20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 33, 37,38, 40. 41, 42 doing very well.

Plumbing up is critical to success with feed patterns and hook baits chosen for the species targeted very important.

Fish tight in margins up on the edge of the planting shelf at 3ft out 3 ft deep, or try 6 ft out and 6 ft deep for the edge of the second shelf, alternatively try  6 metres out and go for rudd on the drop, go down slightly over depth for skimmers, keep the feed going in to keep them in the swim.

Colin Gowan on his first visit to angel was amazed at the variety of species he managed to catch with his first ever golden rudd and golden tench he ended the day with 53 fish including carp to his guess over 100lb fish.

Ray Wallace had two exceptional ghost carp on Sunday,  Norman Eden using pellet flavoured with garlic liquid had crucians, lots of carp to 4lb, tench and golden tench, roach, and skimmers around 35 fish on a half day session.

Bowes

The tip is working very well on this lake with pole next, then waggler. Colin Thompson fishing less than 3 hours using meat on the hook and fed very well angel fed pellets took 28 carp to 5lb.  Dave Hodgson on tip, pole and pellet waggler had a great day trying out different methods and baits took over 70 carp a good average of 5 lb.

Jimmy Hagan on peg 19 using tip and pole (but smashed a section on his pole) tried paste, pellet and most success was on worm cocktails with his day ending early with a broken pole section catching in excess of  50 carp getting snapped on two lumps.

Some good doubles coming out with season ticket holder paul gibson getting his PB, Ian Richardson taking three doubles inside half an hour

Bassetts

Some exceptional catches with all species being caught including good sized roach to 1lb – 1 ½ lb and ide to 2lb 2oz,  crucians to 2lb, golden tench to 2lb 9oz, and carp to a  lovely 9lb 7oz common carp, the rudd and golden rudd have piled weight on with a 1lb 10oz being caught, skimmers also to 1lb being caught. All pegs have been fishing well but remain tight in the margins for some great numbers of fish,
