This winter’s alternating mild and cold spells have made it easier to identify the feeding spells at borwickfishing.co.uk. The fish, which have been lying dormant under the ice, burst into action as soon as the thaws start. Pike, in particular, feel the need to feed up as soon as possible to pack on weight as they are the first fish to spawn. Now is an excellent time to fish for them as they are at their heaviest in the next two months.

Steve PriestleyThe latest thaw showed how good it can be with two Pike over the magical 20lb landed within the week. New borwickfishing.co.uk syndicate member, Steve Priestley from Bolton was the first to score with a fish of 20lb 1oz to ledgered sardine . But the fish had hardly been put back when, within days of joining, fellow syndicate member, Steven Crossman, from Millom guided a superb 25lb fish to the bank. John used ledgered mackerel fished close in on Jimmy’s Lake. Other pikers have found double figure fish obliging with fish showing in almost any pool on site. Fishery Manager, Steve Griffiths, on his way to a meeting in Kendal, twitched a sprat through Little Brooker, stocked with ornamental species and had two takes in four casts and was on his way after just 20 minutes! To compensate for the loss of fishing, the take a friend fishing for free offer, introduced in September, has been extended  until 14th March 2009. Details and forms are available from the website www.borwickfishing.co.uk or from the bailiff on site.

Other fish too, are quick to feed whenever it warms. Light feeding is the order of the day with maggots and caster scoring well and the fish are in deeper water with feeder fishing the best option if the water is shallow close in. Contact on-site bailiff, Jimmy, on 07984 399637 to find out where the concentrated shoals are located to make big catches.
