Fishery report for week ending 14th April, 2013

This week has, once again, seen awful weather, bitter winds and freezing rain before a slight increase in temperature over the weekend which heralded better news for the competitors in the Southern Carp Cup Qualifier held at Emperor Lakes. It’s the first time we have been fortunate enough to be a chosen venue for this prestigious trophy and we look forward to hosting further rounds in years to come. The prevailing winds didn’t help the competition, with only two fish landed during the match, and the win went to Adriano Mercato / Jensen Mannings pairing who latched into a 32lb 7oz specimen on Saturday to firmly establish a lead only threatened by the Chris Rampling / Paul Lingham duo, who netted a 30lb 3oz fish which picked up their ACE Baits Natural Nut pop up. Paul also lost a fish which would have resulted in the overall win. Three other fish were lost during the contest, any of which could have changed the leaderboard!

Mirror Carp

The Specimen Lake fared a little better, with anglers reporting catches from a number of areas, and that fish have been on the move and feeding. Pete Marriott had a nice common of 22lb 3oz, and Dave Wood added a mirror carp of 20lb 4oz and a scraper double from peg six; all three fell to Pallatrax Jungle baits. Consistent rod Mark Owen had a brace of mid doubles weighing 15lb 13oz and 16lb 9oz on his favoured ‘Northern Specials’ pop up baits and Rob Pierce also chipped in with a low double mirror and a nice tench of just under 5lb. Quality baits such as the Steve Renyard Contrast range, Pallatrax Jungle and ACE Baits are scoring well on this lake so with accurate placement and simple rigs, you should expect to catch…..

TenchMaggots are proving to be the best bait this week on Aimee’s Coarse Pool. Stuart Johnson had over 30lb of plump silver fish in just a few hours, and bailiff Jamie Parr spent time coaching first time angler Abigail Jones who put over 10lb of fish in the net within an hour! Not a bad start to an angling career! Michael Barthomolew returned with his trusty centrepin and traditional tackle set up to deposit 40lb of mainly roach in his keepnet and Steve Sampson slipped the net under a new personal best tench of 6lb 8oz, in addition to catching brown goldfish and ghost carp; two species he had never caught before!

The former syndicate lake has generated plenty of interest amongst anglers looking to target carp to 44lb+ and catfish to over 70lb on a day ticket basis after the recent changes…..sadly, some anglers are booking on, then failing to turn up, which means we are considering a non refundable deposit at time of booking to ensure that no one loses out.
