Kiveton Waters, the newest addition to British Waterways’ fisheries portfolio, is now open for business.  During the inaugural match held on Friday 30 June, anglers from Sheffield City Council recorded an average weight of 79lbs, with six of the 19 anglers catching in excess of 125lbs, and top honours going to Dave Bilson who weighed in 150.75lbs of Tench and Carp.

Situated off Hard Lane, Kiveton Park, on the former Kiveton Park Colliery Site, Kiveton Waters extends to 10 acres encompassing three lakes (one of which is silver fish only) with 78 pegs, including disabled platforms.  There is adequate car parking on site with good access to the disabled pegs, as well as a purpose built amenities block.  The lakes, which total approximately 6.5 acres, have been extensively stocked with a variety of species including Tench, Carp, Roach, Rudd and other silver fish.

Stuart Walton, Leisure Development Manager, British Waterways East Midlands commented: “We are delighted that Kiveton Waters is finally open.  The first match held on Friday was an overwhelming success and we are confident that Kiveton Waters, under the expert management of Mr & Mrs Wayne Dye, will go from strength to strength.”

The management team of Mr & Mrs Dye have been inundated with bookings for matches and, now that Kiveton Waters has opened, they are keen to welcome anglers from across the region.  Day tickets are also available for the pleasure anglers.

â€œThere has been a lot of interest and the hardest thing has been turning people away whilst we were waiting for the site to open.  Now that we are open we are in a unique position because we can offer anglers across Yorkshire the kind of fishing and facilities that they would previously have had to travel much further afield for,” explained Mr Dye.  “We are taking a considerable number of match bookings, and we expect significant interest from pleasure anglers as well.”

Kiveton Waters and the adjacent Kiveton Country Park is part of the former Kiveton Park Colliery Site reclaimed by Renaissance South Yorkshire on behalf of Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency, utilising funding from English Partnerships through the National Coalfield Programme.  Contractors Cheetham Hill Construction and consultants White Young Green and ENCIA delivered the project on the ground with design input from a team of specialists from British Waterways.
