This week has seen some variation in the weather, which has called for a change in fishing methods from day to day. The water temp is still around 15 C. This week rod average is still a healthy 4.9 and with another two stockings to go it should still fish well to the end of the season, which finishes on Sunday October the 29th.

This week saw the international fly fishing competition come to Brenig. This was the autumn match. The match was on Friday and everyone set off in high hopes as they had had three very good practice days. Scotland came first with 94 fish for 161 lb 14.375 oz, in second place came Ireland with 85 fish for 146 lb 5.625 oz, just behind Ireland came Wales, who only caught 4 fish less, they had 81 fish for 142 lb 3.875 oz, and in last place came England with 62 fish for 108 lb 10.875 oz. The brown bowl went to Robert Reilly of Ireland who caught 12 fish for 22 lb 3.625, and the H. Emyr Lewis Trophy went to Keith Nicholson of England who caught the heaviest fish of the day at 3 lb 8.625 oz.

This week has seen the vast majority of the lake fishing well but the best hotspots have been the bottom of Brenig arm for the boats and banks alike. Other hotspots have been Tower Bay, Ring of Stones and Hafod Lom woods. The best methods this week have been Dry fly patterns, and fast/slow glass lines fished with mini Lures and dabblers for the bank and for the boats the methods have been much the same but boobys on slow sinking lines have also been doing well.
