The past week at Llys-y-Fran Reservoir has been accompanied by what can only be described as unseasonable weather for this part of Wales during the month of August. Pembrokeshire normally experiences mild to warm conditions with light winds at this time of year; obviously this is one of the reasons that so many families pick it as a holiday destination. This during the past week has not been the case; winds from the north and west have proved predominant with cold air accompanying them.

The unseasonable weather has however had benefits for those anglers fishing fly from either bank or boat, many are now taking fish using most lines and patterns. Obviously the head of fish presently held within the Reservoir, due to the hot conditions during late June and July, is more than healthy and this is now proving beneficial for anglers using this method as their preferred way of fishing. Fish are now being seen, in numbers moving on the surface throughout the Reservoir on most days. This should, provided there are no more periods of warm weather give the traditionalist fly angler the opportunity to maximize on his or her sport.
