News just in that commercial fishery Bury Lane near Royston which Luton AC members can fish at a discounted rate has been closed by the Environment Agency until further notice due to low oxygen levels. We are told that it is likely to remain closed until October 2010.

Nash Bait & Nash Terminal Tackle are providing a £100 prize of bait and terminal tackle each month to the winner of our new monthly photo competition. It is open to anyone (members and non members) submitting a digital photo taken on any Luton AC controlled water and it can be of absolutely anything eg a sunset on the canal, a nice fish, wildlife etc. The photos submitted cannot be over a month old, the judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the result. Braidan TidmarshWoodlands Lake will be closed on Saturday 14th August 2010 to make safe a dangerous tree which appears to have been struck by lightning. The adjacent Barretts Mere will remain open.

Braidan Tidmarsh age 9 from St Neots fished North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex with his father and grandad. Fishing his first night on the water Braidan landed three personal bests a 28lb 2oz common, an 8lb+ bream and a 4lb tench. All of Braidans fish were caught on Source boilies fished in a clear area next to some weed. The trio fished again a few days later with Braidan having another common of 16.5lb. At the same venue S. Duffy had a 4lb tench, A Murphy a 16lb 8oz mirror, J Hansell a 17lb 8oz mirror, Glen Millier a 14lb 7oz linear, Harvie Millier a 12lb 12oz common, Mark Farrell an 18lb common and David Starling a 17lb 1oz common.

Brett Herdman has sent me pictures of a couple of his recent North House captures, a mirror known as Pecs at 26lb 1oz and a 23lb 8oz common. See below…
 
Eels continue to be caught from the adjacent South Lagoon with John Frost having one of about a pound on maggots. Also on the Lagoon Andy Tibbutt caught a 19lb 12oz common while Ivan Sayer landed a 24lb common and 18lb mirror. Lots of bream are being caught both during the day and at night. There is a match on the South Lagoon on Sunday 8th August 2010 and the water will be off limits from 8am on that day.
 
Barney Hodgson age 14 from Ampthill was at Beckerings Reservoir near Flitwick and fishing his first night session on the water tempted a personal best mirror of 19lb along with two other mirrors of 14lb and 13lb 2oz plus a 12lb 2oz common. Also fishing Beckerings was Ian Dilley who landed a mirror of 21lb 4oz along with commons of 16lb 2oz and 13lb. All of Ians fish were caught close in on boilies fished over a bed of particles. Peter Strudwick managed a carp of 20lb+, James Muncaster a couple of doubles and Ashley Larman five doubles. Lots of roach and bream are being caught on the pole with pellet and corn being the top baits.

Michael Smith was fishing the Grand Union Canal and banked a 17lb mirror and 11lb common on A2D Baits Spicy Crab and Mussel Boilies.
 
A workparty to replace platforms will take place on Saturday 21st August 2010 starting 09.00am at the River Great Ouse Biddenham. If you can help with this workparty please contact the club office or send an email via the web site.
 
Luton AC are looking for bailiffs for two river sections near Milton Keynes and Bedford plus the Grand Union Canal around the Stoke Hammond/Leighton Buzzard/Pitstone areas. Please send an email to any of the Fisheries Management Team via the club website contacts page if you are interested.
