Weekly report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits and Five Star Baits

Luton AC offers fantastic fishing for most species with Carp to 37lb+, Tench 8lb+, Bream 10lb+, Chub 7lb+, Zander 16lb+, Pike near 30lb, Perch 3lb+ and Roach and Rudd over 2lb. All of the clubs stillwaters including 12 miles of the Grand Union Canal are open all year round and alot offer secure parking close to the venue. Unlike some clubs Luton AC do not charge a premium for night fishing or fishing between March and June. Money from subscriptions is continually being ploughed back into improving the fisheries for the benefit of its members through work parties throughout the year.

Skimmer breamThe latest work party took place on 8th May 2011 at the River Great Ouse Biddenham. Ten members attended seven being club officials. Paving slab ramps were laid at the foot bridges to aid mower access. Several swim platforms were replaced, the car park, footpaths and swim areas were mown, strimmed  and pruned. Thank you to everyone for attending and  the work done.
 
Callum Anderson age 4 from Leighton Buzzard returned to the Grand Union Canal with his dad and caught quality skimmer bream and roach fishing single red maggot on a 3m whip.

The Slapton section below the lock is fishing well for bream to 5lb on both pole and light leger tactics. Ivinghoe is also producing decent bags of bream, roach and perch to float fished maggot.

Carp continue to show throughout with the best reported this week weighing 19lb 12oz.
 
Woodland Lake has been in blistering form with 60lb+ bags of tench, bream and carp reported to pole fished pellet with alot of the tench topping 4lb.

Stuart Fellowes bumper haul consisted of 15 tench and 3 carp with all of the fish coming to pellet presented close to overhanging trees. The bream have been showing to corn fished over depth about 3 rod lengths out.

John Frost had a 4lb 8oz tench up in the water on a single red maggot and size 16 hook with his friend Dennis Coppenhall having 2 carp of 7lb 8oz and 5lb 8oz in quick succession on sweetcorn.

On Barretts Mere father and son duo Damon and Peter Smith took a good haul of roach and rudd with fish to 12oz, maggot, caster and corn were the successful baits.

Members are reminded that Woodlands and Barretts Mere are float only waters.
 
At Beckerings Reservoir Dave Hyne had a successful overnighter landing five carp with mirrors of 24lb, 16lb, 16lb and 14lb 8oz plus a common of 19lb 2oz. Mark Ridgeway managed six to 21lb followed a few days later by another six fish hit with commons of 22lb, 19lb 14oz, three other doubles and a 20lb 6oz mirror. ‘Shy Simon’ Jackson landed Little Gertie at 27lb 6oz. Colin Holmes caught tench using method feeder tactics while a member who did not want to be named landed a specimen 8lb 2oz tench.
 
At North House Lake Ian Dilley cast to showing fish and was rewarded with a 15lb 12oz common on a Starmer Coconut Fish pop up fished on a Chod Rig. Ollie Caress did a couple of sessions resulting in mirrors of 33lb 1oz, 21lb 8oz and 17lb with commons of 31lb 2oz, 23lb, 20lb, 20lb and 19lb 2oz plus a specimen 13lb 4oz bream. Elliott Archer managed commons of 30lb and 22lb, Marc Fonseca a 22lb common and 16lb mirror, Skid a 17lb 8oz common, Adam Beale a 17lb 8oz common, Rober Smith a 17lb common and 6lb tench, Mark Hodgson a 17lb 8oz mirror and Steve Clark a 7lb common.
 
On the adjacent South Lagoon plenty of bream and roach are being caught but the carp, pike and zander have been quiet over the last week.
 
The winner of our May photo competition will receive 10kg of the new Starmer Baits Coconut Fish boilies. It is open to anyone (members and non members) submitting a digital photo taken on any Luton AC controlled water and it can be of absolutely anything eg a sunset on the canal, a nice fish, wildlife etc. The photos submitted cannot be over a month old, the judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the result.
