I joined the new Bedfordshire Specimen Anglers web site recently and have found this free site to be an ever growing wealth of information and well worth signing up to if you fish any waters in the Bedfordshire area. James Beardwell, aka ‘The Secret Angler’, has been doing very well on the Luton AC Beckerings Reservoir in recent weeks and when he contacted me earlier in the week he had notched up 30 carp in 8 day sessions and 2 nights along with at least the same number of bream. Whilst others have struggled on the water James has caught by being different and not fishing over beds of baits. His favourite tactic is to travel light and move onto showing fish. Bait has tended to be a Nutrabaits bottom bait with a stick of finely blended boilies. Slack lines and very light bobbins are again different from the bow string set ups that alot use and James says that he casts around very little to avoid spooking fish.
At North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex Ashley Phelan landed a 10lb common and Mick Gross caught an immaculate 13lb common on his first visit. There is a work party at North House Lake on Saturday 19th December 2009 commencing at 9am and the lake will be closed to anglers from Friday evening until Sunday morning. The closure is to allow work to progress on the otter fence and all volunteers would be most welcome to attend.
On the River Great Ouse at Lavendon Mill Dave Murdoch Snr and Fergal OKane found the fish feeding after the recent rain and both caught unseasonal tench to around 5lb using lobworm and paste as baits.
