Week ending 4th February, 2013 – report by Phil Dixon, fishery director

Well another great week of fishing despite the awful weather.  Anglers have braved some very high winds, Snow and ice this week but have all caught plenty of fish which they have all deserved.

Regular angler Tony from Stoke had a great day catching 6 fish including a fully finned fine double weighing 12lb 8ozs.  Tony caught the big fish second cast on a Yellow Dancer fished slow on a sink tip line off the railway pool.  Other anglers have been catching some fine fish up to 9lb and some cracking Blue trout to 5lb.

Slow and deep with lure have been the way to catch fish this week with the cold weather the trout seem to be hugging the bottom.  White/Green, Black/Green, Humungus and Wet flies have been the most successful for fisherman fished slow.  Keep on the move and try both lakes is also the key to catching.

Hopefully we will get some settled weather and the trout will start to look up for food or even for them dries.  Seighford is by far the best dry fly small water around with it’s gin clear water and good weed growth the fly life is unbelievable when the weather warms up.

Tight lines and see you all soon.
