Winter Shore Fishing In Northern Norway

{Anna at Tacklebox Holidays sent us this report towards the end of February, but things have been so hectic here that I've only just found time to go through my emails! If you've ever fancied the prospect of shore fishing in Norway, be sure to check out some of the offers on the Tacklebox Holidays websiteEd}

Last week, we had our 1st group of Welsh fishermen and welcomed them to our lovely camp in Andorja , Northern Norway.  Andorja is an island, sitting in a perfect position amongst some of Norway’s most spectacular scenery, including the highest island mountains in Scandinavia. The intention was to explore the shore fishing  between April and November, but we couldn’t resist one winter trip and boy we’re glad we did!

We headed to our 1st mark, Neil was the 1st to hook into the fish after baiting up with fresh herring. We waited around 30 minutes and a good bend of the rod produced  a very large halibut that made it to the shore! We were so busy whooping for joy that we didn’t manage to gaff it in time!

Not long after, Paul's rod bent fiercely forward a couple of times and then stayed forward, fish on, and after a smooth, exciting battle a 17.5 pound Cod was landed, smashing Paul's personal best clean out the water!

Next it was Shaun's turn, and a fantastic fight saw the crystal clear water deliver a 15.5 lb Cod. Fish after fish came in that night. The lads all caught great fish and beat all their own personal records on the first night. They named this virgin mark the Pembrokeshire platform and we are sure the Pembrokeshire platform mark will see some great sized fish landed on it for many years to come.

“Those sea Eagles could teach us a thing or two”

The wildlife up in North Norway is incredible, Mouse(Elk) reindeer, eagles , whales and all sorts of nature can be observed. A place that has remained the same for thousands of years. Imagine the serenity, sitting at one with nature, Northern lights dancing above you as your reel screams into action. Can you think of a better way to spend time!

The real beauty came three days into the trip, with a 28lb cod being landed on the Pembrokeshire  platform plus many other fish, needless to say it was hard to pull the lads away from this mark, you know how it is, once a mark starts to produce why not return? Again and again!

Andorja  Island is so full of potential huge fish, and potential marks. I know the lads will agree they they had a fantastic time. It’s fishing heaven for us guys from the UK, deserted marks and endless possibilities and the very real chance of beating your own personal  best.

Tight lines to all.
