Macmillan Cancer Support is giving anglers the chance to land a £1000 fish at their annual fundraising event ‘The Big Fish’. And simply by casting a fly-line you can help provide a life-line to someone affected by cancer.
The Big Fish will be taking place across 10 venues in Scotland. Celebrity angler Paul Young is getting behind the event for the second year in a row and is encouraging fellow anglers to get involved, “The Big Fish is a great event as it gives us a chance to go out and do what we love while raising money for a fantastic charity. There are so many people in Scotland affected by cancer who require Macmillan’s help – so get involved and allow Macmillan to change their lives.”
At each venue anglers will have the opportunity to reel in some great prizes which includes £1,000 for catching the tagged fish. Other prizes include ‘The Paul Young Trophy’, which is awarded to the angler who brings the highest donations, while there are prizes for heaviest bag and biggest fish. Everyone who takes part in this year’s event will also be entered into a prize draw to win a day’s fishing with Paul Young.
By taking part and raising funds participants will be helping cancer patients and their families meet some tough challenges. With one in three people diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives, the need for Macmillan’s services has never been so vital.
David Grout, Macmillan Fundraising Manager, hopes that the local community can make a real difference “All too often we see people affected by cancer not receiving the support they need. By getting behind events like The Big Fish, we’re able to make a greater impact on the lives of those who desperately need our help.”
