Responding to the comments made by Fisheries Minister Ben Bradshaw in Luxembourg, Jeffrey Titford MEP the UK Independence Party Agriculture said, “It is about time that the Fisheries Minister showed a less supine attitude toward defending the interests of British fishermen, when he is dealing with the European Commission.

I welcome his more robust approach and I am sure that it is no coincidence that this new attitude has occurred shortly after my meetings with EU Fisheries Commissioner Borg and Mr Bradshaw himself.  I hope he will continue to speak up for British interests”.

The Minister had attacked the Commission for failing to apply the same rules on over fishing to the French Bluefin Tuna fleet as it does to the UK’s mackerel fisheries.
