Weekly report for week ending 5th February, 2012

Wellsfield Fishery is fully open, and ice free, thanks to the Ice Prevention Wave Machines on all three ponds.  The fishery is open 8am-5pm, 7 days.

Rainbow Trout fishing has been good this week, and the rainbows and blues are aggressively chasing lures and providing great sport for all anglers.  There has also been a few out of season large brown trout caught this week, with the largest being a beautiful yellow bellied 5lb brownie, taken on fly and returned safely.

Many anglers bagged their fish limits, using the correct methods, speeds and most importantly depth.  Most fish are taking about 4-5 feet down from the surface, as well as near the bottom.

With the ponds depths averaging 10ft down to 19ft, fish can be found anywhere at this time of year, depending on the weather conditions.  Many anglers have been catching fish as they chase minnows and sticklebacks in about the margins.

There is a very good head of trout in all 3 lochans at the moment.  Best flies this week: Silver Humungus, Claret Damsel GH, Black/Red Cheeked Buzzer, Bloodworm, Holographic Diawl Bachs fished on a long leader. Best Baits: Ledgered Worm, Maggots and Size Zero Mepps Spinners.

Largest fish of the week was a 12lb 8oz Rainbow Trout for P Reilly (Edinburgh) in his bag of 4 trout for 21lb using lures.

One Red £50 prize tag was caught by lucky angler C Brown (Torrance) from the bait pond.
