Owner of Woodford Fly Fishery, Darren Wallace and his team have won the Grand Final of the Lexus European Team Fly Fishing Championships.

Based in Carrickfergus, Team Woodford Greys Ireland travelled to Rutland Water in England to compete in the two day competition.

Using Greys Platinum XD rods, this is the team’s fourth time taking part in the prestigious competition, the team previously finished fourth place in 2006.

Made up of six members, including Campbell Baird as Captain, Team Woodford Greys Ireland battled over two days and defeated twenty two teams from around the UK and Ireland, finishing in first place with 73 fish weighing in at 159lb 15oz.

Team Captain, Campbell Baird said;
“We are absolutely delighted to be the first Irish team to win a major competition. We would like to thank Greys for all their support.”

The team also fished the Individual Lexus Fly Fishing Championships on Chew Valley Lake and Campbell came second, also qualifying for the Irish Championships in 2009.
