  1. Great review, i have been thinking about getting a sail for for odd occasion and this one might be the answer. Thanks for the time and effort.
  2. Don't know if it is of any help but i got my Tarpon 160i from them and i have been very pleased with it. It's a good looking boat (looks great on the car with my surfboard ) and very fast. Tank well has ample space, i have managed to fit a fish finder on with no problem. Anchor fixing was hard due to the position of the carry handles. Bit difficult to use the factory fitted rod holder to the front when paddling as it seems to be in the way whichever position i try. Would i buy the same again - yes. My mate has a Ocean Prowler which i have tried and it was a harder paddle but a bit more stable when fishing.
  3. Hi Chaz, Good to hear from you. Could do South Cornwall, bit more of a drive but not to bad if we go over the moor to Plymouth. Can you join us Chaz? Nigel
  4. Can anyone in South Devon give me any good launch sites. There are two of us thinking traveling from the North of the county to try the South coast. Also what the best target species would be in that area. Thanks
  5. Hi Dave If you ever fancy meeting up there are a few of us here in North Devon. Nigel
  6. Hi Mark Great report as always. I own a home for adults with a learning disability and in May we are coming to the broads for a weeks holiday. They love fishing as I take them locally (N.Devon). What sort of fishing is available in May month? Do you need a license? We will be on one of the hire boats. Cheers Nigel
  7. Hi Cannonfodder Next time you are in Barnstaple call into Casey's store on Rolle Quay. They have a good selection of ropes and anchors. Also a good selection of other items that are useful for Yak fishing. Nigel.
  8. Hi all I am busy tiding up a few items on my kayak and thought I would do a bit of research on the internet. I have not seen any links to these videos on this Forum, so just in case you have not seen them here is one link: Happy rigging, Nigel.
  9. Does anyone us a Telescopic Rod? I am looking into getting a new spinning rod and wondered if anyone had tried a telescopic. They all seem cheep to buy, are they cheep for a reason? They idea of a telescopic seems a good one for a kayak, especially if you need to paddle back to shore through some swell. Just pack it up and put it out of harms way. Be good to know of anyones experiences. Nigel
  10. And merry Christmas to you from Barnstaple. The weather has be atrocious. Nothing to report on the fishing front, keeping busy with rigs and writing letters to Santa.
  11. Hi, I have at last bought a fish finder and have read through the past post on fitting but can not find any info on the best way to get the cable through the kayak to the battery and transducer. Has anyone got any good water tight solutions? Thanks
  12. Hi Chaz Good to hear you are getting out a bit. A friend caught a 6.5lb Bass last week in the Estuary, we need to get together to have a go. As for the feet, they are the first part of my body to get cold. I am OK when i have my dry suit on with a thick pair of socks and boots on top!!!! I guess it is the lack of exercises and therefore lack of blood they a getting compared to the rest of the body. Some gentle exercising whilst paddling / fishing helps. Hope to meet up soon Nigel
  13. Hi Adam I have not fished there this time of year but went out once in the summer, did not have any luck. Easy paddle with not to many currents. However i went all the way to the point and it is very different there as the tides and currents meet making it look like the water is boiling even on a quite day. The area is popular with Anglers and i know people spear fish all along that area of rock. Where to you intend to launch from? If the surf is i don't know of any suitable launch sites. May-be Barricane and mid to high tide? Would love to come out with you but i am working this weekend and organizing the Fire works at Chivenor.
  14. Thanks for the replies, good tips and guidlines.
  15. I should have known better when I drop my anchor. I had been drift fishing of Lee Bay in North Devon; the tide was fast and high (10.2mtr) and having to battle for 10 minutes against the tide to paddle back to my starting point after on 10 minutes of drift I decided to drop the anchor. It dug in as soon as it hit the bottom and immediately the Kayak was pulled around and the tug almost sent me in. I tried to pull the anchor back up but with no success, the current was too strong. I have recently started wearing a dive knife strap to my leg for safety and ease and it was with some relief that I had it at hand to cut the anchor free. Although the anchor is tide to the rear side of the boat it was not back far enough so the Kayak was at an angle to the on coming current. Lesson learnt. Not all was lost, carried on fishing and had a nice 3lb Pollock. (Size ten hook with a Sand Eel) + some decent mackerel. Best tips I can give after this adventure is get a dive knife and test your anchor in gentle currents.

  17. Hi, Has anyone out there go the Garmin GPSMAP 178C Chart / Sounder, if so how good is it. 40 soon !! have started earning points with the wife so that I might get it for my Birthday.
  18. P.S. If your in the Barnstaple area you are welcome to come and look at them in the garage.
  19. Hi Adam, Had a set of feathers on and put a large hook on the end with half a squid. The water was clear that day and as I was bring the rod up on one occasion I could see a fish (unclear what but a decent size) darting in and eat the squid ! Ill put a couple of hooks on next time.
  20. Hi I have a Bic Tobago which I sometimes use for fishing when I go with a friend. I have the deluxe seats with road holders. They take some practice to fit as you have to get the straps just right but once you have done this they are very comfortable. Don't be afraid to tighten them as much as you can. As for the rod holders they are O.K. but if you are hoping to use them whilst paddling the rods can dig into your back. Overall I think the standard seats fine and just fit some rods holders on your yak. Nigel.
  21. Hi Adam Fished right on that spot (I think) last week . Had a few good mackerel and a 400mm trigger fish (good fun) also a reasonable Pollock. Found the current fast around that spot. Glad I had 16ft Kayak to get back to the bay. I know trigger fish like wrecks, but would like to find a decent Bass before they go. Went out on a beautiful day, there were a lot of spearfisher’s and one other Yaker was that you?
  22. Great, thanks for the replies . Ill go to that mark again and see if i can have some fun with another Triggerfish. Must take my camara out with me.
  23. Hi all, Do any of you know if Trigger Fish are any good to keep? I caught a large one of the North Devon Coast this weekend and did not know much about it. After a long battle to get the hook out (gnashing teeth and a bard on its back ) I put it back. Should I of kept it? Would it make a good lunch ? Size was approx 400mm long from tip to tail. Also caught several Mackerel and a Pollock.
