Errrm

I'm not sure as usual...... I suspect I will spend the Spring and Summer either frogging for Pike or fishing for Chub with lures on the River Cam. I'm also toying with the idea of joining a syndicate again, the last one I joined was crammed full of people and wasn't my idea of quiet, peaceful and tranquil :-).

Thanks, Cuba was quite a bit warmer...... But the tench pulled almost as hard as a Wahoo :-). If only I could find a lake like Wingham in a climate like Cuba...... I'd move there now :-)

Congratulations! Is the weather holding up or has it turned worse?

I left early as well due to feeling unwell and lack of any activity in my swim. As you heard I managed to catch a new PB again, more I felt out of my three rods it was the only one I fished half well and I was just quite lucky, some things I did might have helped but in the end it was very difficult even with tench feeding in my swim pretty much all of Saturday. My other two rods I felt I didn't do too much right with which means that over the next few days I'll think about the problems and come away a better angler than before I went, so all in all a new PB/Fantastic Tench, I think I learnt more than I have in the previous two trips to Wingham combined and had a chance to catchup with all the great people there. Thanks to Steve for letting me fish again and helping me out with the swim, the bailiffs for lifts and advice and Peggy for a great BBQ as usual :-). I'd also like to say another big thanks to Steve because without him lending me a pair of scales (I'd forgotten mine)!! They helped make the trip much more special :-). The fishing looked like it was starting to pick up a bit when I left, I think there might be a few more tench caught between now and tonight but if the rain comes in tonight as expected then I think that might be it for the fishin. I'll look forward to the updates and keep my fingers crossed for everyone (especially any Wingham first timers). Steve, could you email me the pictures of the tench please? If you want mine I can send them to you as well, if you don't have my email address then PM me. Feel free to post the pictures of the tench also, I think your pictures came out better than mine. I've ordered 3 pots of lobs and I'm planning on taking 4-6 pints of maggots. It was going to be 4 but as the weather is going to be that great I'm thinking it's better to take more maggots and use them for any tench fishing rather than the boilie approach I was going to use.

Thanks Dales, my plan was to find 3 different depths hopefully to find the depth they are happy to feed at during different times of the day. I am hoping to get a visit from Steve early Saturday while I'm looking for spots :-)

I've found in past years that the Perch seem slightly happier to feed during these periods when the weather isn't at it's best, would the Wingham members agree with this us not?

As far as groundbait for predators working, I vaguely remember Steve B telling a story about catching Perch every cast and then running out of a groundbait they were using so switching to Expo thinking Perch would like it but as soon as they put that in then they caught no more Perch.... although not conclusive it's certainly interesting and suggests that groundbaiting might affect Perch. I'm sure Steve can correct me if my memory is flawed.

What would people recommend for Perch? My plan is to fish lob worms and feed a horrible mixture of red maggots, chopped worms, predator plus, tuna fish and browncrumb (the ground bait is just to soak up the liquid from the chopped worms and predator plus and allow me to get it out into the swim) does this seem ok? Is the tuna fish going to help or not because it is not a freshwater fish?

I'm fishing with perch in mind..... although I went to the tackle shop at the weekend and I ended up buying a load of stuff suitable to tench fishing! I'm still hoping to fish for Perch but if there is a good tench area in the swim I will probably fish that as well :-)

Perhaps also a zig rig?

Do we all the old threads from pre 2012 fishins or were they lost in the forum move? I love reading them and would hapily read through them again to remind myself of the past years.

I have 4 x 2.75lb Nash Hooligun Carp Rods in case anyone on the carp lake needs to borrow anything, I'm sure you have what you need though.

I'm not sure if Steve has sorted any bank sticks out already but If possible I would like to borrow 3 pairs of long bank sticks...... I'd also like to borrow some fishing talent, I'll return it intact at the end of the weekend ;-).

If you are on the carp lake are you going to be fishing for eels? ;-)

I have to agree with Anderoo, I use some of there stuff. It generally does what it is supposed to do and does it well. I'm not sure there is actually a need for it all but some of it is very useful. There underwater dvds I think are really interesting. I do understand your point about kids not knowing any different (also anyone new to fishing). But I don't think this is any different to a lot of industries most companies make what sells not just what is needed, although it maybe isn't what is right it is normal.

A quick question for anyone who has done more perch fishing than me. Previously when targetting perch at Wingham I have fished a normal running rig with a lob worm on a number 6 hook tipped with a fake red maggot to keep the worm on and a small PVA bag of maggots to add attraction and help stop everything tangling. For indication of basically set the bobbin almost touching the floor (a running rig shouldn't give a drop back bite) but not touching the floor so I avoid a change in tension, I fished with a baitrunner on it's most sensitive setting. Can anyone suggest any changes to this? Edit - I'm if I get a spot and get into a perch swim that I wno't be fishing beyond 30metres but if I did would you switch from a running rig to a maggot feeder with red maggots on the hook?

I have my questionnaire ready to be returned to Steve :-). For the last few years I have been saying I would concentrate on Perch and try and ignore the tench everytime but this year I am going loaded up with Lobworms and Maggots and going all out for Perch (and I'll probably catch a load of Pike and Eels!!) I was planning on fishing mostly worms over chopped worms and maggots. I'm thinking about ordering 3 pots of lob worms, will this be too many? Last year I half fished for Perch and went through 1.5 pots. Getting excited now :-)
