    Slack lines

I'm sure more experienced anglers will have more valid opinions but I agree with everything you said. When I read about slack lines I assumed they were only for running rigs so which ever way the fish runs they will pull line (assuming the weight is heavy enough for the distance you are fishing). But then I read people were using them with bolt rigs as well. I always assumed this was because they used slack lines on the Korda underwater filming shows with bolt rigs, this was fine for them because they can see when a fish is hooked but without the camera it seems bad. Also how much does it improve your catch ratio with slack lines? Fish are used to bumping into weed twigs in the water all the time surely? I also like to know if my lead has been moved or if I'm getting line bites/pickups I know my rig is crap and I need to rethink it, with a slack line you are getting no information what so ever. I would prefer to risk spooking the odd fish (I'm not convinced this happens and I doubt fish feeding properly would care about the line) to get some information about what is happening.
  2. I voted for Coarse but that was before catfish got added... +1 for catfish from me :-)
  3. I would love to give Catfish fishing a try.... thought about giving it a go this year but at the moment haven't got a clue where to start :-)

    PBs

I've had a fairly good year considering I haven't fished as much as I would have liked but a few PBs. Tench - 8lb 9oz Carp - 35lb 11oz Eel - 5lb 7oz I wasn't going to weigh the eel when I first saw it in the net but decided it might just beat my previous PB of 4lb 8oz, glad I did now :-). Already thinking about wahat I'm going to do next season, I have been thinking about trying to catch a 2lb roach for a while so I might actually give it a go, or try and find some Barbel near Cambridge.
  5. Hiya, I've finally been convinced to go on holiday (I hate taking time off work) and we're going to Marmaris in Turkey and I was wondering if anyone has been to this area and if they have any knowledge or tips about local fishing? I'm guessing it is mostly sea fishing and I have done some searches on google but there is nothing better than tips from people I trust :-) Thanks for any tips or advice :-)
  6. I'm still hoping to come along and possily fish for Pike//Zander. I've lived in Cambridge for over 2 years now and feel I really should be taking advantage of the predator fishing in the fens more.
  7. I would guess your line is damaged somehow. What type of line it is? Mono, Braid, Flurocarbon? How old is it? Where is the line breaking, at the knot or in the middle of the line? Are you using a lighter hook link? I would also run you fingers up and down at least the last few meters everytime you use it to check for damage andcut off any line which is damaged.
  8. I learnt to fish with an short rod made from an old tank aerial (I'm not that old though!). It was made by my grandad for my dad to learn to fish with probably sometime in the 60's maybe. I think I used a very old mitchell reel with it which was an old reel of my dads :-)
  9. Didn't Issac Walton write in his book that they were horrible???
  10. Considering you fish Wingham I would have thought Bream might have made it on to the survey options!!! ;-)
  11. The picture on the left looks like it has a mouth pointing downwards in the picture? Is this correct? If so cold some of them been Bream/Roach hybrids which might explain the lack of a fight?
  12. Something like this is what Budgie reccomended to me and it seems to work well once you get used to using it. It should be the same style as the one used in the video Budgie posted. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIAMOND-SHARPENE...=item3efc6d80e8
  13. I'd also like to say I hope Andrew doesn't stop posting, his posts are always great and interesting to read..... plus I get to see pictures of massive fish which makes me feel like a crap angler :-). The same goes to you Rich, hopefully you'll post more often again at some point :-)
  14. Is there any chance you would be able to give some of us a rough idea of what tackle we need if we are fishing for Zander and Pike, most of my pike fishing has been done with float fishing but assuming I fish for Zander/Pike by ledgering what would sort of tackle would you use?
  15. Sounds great to me! I will go pending working out how I'm going to get there!
  16. I would be up for this although I've never driven abroad and don't really fancy it so if I'm able to share a car/van with someone who is willing to drive than I would love to go. What sort of tackle would we need? My heaviest rods are 2.75lb carp rods which I would have thought would be calpable of dealing with most of the stuff I might catch but some of the bigger stuff might be a different issue, any thoughts?
  17. Is anyone likely to be going who would be willing to help out with predator fishing? I have fished for Pike and handled them before but I've never fished for Zander before and would not be sure or where to cast, how to fish etc. I would love to try for a Zander and maybe have some fun with some Pike.
  18. I would be interested, always wanted to fish in France for carp/cats and was thinking about it anyway.
  19. Hi, I would possibly be interested, I've never caught a Zander and I'm getting bored fishing for carp most fishing trips so something different would be fun. Errrm
  20. I've just started thinking about using a chod rig on a very weedy lake I'm fishing, if you are fishing the top bead quite high to make sure that the popup doesn't get pulled into the weed what sort of bites do you get? Is it self hooking? We can't use leadcore on the lake I fish so it would need to be a.... I think it's called a naked chod i.e. no leadcore. Or am i missing the point that the top bead should always be set just above the weed? Any help you can give me would be great.
  21. How do you bait up? Balls, spod, feeder, boat? I can't imagine how long it would take to get that lot in or how much noise it would cause. I've never fished for large shoals of bream though so I've never had the need to use that much bait :-)
  22. Hi, A bit of a long shot but I was wondering if anyone has any Nash Hooligun XS rods they are willing to sell? If you do can you let me know the how much you would like for them and their condition please. Cheers
  23. Thanks for the replace Budgie, if it was a bit stronger I would have given it a go. :-)
  24. Is the action of the rod more designed for catching silvers or carp on a commercial? I've got a match/float rod which I use when float fishing but it struggles if I'm fishing with my dad at his caravan for carp.... and it's got stupid sliding ring reel seat so the reel keeps falling off mid fight!
