  1. Hello guys and gals. Been a long time posting due to it being a long time since getting the rods wet. Ive just spent 4 days at a Lakeside fishing lodge with my Uncle who is in a wheelchair and had a great few days fishing. Everything was on one level and so I could wheel him from lounge to veranda to start the days fishing. I am calling on the collective mind of the forum to suggest any other Fishing Lodges that allow you to fish from a veranda or a platform directly infront of the lodge to make it easier for a wheelchair angler. I am not after a monster carp lake, infact it wouldn't bother me if it was everything but carp hahaha. but your suggestions would be most welcome. I am Midlands based but we travelled to Lincolnshire for this trip. Thanks in advance John
  2. Could it not be a reference to the German Uboats that used to threaten travling up our rivers? John
  3. Hi guys How is Walcott lake fishing at the moment. My Uncle and dad fished there about 2 Months back and blanked, you could see the bottom about 50yds out but Im hoping somebody out there has bagged up at this once beautiful venue? John
  4. Congratulations tigger in my experience the wifes first response is "have'nt you already got A reel" John
  5. Never will you make me talk, this is even more secret than that secret lake in that secret dvd called the secret lake that you can only by in a secret shop in a little secret village just west of that secret road. psssst read your pm John
  6. Now you havent understood what I have said. These kids are fishing a 2 mile stretch of tributery brook that isnt touched by any club match's or huge days of crowded fishing. this is a 2 - 3ft deep 8ft wide brook that realistically would go un-noticed if the farmer didnt cut the vegitation back twice a year. If they were fishing on the Severn taking up places of paying anglers then I agree throw the book at them but on this little brook the are hurting no one John
  7. There is a local brook by my house that is'nt run by any organisation (as far as I know) and has never seen a balif in its life, its about a 2 mile stretch and is full of wonderful fighting chubb. I have fished it since my dear Mum let me out of the house alone and Im 26 now with kids. I have vowed never to fish this brook during close season and have never ever been down ther without a rod license but I always seem to hold my tonuge when I see the local scum and riff raff off the estate taking time out from smashing phone boxes and robbing grannies to enjoy a spot of fishing. They turn into different people by the bank and will always engage in conversation. I spoke to 2 young lads the other night while i was walking my *WELL BEHAVED, PISCATORIAL TOLERENT*, dogs . When I asked "Had any luck" they replied "We have had some greyling" I was sceptical and didnt really believe them as in all my years I had never seen the good lady down there but one of the youths produced a new "How To Fish" pocket book from his bag and said " We are sure it was one of these with the big fin" and fair play to the lads it seemed they had caught them previously and did not know the identification of the fish, so they went and bought a book (probably with drug money ). Anyway I ramble on, my point is I would prefer to see these kids fishing (even if illegally) than drinking and other intoxicating hobbies on the streets. If you guys dont agree with me I walk the brook every night and will be happy to dispense justice to any young offender John
  8. Its bloody amazing to listen to people who know NOTHING!! about our sport trying to talk about it picking up on various words they have used and associations from telly programs. And what kind of fisherman would throw stones at a pike eating a duck I would be in amazement at there being such a fish in the water rather than throwing stones. Oh well kept me amused. John
  9. Sorry to drag up old posts but I have never read this story and what a story it is, that is something to pass down forever and to have such a wonderfull account and picture its excellent. John
  10. Thats a Strap Conger and your on the cliffs by the seaside I can tell by the flowers honest That is one hell of an eel, you dont mind them destroying your terminal tack when they look like that John
  11. Ok So I set my box up with a Large roller directly to my right and then a rest out infront of me and do I need anything behind me. Sorry for all the questions I have just been invited to a corporate day out at work and its a fishing day, where they have a match with presentation and all that and everyone in my company knows I am a massive fisherman but I have never ever fished a match in my life and dont want to let my lack of match ettiquette/knowledge my downfall =P John
  12. Have'nt Severn Trent just been fined for fudging consumer information aswell, how can we expect them to monitor our beloved waterways. John
  13. LOLOLOLOL ok ok before anyone trys this your house will probably be fitted with a RCD/RCBO protected Consumer unit and thus will trip your house out as soon as you connect it up, if however your house is protected by the old rewirable fuses that you stick a nail accros then make sure you dont put your hands out if you fall over on the wet grass
  14. I envy you guys who can find the beloved Tinca Tinca as all the lakes I have fished in the past 2 years seem brimming with nothing but carp and the odd roach. Anyone got any ideas of good Tench/Bream waters around Shropshire?
  15. Well the carp I am holding in my Avatar was caught 1 rod length down the bank but took about 20 casts to get the line lying right and I wondered if the pole would have handled a 10lber. I set my elastic so it is slightly over length, then lose that in the not of the conector. Is there a generic pole setup for banksticks and rollers and such because I also feel I do not do that correctly? John
  16. I have found BAKERS do a Meaty Chunks range which are soft and hookable, they only have a 60minute life expenctancy in the water but I have had success on them John
  17. i have just read through this topic and I cant believe no one has mentioned "Worm Charming" this is by far the most fun especially with the kids Dad in the garden with a fork in the ground waggling it for dear life while the rest of the family wait for the little blighters to pop out ooooh hours of fun
  18. See the more I post on this forum the more I can see where I am goin wrong. I am indeed using light hooklinks all the time as i wasnt aware of what line 12 elastic could take. I will try the setup you have suggested on my next trip as my basic catches are carp varying from 4lb to 10lb (if I am lucky) but I have seen the larger fish mov in very close but have always been to worried to drop a pole after them and instead end up setting up a carp rod. One other thing and I am hijacking my own thread for this, What about using floating baits with a pole or am i asking for trouble? At one of the lakes I fish at the carp readily take free offering from the surface well within pole range but seem to be line shy would a pole find results. Thankyou John
  19. "Hmmm I love the site of Tench Bubbbles in the morning" Apocotench Now. Walcot Lake on the BAA there used to be Tench Bubbles on the Tench Bubbles!
  20. A hollow in the 6-8 range? i take it thats elastic, is that not too thin? I was considering putting a 16 on my margin kit is that to strong?
  21. Isnt a size 6 elastic too small? Is the "pulla Bung" that thing that when you break your pole down to last sections you can basically hand line the elastic? I have also read on the forums about Double Bungs how do these work?
  22. After the success of my last question I am now going to seek the advice of the masters again. When I pole fish I use a Leeda Assasin II 12.5M pole that came with a match top 3 a power top 2 and a margin kit. I only ever use the power top 2 and currently have a No. 12 Elastic in it, I havent yet used the match top 3 and I havent really got an idea about the margin because surely the power section does the same? Main question is when I use the 12 elastic i tend to lose loads of fish or the hook never actually sets but I think they may only be skimmers or small carp how do I stop this without stepping down elastyic size because I am worried a big Mudpig might scream off with a No.6 elastic. Thanks John
  23. If I am not mistaken Thats a little fella
  24. Would it be wrong in thinking that it may be Gun Shot causeing the lead poisening here obviously the wound heals but the lead remains and to be such a small number of birds its worth considering. For Example, and I know it is perfectly illegal to shoot a Swan however, If a bird is shot at with the incorrect shot such as a number 6 or 7 mainly used for pheasents and pigeons then while in flight you are not going to kill a bird but Pellets will hit such a large target and stay lodged in for long periods of time. Any bird actually killed by a mistaken shot instantly is not going to be found as I am sure a shooter would never want to own up to killing a Swan. It is the same if you are using the Legal Bismeth or Steel shot used for Foul, these obviously when swallowed are not going to kill a Swan but if one hits they are. All I am doing is adding another angle to this debate as I am sure Anglers get pointed out to much for such incidents.
  25. Thanks CT, its funny really because I fish with my father and Uncle and they are both set in there ways with rod and line and will never change so really I have never actually had anyone to teach me how to use it, I have just bought it and obviously watched videos for the basics but I never seem to be set-up like those guys you see on Fish-o-mania with about 4 top sections all laid out alongside and one section for a pot I just seem to use My power top 2 section all the time and never use a pot. Every time I hooked a fish I would play it like a rod and reel oh god no wonder they use to tear across the like and all i could do was hold on and hope. I could visualise everything you were saying and cringing at how bad I have been doing it, I must ensure my setup around my box is correct from now on and mabybe invest in a few pole rolers or pole rests as at the moment i have just a "V" roller and normal rod rest tops. Its nice to speak to guys with the same and even more passion for this sport as I and I do hope for your sake I never meet you or else I would probably talk you to death as once i start talking about fishing I cant stop
