Well the plan today is to finish work at half 12 and head off to Charity Farm at Wrightington for an afternoon to early evening session. I have to admit I was a bit miffed with the rain this morning but its stopped now so hopefully it will hold off for the day now

Will get back on here tonight and let you all know how it goes.

Right well the session went ok. Fished pool 1 on waggler fished corn and managed to catch a small bag of roach between 8 and 12 oz. Not as good as Charity can be but it beat sitting at home. Tried prawns as they are a noted bait but whenever I put one on the hook little perch snaffled the lot, biggest persch was about 2oz taken on a prawn half its size! Greedey Buggers

The Mrs is working odd shifts for a couple of weeks now so my time will be restricted but I'm hoping to have a try at an open match at Orrell resevoirs some point in the next couple of weeks. A couple of practice sessions would be required first I think

A friend took me to a little fishery today and I must say I was quite pleased with it. Although the day started off slow it did pick up towards late morning at which point I was getting a fish a chuck on pole fished corn at 13metres to an island in about 18 inches of water.

I managed to get quite a range of species to, roach, bream, tench, chub, golden tench, golden orfe and ghost carp. The golden orfe was actually a PB for me, I didn't weigh it but estimate it at around 2lb which is much bigger than my previous best of about 12oz.

Not bad for a day out, the highlight though was not any of the fish I caught but watching my mate fall into the lake put a smile on my face lasted the whole day!

As the title may suggest, I've managed to get a session at Bradshaws today with my mate Mark and his son, Danny. Anyways we decided to fish on Lodge 4 which is the main match lake at the venue. First impressions seemed ok but as the day went on the lodge became a bit crowded for my liking, not to get deterred by this we carried on with session. I was getting a few roach and bream on my pole line with 1 carp of about 3lb as well, the carp had a bit of a deformed mouth which is a shame to see, Mark was catching carp and bream on the tip with his biggest being about 5lb- most of which had deformed mouths as well. Danny had a few roach but nothing special.

What became apparent was the venue was not living up to the reputation it seemed to have and I was a bit disappointed at the condition of the fish, overall it was a fair way to travel for it to be worthwhile going again so i'll be looking a bit more local for my next session and hopefully have better results but for the first session for a while it dusted off a few cobwebs ready for next time.

    Summary:

    Weather - overcast/clear
    Wind - light
Catch - few bream and roach, 1 carp - nothing of note
Methods - pole on bottom, corn and pellet

Still not wet a line yet which is getting most distressing, to many other things getting in the way.

On a plus note I did manage to get an hour out this morning and went to look at a couple of waters on the Wigan and District Anglers Association card, Ince park and Mellings number one. Mellings was quite a surprise to be honest because it actually looks quite fishy - I'm going to have a few sessions down there I think but whether or not it will produce the goods is another matter. Ince park lake is a venue I used to visit frequently as a kid but looking at it now it seems a bit overgrown and neglected which is a surprise with it being in a public park, I may give it a try though for nostalgia reasons but I don't think I'll expect much from it. I've also been trying to find a water called the Trenchy, thgis is on the clubs books but is not in the map book, so i'm a bit lost.

Anyway, if any Wigan DAA members read this and can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Going to sign off now because I've rambled on enough. Hoping to get the rods out soon enough.

Right then, I've never done a blog like this before so i'll probably bugger something up.

I am going to use this as a diary of my fishing exploits this year I think, i've never really recorded any details about my fishing so it may be fun to see how I get on.

If I can get my thick old brain to figure out how to put pictures up then I'll do so if I have any of note.

At the minute I've a lot of work on in the house so I've only got one trip planned and thats to Bradshaw fisheries in Bolton at the end of next week. Weather and time permitting I may try sneak an evening or afternoon session in beforehand though.

Thats it for now, I'll be back next time I go fishing.

EDIT: See, I've only tried it the once and I keep getting loads of error messages, I can see this being hard work!
