  1. Woops, don't know what happened there. Anyway, it's 2 x Harrison Interceptors in 1lb 10oz T.C. xcellent condition is a must. Anyone?
  2. Im off to Linear fisheries in Oxford next week,so am in the market for some bait. What I need is casters, maybe 10 pints, plus a few pints of maggots. I hasten to add that this will be for 5 of us.Im informed that Didcot Angling Centre isn't too far away from it,so rather than transport all the bait from Ireland,it would be better getting it locally.Anybody use Didcot Angling? and are they as close as I've heard they are. Will they take an order for bait by phone...Cheers Des. maggots

How about 2-3 crushed up Weetabix, cleans up your maggots superbly, soaks up all that ammonia and turns your maggots nice and plump.Alternatively try a tad of custard powder as well, cleans the maggots and flavours them as well..Mmmmmmm lurvly!
  9. Thought you would all like to know that The Shannon Fisheries Board have introduced a 35 Euro Permit if you want to fish any of their "Managed" Waters".Irish anglers are boycotting these waters as a protest. I think it's a scam and a con, rip off, etc etc. They'll use this money to pay for gill netting as their budget has been cut really badly. Do us all a favour and ban them from advertising/having a link on this site...
  10. Woodz, any idea where I can get it, online if poss as my local shop doesn't stock it anymore.Cheers Des!
  11. Did Drennan Micro Braid, not replace the Drennan Carp Silk? .I bought 9 spools of the Carp Silk because it was going cheap and to be honest, there's nothing like it!(Silkworm/ Merlin comes quite close though). [ 31. March 2003, 03:37 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  12. I would hazzard a guess, and maybe put a few quid on it,that the Pike in question came from Ireland. More likely to be from the North. You see we have what is classed as "Commercial Fishermen" who lay longlines, and nets for species like Perch,Roach, so they will inevetably pick up Pike,   . We also have the poachers, who ply's his vile trade to the expense of us anglers. It was reported few years ago of one SCUMBAG who had 1 fish of over 50lb (yes you read it right 50lb)and one of 48lb odds caught in his net. When he went to sell them to his processor,he was told that they were too big to be eaten,so what did he do?...Cut them up and dumped them into the local canal. This is always happening over here, and to be honest ,no one in power gives a f**k( sorry but I get mad when the subject of poaching crops up).The way it is viewed over here,is if it ain't a game fish then it is just pig food...
  13. Alan,I'm not a Jock, but from Ireland. Yeah,I do watch a bit of "Rugger" especialy when the Oirish are playing.Triple Crown for us this year i think? P.S. The English wil be too strong for the Scots, but for the Irish?,no chance!!!! lol [ 20. March 2003, 11:02 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  14. Now that Celtic have beaten Blackburn and now Liverpool( Hee Hee Hee) is it not now time for the BIG 2 in Glasgow to be allowed into the Premiership?.I can't see why not, apart from the English F.A not wanting a Scottish team to win the League.........?
  15. It's for fastening your rod to the brolly for when you are baiting your hook,or putting on a new hooklength etc etc.......
  16. A wee tale of woe on the eve of St Patricks Day. Not having been out fishing in 3 weeks, the old craving had well and truly set in,so it was off to the "local" lough for a spot of piking. It was an ideal time to try out the new "ali" boat(12ft Quicksilver). Anyway, 300yds down the road, the bracket I had made to hold the boat to the trailer, snapped and there in the rear view mirror, was the bow of the boat sticking proudly in the air.I had to cut ome of the anchor rope to tie her to the trailer so I could get on,and get fishing. On to the motorway and had to stop again,to tighten the ropes as it was threatining to come off alltogether.Only the strap/ratchet was holding her at the time.. Anyway, arriving an hour late, and out in the water,we decided to fish our usual small bay first,on the way,BANG!!!!,we hit a rock, and damaged the prop on a practically new engine,"Feck it",I said......Several fish later, and YES, my first double figure Pike on a lure, all 11lb 3 oz of it!!!! I looked round for one of the berkley rod rests I have, only to discover that one of them had gone overboard!!!!!!!!! "Feck it" again I said..20 mins later, the float dips, then quivers and away it goes like a speedboat, a quick strike sees The Piker battling with what is obviously a nice fish.10 mins or so later, she's beaten and on top of the water just ready to be netted.Disaster!!!!!!! Don't know how it happened but the crosslok swivel I had been using just bent, like it was made from tin and off she swam.I had the fish half in/half out of the net and she was the right side of 25lb.Pass the Kleenex please, "Feck it again and again",I said..Days fishing over, and it was back on the trailer for the boat.2 mins out of the carpark, and the lead fronm the trailer board disintegrates into about 10 bits, leaving me to drive home with no lights/indicators on the boat. What a day I had,I hope never to have one like it again.Don't you just love this fishing lark! Arrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ( AND CELTIC WERE BEAT BY RANGERS.....AH NO!,WHAT's THE WORLD COMMING TO? [ 16. March 2003, 09:25 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  17. And you wont be dissapointed when you get it either.Although i haven't used it yet,i have given it a thorough going over(The Piker Test) and it does look as if it will take some abuse.Material and stitching is first class.Zips look good too,and they have fish shape zip pullers( for all you tackle tarts ,me included). If I did have one criticism,it would be that the groundsheet is a bit, well, thin.but it will do the job,of keeping out the damp, and the crawlies .......
  18. I got one from http://www.specialist-tackle.co.uk You can order it on-line too.... I did enquire about one from J&K Tackle, but they told me that they don't post tackle outside the U.K. mainland??????????????? THEIR LOSS!!!!!! Bring on the Liverpool! [ 12. 19. 4 weeks and 1 day, thats how long I'm off the smokes.By God it's tough. But when No Smoking Day day comes around ," GO FOR IT"... Am in the process of buying myself a new Brolly/bivvy combo as a reward.
  20. I've been looking all night for an on-line stockist, but none have the brolly on their site. Any-one any ideas  .Have mailed a few to see if they have one. Will post with any results....
  21. A quicker way of producing a Medusa rig is to do as follows.Tie on a size 14/16 hook to the hair instead of a loop. Then you can cram on as many maggots as possible to the small hook, along with some slivers of red rig foam so that the bait is popped up/critically balanced. You can also forget about the foam and fish it hard on the bottom. It saves all that gluing, which can ne a real pain. I,ve had some really nice Tench on this rig,and it definately works.
  22. Irish it was Peter, NOT Welsh!!!!!!!
