  1. Some of that stuffs ok but the rest can't be at all good for the fish.
  2. I've caught quite a few Ruffes on the broads
  3. As someone that recently came back to fishing after about 10 years I heartily reccomend simple float fishing. When I first came back to fishing that is what I did, and I caught some nice fish, but I was over eager in my new hobby and wanted to try everything. For months I was experimenting with heavier rods and reels, weird baits for carp, allsorts. After a months of blanking a lot and feeling confused and esasperated with all the different methods I was fed up and just took my old light simple rod and reel out with some maggots and float fished again. I didn't cast right out, just sat dead still and quiet and fished under a tree in the margins. Best days fishing i've ever had, 6 decent tench and 7 nice bream ( plus tiddlers). I'm just saying keep it simple to start otherwise you'll ruin your enjoyment and put yourself off.
  4. This site actually made me pick up my rods again. I fancied reading a bit about angling. So I typed in anging in google and clicked on this site. Reading a few posts I had to pick up my rods again since childhood. I've been logging in just about everyday since for help. Cheers to you all
  5. I can't wait either. I'm going to be joining this river angling club - http://www.bctac.co.uk/ Apparently John Wilson used to be a member
  6. According to the Angling times there may be 3rd series. It beats the reality shows
  7. Nice tench. I love fishing for them, really challenging and they scrap a bit too
  8. I honestly can't see anything wrong with any replies. Surely forums are meant to be places of discussion. The worst way to act would to be defensive like the other forum. Defensive of what exactly? We don't have anything to hide about our hobby so why react that way? They are the ones shooting themselves in the foot.
  9. ''Why do fish always pull in the opposite direction to your rod after being hooked? Surely if it felt pain it would sometimes move towards the pull to reduce pain like a warm bloodied animal usually does??'' I agree with everything other than this. Although, I still believe fish don't feel pain. The reason I don't agree with that above quote is because of my silly dog who forever has to lay behind my pc chair. My computer chair is on wheels and on more than one occasion i have pushed back and rolled over her tail, trapping her hair by mistake. Now, instead of standing still when she feels the pain, she pulls like hell to get away making it ten times worse. Although she does feel pain, she isn't quite intelligent enough to stand still. I realise that is very anti my beliefs and i'm in know way suggesting that is what fish are doing. I just thought i'd mention a fair point
  10. Me and my family went on a boat trip during the easter break and there was a female with newly hatched ducklings nesting right outside the ticket office under a tree. Apparently she nests there every year because the people scare off natural predtors. She actually feels safer around people. The bloke who manages the yard had a really expensive camera set up to take pictures automatically at set intervals to record their progress. Right cool.
  11. Controversial and a little ignorant I know but I can't see any reason to keep evil like that on this earth. People like that can't reform, and to be honest they don't deserve the chance. Cut them off the earth like cancer from a body. You csn't blame music or games, if that were the case all kids and young adults would be sociopathic killers. Including me. I believe these 'people' are a result of a family tree who for generations haven't worked due to the nanny state. They have lost touch with what society expects of them, their morals and social behavior have degraded gradually. each generation de-evolves unto they think like animals.
  12. I've bought a couple of Improve your coarse fishing magazines. They are ok but there are better mags out there. Plus I get sick of the sight of Matt Hayes smug toothy grin on every other mag, looking like the mitchelin man because he is wearing every layer of his TF gear range.
  13. Is it just me or have cooking shows and celebrity chefs been using a lot of elvers recently?
  14. Exactly. I only have a problem with other anglers when they interfere with my methods.
  15. I have never caught a carp in my 20 years of fishing on and off. I mainly target Bream and Tench in the summer and Roach in the winter and i'm currently learning about pike to add that to my winter pursuit as well. The carp phenomenon wouldn't bother me at all if it wasn't for the fact that it violates my style of fishing. When I can't get to a river due to lack of transport I cycle to a local fisheries that has good heads of Bream and Tench. There are 3 pools and I avoid the ones with massive carp. I'm sat minding my own buisness when you get thick head bailiffs ridiculing your lighter tackle every 5 minutes and telling you that you should be using 15lb line and 3lb test curve rods etc. And thats before the carpers start having a go. Idiots. I'm tempted to go around telling them 'ooooh you'll never catch a roach on that barbaric gear, you want to be on 2lb hook length'. I don't though, because I know how to mind my own facking buisness.
  16. Excellent i'll take a look
  17. I can't remember ever tasting one but I know how they taste. Just one of those things. Same with earwax
  18. Oh aye. Just realised. Rubber bands do have a foul taste though
  19. Hehe. Don't fish mind the strong taste and scent of rubber?
  20. I read the article. Really good stuff. Couldn't you use a piece of rubber band to keep the worm on a barbless hook as well?
  21. Can anyone recommend a decent wormery for fishing?
  22. Ta for the advise. I have fished it during summer and there was plenty of small roach and perch. The pond is also quite shallow, I don't think it gets any deeper than 4 foot. Loads of weed and lily patches and it is never fished by the looks of it. There is a well managed carp fisheries just up the road from it so I think everyone goes there. THere is also a stream that runs adjacent and during the winter it flooded into the pond. I'd be happy to catch a perch of a 1LB to be honest
