  1. watatoad has answered everything as I would have said it and others. there should be no need to flick the pin if your tackle is set up correctly and you follow the pointers that has been said in the above post. Good post watatoad, well answered
  2. Rob, after you have taken the screw off, apply some pressure to the spool with your hands and pull & it will slide off, mine was quite tight to start with then it slid off no problem you will have the shroud, the spool & the bearings when it comes off, I have done a Step by step for a friend with pictures as he is a novice, if you want send me your email & I will send it to you? George
  3. well myself and Gary (bbamboo) were out on the tees today and I put my reel through its paces, Gary's has not turned up as yet, but both of us were impressed by how it handles and the overall construction and performance of it. It puts a lot more expensive centrepins I own to shame in some places, not many negative points with it at all and for £36 definately worth every penny. I gave it a good old going with 51 Grayling and a chub with endless fish bumped off. See my blog for full details, as Im not writing it all out again!...lol George's Blog
  4. Ive heard of another one in exactly same predicament as yours and all it was required was the bearings had not been lubricated properly, unscrew the front screw and take the spool off to reveal the bearings, give them an oil and try it again, he did and now spins over 1minute 45 secs. Sorted! Reliable source informs me that they are currently out of stock with the pins awaiting more.
  5. I only wish I had shares in Dragoncarp pins at the moment as Id have made a fortune I now know of over 40 anglers who have took my advice....No refunds if you dont like it & Im nothing to do with dragoncarp either I just like a good bargain from time to time..lol
  6. Watatoad Same line I use with all my centrepin trotting fishing mate nothing else but berkley fused crystal fireline, I wouldnt change back to mono since I got recommended it by another pin user and it hasnt faulted me yet. Best Regards George
  7. I received my £30 reel from dragoncarp within 36 hours of ordering it, & to be 100% truthful the only thing I can fault it on at the moment is the ratchet lever, as it requires to be rotated fully to put it on or turn it off, thats it but for £30 Im not bothered about a thing like that. The only difference from the TF X pin, The ikonix and the Dragongear is a signature...oh and the price £99.99 as TF Gear....£60 as Ikonix and £30 as Dragoncarp dragoncarp Ive had it in pieces already... always like to check these things out and its well made and quite robust, the handles are wooden and it overall quite a pleasing reel. will be using it this weekend for a change away from the speedia's & rapidex's so will let you know how it fishes.
  8. There is only 3 family members who know the full ingredients of Irn bru its a well known advertised secret in scotland. Father to daughter and a copy in a safe thats it. Never done me any harm & I was bottle fed the stuff...apart from the ginger hair and freckles Im now coming out with....lol
  9. My honest opinion when people ask these sort of questions is, the reel is only as good as the guy who uses it, and knows what to do with it! Ive never been that way inclined to measure distances etc, If I need to fish a run or a particular stretch, I manouvre myself till I can comfortably achieve the cast, If your doing demos etc then I can see the point but for normal everyday fishing distance achievement is a personal thing and its what everyone is comfortable with within their own capablities.
  10. lol, thanks for the regards.....you know what my answer will be to the other remark...do as Im doing get stuck in yourselves..lol
  11. You are correct in what you say..I never used anything else but morrells.
  12. Pipers why didnt you say that then...lol, there you go buddy
  13. Hi Colin, Yes mate am recovering well thanks for asking had a day out on the tees today with my cane rod building mate Bbamboo off the forum and very enjoyable it was too A lot of people use yacht varnish for their floats & rods but I went away from this years ago and I do all my kit in 10% sheen lacquer and it gives a good coat but is more forgiving if things go wrong than varnish as its waterbournes its easily wiped off with an old cloth at time of applying so thats one advantage over varnish. This is my 1st cane rod refurb so will have to see what it stands up to over the test of time but if its as good as the floats then no probs. Ive just been onto morrells website and there is a branch in North London: Morrells London Give them a call and see what they have in stock. I dont have a link to a whipping thread as such as Its something Ive had to learn to do but this website has got handy hints if it helps you any. H&H Tips This is the company that Im using to buy the new rod rings from. Hope all goes well colin and I look forward to seeing yourself doing what Im currently doing and refurbing some of those old rods. Reagrds George
  14. Thing is rusty Im killing time at the moment as Ive not been to work in nearly 8 weeks due to my kidneys failing and have another 4 weeks of sitting in the house, there is only so much daytime tv you can stick..lol
  15. Got quite a few hours whipping on the butt section today with cramped fingers to go with, but Im really pleased with the results. Ive tried to keep the rod as close to the original colour with the green whippings and intermediate whippings. The pictures show the butt whippings with a single coat of lacquer to seal the whippings in place. There will now be a few weeks till I get the remaining rings sent from H&H.
  16. No mate its going back to its original state, I had a think on this one as I know the rings have a tendancy to slide but when I put my aerial on it gripped it well and didnt move, even after giving it a few quick strikes in the back garden it still remained still. Today starts the butt whipping...Not looking forward to this, will let you know how I get on
  17. Got started early again today to beat the boredom of another day in the house and managed to get the middle & top sections of the rod stripped of eyes, thread & old varnish. The female ferrule on the middle section was a bit loose so stripped that off , cleaned off the old glue and rebonded with araldite so that will be left alone to dry. The complete rod is now stripped down and sanded, now the fun of putting it back together begins. Got a phone call this afternoon from Hopkinsholloway where I have ordered new high bell rod rings they are currently not in stock so have 2 weeks to wait for them, so things will start to slow down until the new rings arrive, I can however get the butt ring on as that was perfectly good & serviceable when it came off.
  18. again cracking pictures always nice to see people's catches well done on some crackers
  19. Gary, All ferrules bar one was nice & tight to the cane & each other, that was the female butt ferrule, It was held in place with a small brass pin which I managed to tap in and slip off the ferrule, cleaned off the old glue sediments and reglued using araldite so it is drying, wont touch that till completely dry. where I plan to replace the small brass pin again, I have some lying around somewhere that would suit the job. Chesters, Rings are all pencil marked as I took photographs & measurements between each ring before starting so have all the information documented. I dont plan to use varnish to finish the rod as I went away from varnish years ago I much prefer Morrells severe use waterbourne lacquer. Its not oil based so easily applied with a finger or fine brush, its waterproof once dry and after 3 thin coats Id say the finish beats varnish. Ive been using it on my floats and around the house for years and its never peeled or cracked yet. Thanks guys always nice to get hints & tips from others, keeps your mind thinking ahead of whats to come. Today is stripping down the middle & tip section the same as the butt. Morrells
  20. I saw it too and had it bookmarked but like yourself resisted the urge...lol
  21. nice looking reels, prefer the black one out of the two but at that price who's moaning...I could be tempted...lol
  22. Well made a start today and got further than I thought. Managed to get the butt section stripped down completely, by removing the end cap and reel rings which then allowed me to get the cork handle scrubbed down and sanded which made a vast difference to the appearance. Also stripped off all the old threads and eyes and scrapped all the old varnish of the cane. Couldnt help but get a bit of steel wool and polish my brasses at the same time The red tape is protecting the name of the rod so I didnt sand that as well!
  23. Thanks Gary, stripped off the eyes and old threads this evening and will start to clean the cork & butt section tomorrow. Have ordered a new set of chrome high bells as the ones I took off were past there best. Regards George
  24. It could be the way I was trying to take the close up pics, Ive physically checked each section...with my glasses on I hasten to add and each section is straight. Even when the rod is together and you look along the length of it whilst rolling it again its straight
  25. Worms you have better eyes than me but your perfectly right, I had taken it as something else....now where did I leave my glasses so now we know its a mordex Ideal.
