  1. The other thing to remember is the time scale. Eggs transported by birds legs, weed trimmings etc may not be a sure fire or particularly quick or reliable way to colonise new waters but if you up the time scale to millennia, its definitely a feasible solution for areas not prone to flooding from existing watercourses. When you consider the first fishes (Ostracoderms or Armored Fishes) evolved around 500 million years ago, its a pathetically small time frame in the history of fish and an impressive display of how evolution can solve such problems. 2. Already a donor, I ride a motorbike... donor card always in my jacket. Give blood too... you never know when you'll want it back. Renrag
  3. I like the 'no contact for 3 laps' rule. It just makes me giggle. 516 (Gouldy, half red/white) ususally puts in a good appearance at the meets, was he in the top 3 again this year? The lag times are outrageous now, spoils it a bit, still, its a good afternoon/eve out. Thinking of going to the GY fireworks special, hoping for reliants or caravans again. Renrag
  4. Bring on the Pain! Nice one Elton, has it started raining yet and gotten REALLY dangerous? They got the Monster Truck this year, or they saving that for Guy Fawkes? Renrag
  5. 89 gpx750r, the ORIGINAL ninja lol. Mental 16" front wheel and will send you directly to jail, do not pass go, do not get £200. Thats the idea Steve, have seen loads on the net, the variety is mind boggling. In fact I'm boggling right now. Will PM him shortly. Thanks again guys, Renrag
  6. Thanks for that Larsagi, however the idea of the inflatable is really starting to appeal to me for storage and security reasons. I live in a small terrace with a tiny concrete yard. A hard dinghy would have to live outside and however securely I hang it from my bike port, some light fingered tw*t will try to nick it and probably damage my bike in the process (which has ground anchors and disc lock btw and isn't really worth nicking itself). An inflatable can live in the loft or my boot. I think the extra outlay is worth it as, in my case, the pros seemingly outweigh the cons by a considerable margin. Renrag
  7. Oh, suppose i'd best give a bit more info about myself and requirements. Me- 5'10", 11st, fit(ish), experienced on the water with boats/kitesurfing/surfing etc. Requirements- Tandem capability would be nice but not essential, to be used on slow to medium flowing rivers and broads. Would be nice if it could also be used on calm days on the sea for fun. Durability is everything. Don't mind secondhand. Think more of touring capability than outright speed. Good tracking ability another plus point. Thanks in advance, Renrag
  8. Had a look at a dinghy on eBay. 1) It wouldn't fit on my rack reliably, I have a saloon and I'm buggered if I'm changing my car to get a dinghy on it and obviously I could get extended racks but 2) Yeah it was fairly light but I tried to imagine trying to heave it on top of my car, alone, after a long days fishing, in the middle of winter with a puff of wind, as its getting or already dark... aint gonna happen, I'm fit (ish) but I can see me abandoning the boat after a few trips with the popular saying of 'f*** it, I'm knackered'. This then got me thinking about inflatables. I initially dismissed the idea thinking sharp pointy hooks+inflatable=the inevitable 'pssshhhhh.... glub glub glub'. But the dismissal of the hard dinghy made me do some research. Hmmm, bit tougher than I thought. Good-o. Then comes the practicality. Small(er), light(er) then experience rears its ugly face. Many moons ago, my Dad had a 6' one as a tender. On goes 2hp O/B... Oh my, they're not the most efficient hulls are they? No they're bloody not, cue overheated O/B @ 2kts and a long row back, air cooled I know but it was mid-winter!!! And the rowing, well, forget it. It'd have been easier to swim, bugger the temperature!!! Ok, can't really manhandle a hard dinghy, don't want to spend £20+ on petrol to move a glorified inner tube. Admittedly, I totally overlooked hard shell kayaks and canoes, not the most stable (for my liking) and still unwieldy lugging to and fro (yep, I'm outrageously lazy) and humping gurt big fings onto roof. Hi ho, hmmm, inflatable kayaks... So thats where I am atm. Any recommendations? Got iro £300 but can (reluctantly) pay a bit more for something of better quality/suitability. Renrag

Got iro £300 but can (reluctantly) pay a bit more for something of better quality/suitability. Renrag
  10. BSOD ERROR FAIL..... 'thunk' Should've turned it off and back on again... Renrag
  11. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FISHING-HUNTING-CAMP...=item45f58ca664 I think this may be the future... Renrag
  12. Get up to date guys, corks and hairpins is where its at!!! Just don't tell me girly... or my mum... Renrag
  13. That be the plan 'cept I'll be using plexiglass otherwise I WILL break it. Will be mounted outside the bucket too so water pressure doesn't force the seal but actually improves it. Technical stuff eh? 'Oive bin finkins boutit n stuff innit' Renrag
  14. Nah, thats what Traffic Cones are for, they're more than just novelty headwear dontcha know... Might make something similar coz I'm cheap. It won't work but why let a little thing like that stop me trying... Renrag
  15. HOLY CRAP!!! THAT MEANS YOU'RE 200+ YEARS YOUNG!!! One rod every 2 years + over 100 rods...= I knew you were a crinkly old toad but you must have the appearance of a crumpled up paper bag!!! Renrag
  16. Happy Birthday Old Man I may be 21 years your junior but I've already sussed the secret to growing old disgracefully, 'grow old, but don't grow up!' Damn knees are already creaky mind... Renrag
  17. Somewhat brisk in Lowestoft atm thats for sure. Gotta ride my motorbike back from work as of yet! Will take a bit of coaxing and gentle persuasion to be able to pee standing up when I get back Renrag
  18. Well, fingers crossed and I'll have it soon. Will need to find a suitable, free launching area too but shouldn't be too hard. Will also have to source a small O/B too coz I'm lazy. Will go for a petrol one, I can work on them and just prefer infernal combustion. Think the dinghy I'm looking at is rated for a 4hp but pretty sure I can get away with anything between 2-6(?) if I can't find one at the right price. 2-4hp ones seem to fetch a premium, get to 5/6hp and the interest seems to die off, hence, cheaper. Renrag (Andrew)
  19. Thanks for that JV44, the last one is on my watch list as is fairly local, bit heavy mind, I'm only ickle. Have possibly found something local, not going to elaborate further as I know there are 'takers' lurking on all forums (got royally bored out by a smug git on a surfing forum once, well gutted) and fingers crossed. Gonna start thinking of a name now too... and modifications... shelter etc Thanks for all your help, really helped spur me on. I'm sure I'll be back asking more silly questions about a boat when the time comes... Renrag
  20. I would say our best bet as a race is to master the use of geothermal generators. I don't know how they work but once that is mastered I would hazard a guess that it will be viable as a base power source. Wind and wave power is unfortunately haphazard as to its regularity. Tidal power could be harnessed but would have 'flat' spots but this could be overcome by many sites. Nuclear waste is the major bone of contention when it comes to nuclear power, once that is solved, I see no reason why not to use it and for now our containment methods are very effective. I would also like to see geothermal power being used to produce hydrogen for the next generation of personal transport. Anyone up for a global warming debate..? lol Renrag
  21. Bottle jack and some long-handled mole-grips ought to do the trick! Tourquinet at the ready lol! Renrag
  22. No worries on the lifejacket front Steve. Currently use a low profile 200N model with auto compressed air inflation (currently disabled for kitesurfing) with a manual override and top-up valve. Replaced the crappy whistle with a properly loud one, not the farty, wheedling p.o.s. they come with. Also have a mini flare gun and an orange smoke popper lol. May well use a small (2sqm) foil kite for added propulsion on 2-3m lines, sure I can rig up a bench harness for safety too, will save rowing/batteries/petrol! Thanks for the replies, will seriously start to consider it now and get 'on the market' so to speak. Any more suggestions welcome. Renrag
  23. Right, its not a top priority but I have this spinning around in my head and want to either kill it for now or proceed at the appropriate time. First of all, its mainly about the storage. I've got about 8 foot by 4 foot of space in the rafters of my motorbike port. Unfortunately its about6.5/7 foot off the ground so that designates the first parameter. It needs to be light! Max 40kgs really. Plus a length less than 9 foot (don't mind it sticking out a bit) Secondly, because of this lack of space, I dont have room for a trailer so it has to go on top of the roof rack. Again needs to be light, roof rated to 50kgs. Thirdly, I'm tighter than a tight thing being squeezed tightly. Would like it to be 'reasonably priced'. Preferably less than £300 of your earthly pounds. The three main options I can see are a portabote but they're a bit much. A kayak/canoe, but I have reservations about their stability, would love to be proved wrong mind coz the kayak especially looks fun. Or a dingy dinghy type affair, maybe a dory style, flat bottomed hull but would settle for traditional clinker/grp rep design. Oh, one other thing, its to be used on the norfolk broads so needs to be able (for my comfort, don't want to wear my wetsuit for fishing really) to withstand the odd wave of about 12-18 inches absolute maximum from bow waves. I believe I'll need at least 6 inches of freeboard for this... bet I'm wrong mind lol Am I asking too much for too little? I really don't know, someone tell me and put me out of my misery or elate me. PLEASE!!! Many thanks in anticipation, Renrag
  24. I can imagine it all... Matey, happily reeling in the lure, then... 'Dunk'. The lure stops. Matey thinks, 'Damn, snagged on the bottom... Oh crap, the bottom is MOVING!!!' Cue Jaws music, change of underwear and manic grin! Kinda makes me wish I soiled myself more often... Renrag
