  1. Looking good mate, I'm allready having sleepless nights
  2. I'm out in a few weekd with Bob, so any indication of what's occuring would be most grateful I'm just hoping my mate comes through with his 12wt, or my 10wt will take a hell of a beating
  3. The old Mid Northhants fishery? Did the old record years ago. Cracking group of lakes. Some stunning fish, Not the easiest but it would be boring if it was easy. Stunning mature pits (apart from the newly dug match type ones) loads of wildlife and more grass snakes than I've seen at a single water before. If you're only 40 mins away, give it a go. BTW, the composting tiolet is best avoided
  4. She's still a little young if you ask me. I pop down to Coltsford Mill occasionally and sometimes get the Wife to drop me off and pick me up. She'll then bring the nipper (he's 3) and I'll let him have a quick go. Then the wife can take him away and I can fish in peace. My nipper spends more time smashing my Platinum X into the water, shouting "come on fishy" I don't know anywhere with a specific kiddies pool.
  5. Jeez, lucky guy this one always makes me laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZgRPkAC-50...ted&search=
  6. Aquasure/Aquaseal is tailor made for such damage steve, It can be used to fill large holes by laying a piece of card or similar under the hole and filling in the gap. I filled quite a bit of mouse damage on my neoprene this year and one of the holes was a good 2 inch round hole.
  7. Doesn't look meaty enough to be a gaff, more likely used for hooking floats on pots?
  8. Can't beat stripping a lure back at break neck spead and watching them bow wave after it then having the rod almost wrenched from your hand. It's one of the greatest sights in trout fishing
  9. Look for a product called aqua seal http://www.macs.com.au/images/aqua%20seal%20std.jpg Used to repair wetsuits and the like, The fix will be stronger that the original material
  10. Try a Palomar, pretty much the best knot by far, the grinner does have a tendancy to flatten an inch or so as you tighten it making it go all kinky
  11. Excellent, I'm off to the shed to try one
  12. Like I said in the original post, I will be mainly targeting dorado. Not 100% sure what else will be around. Small skipjack tuna maybe. Maybe the odd blue Marlin LOL
  13. Stupid as I may be Is there a difference? I know some are built to withstand the corrosive effect of salt more than others, but at the end of the day all reels will perform on freshwater and salt water, just some will last longer Can't see why not as long as it's thoroughly washed out with fresh water after use.
  14. Might have a chance to go out big game fishing mid september and will be packing the 10wt just in case we happen upon a load of dorado, I'm stacked up on lots of flies in the 2/0 - 4/0 size and have got a spool of 30lb rio hard saltwater, and some orvis mirage 18lb flourocarbon. Was thinking of using the Rio as a leader and the flouro as a tippet. Would this be suitable? Or would I need a shock tippet of a higher breaking strain? Any tips would be most appreciated. BTW I have a floating line and an intermediate, would getting hold of a fast sinking line be reccomended? Cheers Singy
  15. Ooooo, I'll be having a bit of that You have another email
  16. Great advice, I'd like to add, you can just cast a baited rig around (with the hook PVA foamed up) and feel it down until you get a nice thump, this is often all you are looking for in heavy weed. then scatter some bait around where it landed. If it get's to the bottom, that is good enough.

    The Algarve

Very handy Was idealy looking for big game. I like to chance my arm I hear september in pretty much in season for the odd blue and white Marlin. Tuna about? Though a day out shark fishing sounds fun.
  18. Have a look at the free spirit bank creepers, 10ft, 2.5lb TC. They'll be just the job. Even shorter than that are the Yateley anging centre 9ft 3 piece stalking rods. These rods are the dog's danglies.

    The Algarve

I'm off on holiday to the Algarve in mid September, I know the bill fish are few and far between as it's generally not regarded as a holding area, they more pass through, but have any of you been out over there and are there any reccomendations of what I can do? Cheers Singy
  20. I have a 4/5, a 6, a 7 and a 10 I use the 6 or the 7 for most of my fishing
  21. the only fish other than chub I've ever caught on them is a jack pike.
  22. Interesting article about the hybridization of carp in India Click here With some good pictures. some nice pics here, but painfully slow site Another site that may be of future use (Burmese fish)
  23. Nice fish. Nothing like the top picture. I've done a quick google image search and found the following pictures under rohu: Some are fom thailand, so may be a different fish alltogether. Either way would love to catch one. Do they fight well? looking at the ones I have found the fins are a very different shape. Colour can be misleading when it comes to fish identification.

It does need to be prepared. Soaking on the bank is fine, it will soak a lot of liquid up. best to prepare as soon as you get on the bank and leave for 30 mins-1 hour. Better still is to prepare the night before using boiling water (or water from hemp or maize production) though this will significantly increase the weight for transporting to the swim. Depends how pressured the fish are. And in many years of angling i've noticed to my carp fishing detrement that bream will feed on pretty much anything. Even brown crumb goes very light after just a few minutes in the water.
  25. Isn't it what they call a Rohu? Very similar to a grass carp. I believe the record is somewhere around the 15 kilo mark, so that does not look too far off
