  1. What has happened to this once prolific stretch of water? 10 -15 years ago it used to be a Mecca for anglers in pursuit of large Chub and Barbel, but nowadays you never read anything in the weekly angling press about this water. Has the Upper Gt Ouse really fallen into such decline? If so, what are the reasons? Surely it can't be blamed on Otters and/or Comorants.
  2. The water in question is only about 15 feet wide at best, 2-3 feet deep and was crystal clear (could clearly see the bottom) on both occasions. Definitely no pike or perch present.
  3. None of the above present in this stretch of water.
  4. On only two occasions in my life have I witnessed this behaviour, both on the same small river. Once when I was 9 and again when I was about 16 (in my 50's now). Neither time did the fish appear sick or injured. Just wondering if anyone else has witnessed this behaviour and/or can offer an explanation?
  5. Hoping to be out on the 12th with the Avon Quivertip, 6lb line and a tub of lobbies, searching out the likely holes and swims in pursuit of large Chub and Perch.
  6. I'll be lucky if my local river will be fishable before the seasons end.
  7. Ah yes, but when all said and done you simply cannot beat the promise of a magical June sunrise . . .
  8. What, like Chris Yates, for instance, does? Why berate a person for wanting to go back to basics? Go for it adsangling, I for one wish you every success in your venture. Be sure to keep us up to date and post the odd photo or two as well.
  9. Hi Guys, As I get older, some things tend to escape me. Could someone please explain to me how dredging will prevent flooding in the future? Surely, lowering a river bed won't lower the water level? I mean, for a given 100m stretch of river the depth may vary, creating shallower and deeper swims. But the surface level along that same stretch of river doesn't vary accordingly. As I say, I'm getting older. Maybe I'm missing something.
  10. Let's not forget, 'taint the rod that'll catch the fish!
  11. Rather a case of 'Horses for Courses'. The Shakespeare Agility doesn't seem a bad rod for the price. £36 at the moment from Go Outdoors. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/agility-12ft-barbel-2-tops-p261088# Almost tempted to get one myself at that price but can't really justify another rod for the sake of it.
  12. As in the title, what's the SP on these pins? Anyone used 'em, any good? Pro's, con's? Any good for light trotting for Dace & Roach? What do you reckon guys?
  13. Hi guys, thanks for the further feedback. My initial concerns regarding this rod was the number of joints, and the possibility of these being weak points. It would appear from what some of you have posted, that my fears are unwarranted. Cheers.
  14. Thanks for the feedback so far, keep it coming. Looks like one of these could be the tool for the job, if it could handle a double figure barbel.
  15. As far as I'm aware, it was only the barbel that were dyed, not the other fish that were released at the same time.
  16. Hi Guys, I'm thinking of acquiring one of these for carrying on a bicycle. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOHN-WILSON-SIGNATURE-AVON-QUIVER-TRAVEL-ROD-5-PIECE-/310720396584?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Fishing_FishingRods_EH&hash=item485860fd28#ht_1156wt_904 Anyone used one of these? Would you recommend? Are they any good, up to the job etc? Is there a better travel rod out there? Cheers
  17. Try these links: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/7741265.stm http://www.onlinefishing.tv/news/blue-barbel-released-into-great-ouse/ http://www.barbelnow.co.uk/news/ousemark.htm I was just trying to find out what became of this experiment. I wonder if the EA have conducted any 'follow up' survey of some kind? Surely someone must've bagged one or two of these marked fish in the last five years, and hopefully some of the fish would've spread futher along the river? And no, I don't fish the Black Rabbit stretch of the Arun.
  18. Has anyone even heard or read of the capture of one of these dyed barbel?
  19. Back in November 2008, the EA released 750 dyed barbel into the Gt Ouse at Radwell, Bedfordshire, in an attempt to monitor fish movements etc. Has anyone here caught one of these particular barbel? If so, roughly where was it caught and what kind of weight? A photo would be appreciated.
  20. It's a TF Gear Hardwear 50 Baitrunner Reel
  21. Does anyone know if this reel is any good???
  22. As in the title, this reel any good?
