  1. My local tackle shop owner was once in the sunday paper as he won a match by catching a bag full of chub on chips.
  2. Pike use vibrations in the water to find prey most of the time. They hear injured fish or animals on the surface and go find them. I have never caught pike in the rain with lures or baits. I suggest you go to web page and look for a lure that fits the job intended. They have masses of lures for all depths and water conditions. They have free postage in the UK .
  3. People that keep playing about with their bite alarms! BEEP BEEP BEEP... Yes ok it works, now shut up! If you are sitting 2m from your rods, you dont have to be able to hear it on the other side of the pond. I also agree with blue seats and umbrellas. They look stupid.
  4. Fishing chatrooms never seem to last as long as bulliten boards. They may prove popular at first but wont be as popular in the long run. + Chat rooms pull in kids who just want to anoy people!?!
  5. I was refering to bait fishing. When the pressure is low pike seem to mope about on the bottom instead of speeding about after live prey when the pressure is higher.
  6. humm... I think that caption competitions are probably best as i have most chance of winning one of those with my comical nature . On the other hand i have never one yet so maybe a 'guess the fish weight' would be better.
  7. I use spicy or fish flavours in winter and that seems to work. I dont use sweet flavours very often but sweetcorn flavour works in summer and that is sweet.
  8. I have a 6m whip whihc i have used a few times for bleak but i want to use it for roach etc.. How do i elasticate a whip? Is its possible and is it expensive? Is there a website that will show me pics of how to do it? I dont know the terminology of pole fishing so i need its to be really clear. For example i dont know what a skid bung is. Ok im dum when it comes to poll fishing!
  9. As far as i know, you catch more in low pressure and less in high pressure. Im not sure why mind!
  10. In winter i swithch to a samll block end feeder. Make sure the goundbait is not a sweet one and your ready. This stops me putting in too much bait as very little is going in.
  11. Never hear of mint boilies but i did use milk and cream before. It was a good catcher too!
  12. I find it easiest to take fish out but then agen i mostly fish for roach etc.. I take carp out also but when it comes to pike over 10lb they stay in the net! Its really hard to handle a big pike out of water without getting your fingers damaged!
  13. I find it easiest to take fish out but then agen i mostly fish for roach etc.. I take carp out also but when it comes to pike over 10lb they stay in the net! Its really hard to handle a big pike out of water without getting your fingers damaged!
  14. I want to own a tackle shop. As well as a large pond. Any help?
  15. I have caught many carp and pike and noticed that carp are more interesting. They have nice faces and are all individuals. Every carp i pull out is different, mirror, common, koi etc.. but all pike are the same to me. All long with a face that looks like saintan himself! Carp= Pike=
  16. I will have to try it. What is it with carp anglers!
  17. Ok first i shall tell you a bit about the pond and what is in there so you can answer my questions better. The pond is large with loads of shrubs and reeds all around the margins. It hold roach to around 1lb (i think bigger) but it also holds thousands of gudgeon to around 7". These massive gudgeon shoals respond to feed and kick out other feeding fish like roach. So how do i catch big roach with rod and reel? I have tryed many bait but gudgeon take em all! What can i do?
  18. I catch a lot of rainbow trout on my river but earlier this year i pulled out my first grayling. About 1.5lb. They are in there but they are few and the introduction of bait brings in shoals of rainbows! I mite buy a fly set up just to fish for them.
  19. Mullet??? Thats a salt water fish, is it not? Biterling, stergeon, orfe, grass carp. Still a few missing.
  20. I think all i have to say is the word 'sponsers' and 'Browning'. Not to mention '4 times world champ.'
  21. I had sum perch then followed by gudgeon and then sum nice roach. It was slow but it was worth it for the 1lb roach. (also a strange rudd) [see 'winter Rudd']
  22. Zander!!!! I just dont know where to go and to tell the truth i cant be bothered. I think i shall stick to what im good at....which is everything else
  23. I went fishing today and pulled out a Rudd. It was strangly fat around the belly. It looked deformed so i put it straight back. The belly was double the with of the back  . Appart from that i had a few roach (including a 1 lber), some perch and some massive gudgeon (up to 6"). Winter is just as good as summer but without the tench.
  24. There seems to be a South wind comming in for Sunday so im off up the fishing pond. I know to get the wind in my face to connect with the bream in the thermocline but do you lot have any tips for getting winter bream interested? I fancy using sweetcorn, red worm and maybe some bread. Should i feeder fish or float and would a groudbait help at this time of year?
