  1. If you are giving something to the community (e.g. disabled angling or children facillities) you will get funding.
  2. Carp will double in size each year until about 4 when they are adult size and slow down. On the other hand if the pool is stocked tightly they will not grow like normal. If the carp breed and numbers keep increasing you can find yourself with a pond full of 1lb carp. The amount of food they ingest can be found by feeding and watching. Find out how much food they can eat in 5 mins and feed them that amount 2-3 times a day.
  3. Nice fish! I just take out the nasty insides, butter em and stick em in the microwave. Works a treat!
  4. Areas like the one described are usually havens for roach, dace etc.. so pike should be present. If there is a drop off where it gets deeper suddenly the pike will be found there. As Alan said its hard to tell.
  5. I once got arun from a pole cat, but he came off before i got him in the net. Only just hooked but still the biggest thing i had all day. My dad once told me that he had caught a terrapin (about 2lb!) on maggots. The silly man weighed it and put him back.
  6. I once got arun from a pole cat, but he came off before i got him in the net. Only just hooked but still the biggest thing i had all day.
  7. I have used foam on the hook to pop worms up. At the moment im getting the numbers of red worm in the compost heap up. Im gonna have plenty of bait during this winter!
  8. What you mean to say is "big carp", not "big carps". There is no plural with fish so its always e.g. lots of roach not roaches. Sorry but im always telling my mum off for saying pikes etc.. Back to the point thought, the page link doesn't seem to work?
  9. How do people stop their un-hooking mat from freezing or getting covered in frost? I dont want to put a carp on a frozen mat (must be very uncomfortable). Should i just keep it in the bivvy and keep it dry until i hook into something?
  10. The river has been up and coloured for a few days now, but that didnt stop me catching 8lb of bleak and dace on Friday! When the water drops it will be time for pike so im sorted.
  11. A warm hat is vital (e.g ESP fleece hat). Most of our body heat is lost through the head so stick a hat on and keep warm!
  12. Nice 1! I once had a 1lb roach on sweetcorn which was nice.
  13. Maxima feeder braid did it for me. I have it in 8lb and i think its fab. It is just above neutral boyancy so bounces about in mid water. When i used it on my local still water i caught bream and no carp! Usually i only catch carp there!!!
  14. During winter chances are the fish will be deeper down, but it is worth varing the depth of the float throughout the day to find at what depth the fish are feeding. Its all to do with temp. amd pressure but if you play about you will soon find em!
  15. I bought the samee pack from Harris last year. Its great! The grubs are great for perch and the shads are fantastic for winter pike as you can wobble them about on the bottom. I didnt have much luck with the worms but i did manage a grayling using one. Good luck.
  16. In winter I use deeper lures , slower moving retrival, louder rattling lures and brighter colours (like pink ).
  17. Good tips. I have been putting curry powder in my bread crum for ages and pull out loadsa roach using it.
  18. Now chub i can do! Chub are a very normadic species and the cleverest of river fish (appart from them river carp). I have sat and wached shoals of chub in Herefords 2 rich in chub rivers and noticed something. Chub stay where the food is! If you keep an area full of food the chub will stay there. e.g. on the Old bridge over the Wye (Hereford) people feed the ducks most days of the week. This is why chub are always found here. So if you feed well you will catch lots.
  19. I find normal earthworms or dendras will work well especially with chop worm as loose feed.
  20. The best bait for cathing bigger carp is boilies. If you use a bigger boilie chances are you will catch bigger fish. Try using 15mm of a fishy flavour. e.g. crap flavour. That should get in carp of about 10lb+.
  21. The guy whos bivvy survived must have made his himself. (out of reinforced steel) I found my shed in the middle of the road on Saterday evening!
  22. Seph is right. It is going to take a lot of effort to fish the water described. If you enjoy marker floating and spending loads on bait give it a go but if not stick to a nice easy pond. Sorry for being so nagative.
  23. On the perch subject, in most of my local carp ponds they have stocks of perch. Without these the carp would all become smaller and over populated until they become unhealthy. Perch, pike etc.. are all needed to keep the life cycle going. Viva le pike!!!
