  1. Thanks Barry !!! That was a real nice video you made on the DVD you sent me. You must spent a lot of time going through your dad's box of goodies to put it all together. That was very informative and a treasure for me, I now have quite a lot of info about your dad's magnificent achievements. I would imagine the world would be interested that DVD of yours.... Les Moncrieff 1913-1987 ... Would anyone be able to purchase from you... ?
  2. There is also something I read in the mag Sea Angler.... about a decade or more ago... I seemed to have lost this copy... sigh. Does anyone still have a copy of the issue ? I think the heading was 'The Dustbin Revisited' or some sort like that. It's about the 25 th anniversary of the infamous night at Dungeness where the so called record hull of hugh cod happened. The surviving members turn up at Dungeness and tell their story. Anyone knows about that publication... ?
  3. Whoa..... 7 years on... and then... It's an honor Barry to have you resurrect this thread. You have email and also a message through this site. Hope you got it. Thanks for the offer and truly glad that I can finally get to know a bit more of your dad, who's legacy was inspirational in me being a life-long shore angler from an early age through publications of your dad's fame and heroics. Thanks
  4. Well spotted, and Well Done, SandTiger .......
  5. Thanks for the tip oldfella. EXcellent ... will check up on that... thanks ! andrew
  6. Hi Elton, Great site, the bivvy.co.uk... I knew it was yours as I did quite an intensive search for info on the internet... great info that I found useful. Keep on with the updates. Thanks. Problem is pegs are difficult to sink into a pebble ground, it won't go in much. Best I did was fill bags with pebbles and tie guy ropes using these heavy bags as an anchor to hold tents down. The great revolutionary thing about the Ian Golds Beach Buddy is it has a long skirt all round the base of the shelter, where you can pile pebbles over the skirt which weigh down the tent, and prevent the wind from getting under it. The wind actually presses the tent down and keeps it stable due to this and it's shape. Yes the Nash Titan Viper was also my safest choice, but I'm looking for something more on the budget that I can experiment with. Julian, thanks for the thumbs up on that bivvy, as that was also one for consideration. I haven't actually seen any of these bivvys in real life, there lies my limited knowledge. I bought a porter barrow specially to shift all my stuff. I also will bring along a sofa cushion to place on the barrow and sit on it to fish like on a platform with the handles customised to take rod rests and a rod pod with optonics and swingers etc.... Rob, thanks but think I'll opt for a rigid frame one to withstand the pressure of the wind. Yes I would actually like to anchor down the groundsheet, possibly with pebbles like the John Holden's beach buddy. Hi Oldman. Inflatable mattress is one thing I would get. Kids and missus have been with me quite a few times before and they hate sitting on pebbles. Will consider the Hutchinson Cabrio too. Thing is I would like to experiment, and improvice. Just need to know which cheap version fixed frame bivvy has a sew in groundsheet, that I may cut up leaving a long skirt all around so that I can use pebbles to anchor the bivvy down once it is opened? I can then buy another groundsheet, lay it over, and velcro it over the whole thing. Thanks guys....
  7. Found some info in the www.bivvies.co.uk But still not sure how effective on a bleak deserted windswept beach .....
  8. I'm looking for a bivvy that can be easily set up on an open beach in Force 5 gale winds like what dungeness has to offer. I used to have a John Holden's beach buddy which is only big enough for one person sitting on a tacklebox. Just sold it off. My kids now want to come along and stay in the bivvy with me for overnight sessions on the beach. None of the sea angling manufacturers does a large tent/bivvy suitable for the beach. So, with your experience of being bivvy dwellers, hope you can share some of your knowledge on what I would be loking out for. I have just bought a twin wheel carp porter to lug my equipment down to my peg/swim from my car. Tried it out Saturday and it's great. There is the Nash Double Top Extreme Professional and the Nash Combat Speed 1 or 2. Can it be erected in gale force winds conditions? Budget as about £169.00 I guess.... Would something like a Nash Hooligan 2 works as it's only £89.00 ? A Tardis on a windswept beach ? doubt it ..... maybe some other suggestions thanking you guys for the time cheers andrew
  9. err... not the housework.... it's reported in the news that it's the housewife that gets worked over when their hubby/partner comes home intoxicated.... worst period was when England were in the last few World Cup matches.... well. I'm gonna spend my time indoors watching the weather onslaught on the beach webcam... stay warm...
  10. usual or unusual ...? Don't imagine there's other places to park there except in the carpark. But there would have a cctv there wouldn't it ? I'll be afraid the next time I visit.... eventhough tha car is insured and no valuables left in it...
  11. Hiya Davy .... ah ! ... so that's your weekend sport eh? Water Ski on the Loch attached to a giant skate lol Happy New Year to you and your family....
  12. hi, if you were a Carpie angler before. you could use your gear to some serious effect.. improvise your tripod to take optonics and swingers, and you can experiment with the amount of lead to hang on the swinger to balance the flow of tide..... use 25lb bs braid as mainline, lob out a large bait (whole small fish, sandeel, or whole squid) on 5/0 pennels tied to 25lb bs grease weasel mono trace, and 2-3 oz grip leads, and you are set up for a self hooking bolt rig not unlike that of the carpie's arsenal...... There is quite a lot of braid that can be loaded on a baitrunner, so a good fight could be in store if you hook a monster.... but I'll doubt whether you will land a skate ... well, my main target is only bass from the shore....
  13. From the shorecasting and beachfishing aspect.... I use braid only on reels with a line guide.... at the moment, I have 2 abu6500C3 filled with 30lb fireline just to test out the properties and practical fishability. These reels are coupled with my pair of Daiwa Emblem Interline carp rods which I am using to bottom fish at distances at up to 100m with 60gm (homemade)gemini breakaway leads. Braid allows me to fish very light on clean beaches, and feel the fish when reeling in.... especially when big bass bashing... whew ! I spool it with about 30 m of mono backing on the reel and use straight through to the clip where I put my traces on... as my interline rods won't allow knots to go through if connected to a shockleader.. so that suits me fine. I am still using mono on my heavier distance casting shorefishing outfits.... on my two 6500ctmags and my SL30SH.... these have no line guidews for distance work ... so would not want to use the fingers to guide the braid when winding in ..... as braid digs in at the point where pressure is applied.... there would be at certain points of the winding in that would have the braid digging in during practical fishing situations.... and this would be bad if I were to try and give it a wellie on the next cast .... birdnest on braid is a no go situation.... Will still stick to 0.35 or 0.40 mono when shorefishing at above 120m on ct multis with 5-6 oz leads and normal beachcasting rods... with 0.80 mono shockleaders.... as the cons out weigh the pros... unless someone enlightens me ?
  14. Smudge, Yup! I had to specially prepare some ormers for some officials of the Guernsey Tourist Board so that they can have a tasting when I was the Head Chef of Bertie's Landing in 1998. Cooked the same way, but seasoned it first after the beating with me rolling pi, then pat dy with some flour before sealing it in a pan with butter. Then casserole in oven for about 4-5 hrs. Lovely....! Really miss the splendour of living there. Remember Batten's? I came over to organise the kitchen for the launch. Then left to revamp Bertie's Landing. And finally organise and launch Cafe' Fuji, the Japanese Teppanyaki and Sushi Restaurant. Miss staying in Cobo Bay and Vazon Bay, just opposite the beaches where I fish for the Bass with live sandeels. Happy New Year 2003 everyone !!!

  16. Well, I don't want to be here! I don't wanna be in any forum. I don't wanna be stuck in front of me Pc!!! Sue me, sue you...what a life in cyberspace!!! I just wanna go fishing!!!!!! ahem.... Ok, got that off my chest too spasor. Now if you would allow me to get back to the subject of something fishee that I have always enjoyed. The Anticipation of Catching Fish. Just to say that I have finally decided to load both spools of my Abu Elites with 0.30 12lb Penn Super Long Distance Surf that I had lying around. I have taken the precaution of not filling it up to the top, leaving about 3mm of gap probably to the rim. Maximum distance is precisely what I'm after, hoping to maybe pushing it 30m further than my normal 0.35mm dia line max distance. Most anglers normally use 0.35 to 0.40 on clean beaches like this. I have tried 0.30mm once before, and I had no problems with birdnest, though I had to be very cautious. Guess it was because I had filled it right up to the rim. I'll test it out first as I may have to strip a bit more line off. The place I am fishing on Saturday is Dungeness and is reknown for cod. But only a handful of anglers ever catch them I am told. Proficient anglers who cast well. My casting instructor back then told me the secret is that, they can reach the fish where others fail. Cod packs follow the whiting shoals inshore to feed. If you can't cast over the shoals of small whiting, the cod won't have a chance of getting to the bait as the pesky whiting will make a feast of it. Hence, I am using desperate measures to gain me a bit more distance, though it is no guarantee as the cod maybe even be beyond my smoothest pendulum. At least it's the best option I can think off. Baits will also have to be hugh, lots of lugworm(3 to a 4/0 hook tipped off with squid) on each side of the wishbone rig, so it looks like 1 hugh bait when it falls together. Give the cod the chance to pick up the scent and take the bait before the whiting strips it bare. Bloody beggars those whiting! But they'll be no cod around without them, hm... 4/0 hooks so that at least if a whiting gets hooked on one of them, there is at least 1 bare hook and hopefully 2, waiting to hook the cod if it decides to take the whiting along with the worm bait too. This the rig that accounted for the 18lb 2oz cod landed by a friend. Well, will let you know how things go. I'm always learning and testing it out with all I can muster. Any additional suggestions before I hit the beach will be most appreciative? Cheers and have a great weekend. Happy fishing guys.
  17. Hey! I like to say that I come onto a forum and contribute when I am happy to do so or able to do indeed. I would be happy to offer help and advice when I feel like it. But I definately won't be happy if someone demands or tells me to do so. Lighten up Alan, fishing and chatting about fishing should be fun and friendly. You are not running a business here. It should be a relaxation, an escape from the rat-race for all, a safe haven you might say. Smile, and the world will smile with you. And people will feel happy to put in their 2 bits worth, with all their heart. Merry Christmas everyone.
  18. Thanks Davy for taking the time to explain to Alan the reasons. quote: Mike - welcome to you. Stick around. Post some. After all, spending all your time on only one forum is like fishing only one spot. And FWIW - you are welcome to post a real link on here if you want. Like http://www.anglingforums.co.uk/ and click on the Sea section. [ 05. 19. Wow JT, Do you have a website with your photos and write ups ? Sure would like to know more about how you do it over that part of the world. I'm in SE London and fish the Kent region. 43yrs old from Malaysia and been settled in the UK for 16 yrs now. Been fishing since 7 and the rest of my info is in my website at http://www.shorefishingadventure.co.uk Cheers guys.
  20. Hi everyone ! Thanks for providing a refuge for the TSFSC guys. Direct link to where some of us are squatting is here http://www.anglingforums.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=37 Sometimes difficult to load up. Crashed a few times...wonder why? Thanks again anglersnet.
  21. Had that for 3 years now, when I bought it in Guernsey. Just went through it again last night to try to remember my times there. Photo of Maurice, my sandeel supplier on photo plate R, between page 54 & 55 Photo plate N is where I normally fish, to the left (Cobo Bay) lived for 6 months in the winter lets holiday home right in front facing Cobo Bay. Remember walking out at midnight across the road to fish for Bass at high tide. Photo plate O is Salarie, right on the front of the Cafe Fuji restaurant, the only Japanese restaurant on the Ch Isles, that I was employed to set-up and launch. Ther was more than a few thousand mullet swimming about for a few days on high tide right here, visible from the road !
  22. Maybe try contact Mick at Mick's tackle supplies at 01481-700390. His place is next to Alladin's cave at Unit 6, Les Canus, Les Canus Road, St. Peter Port. Can't seem to locate Peter Perrio, who used to own a tackle shop in Guernsey. Anyone knows his whereabouts now ?
  23. Guernsey Bass Festival ? Boat of shore ? Fished the shore comp when I stayed in Guernsey for 2 years 97-99. It’s a competition regarded very seriously by the locals and visiting participants. Real secrecy as to where they go to target their winning bass. Competition was 1 week long. One thing you need is to go to the fishermen’s pier and get your supply of life sandeels. Also a life-bait carrier with aerator to keep it alive. Try fishing 30 yds out from the high tide point 1hr before and after high tide at Cobo Bay right at the outflow pipe that looks like a tiny pier at low tide. Fish when the tide completely covers it. And bait is life sandeel. It might be too dangerous for newbies to fish the low tide marks as the tide comes up very fast and may cut off access to safety. Tide goes out for a mile some places. And big rocks/cliffs at low tide gets completely covered at high tide. Very dangerous !!!
  24. Down but not out. Just methamorphorsised or something like that.... lol no schoolin' Couldn't get on last night too. A thong
