  1. Hi There is no worse feeling, and I feel for anyone whom suffers from it. My recommendation for sea sickness if Carbonateed Water, I am at sea in the wilds of the Atlantic of the Isle of Lewis in the North West Scotland around 2-4 times a month sea fishing, usually taking part in competitions. When I first started sea angling when I was around 13 I was sea sick even if the sea was dead calm, and for 6 or 7 years this went on, I was even feeling sea sick the night before, before I even stepped foot on the boats ... it was that bad. Now, I am pretty much OK with a very heavy sea, and its been near 10 years since I have been sick at sea. To beat it, I started staying out of the wheel house when steaming, and not eating or drinking anything that might be heavy on the stomach (crips, orange, spicey stuff etc), and might come back up on me ... also I generally try to keep no pressure on my back (ie when steaming ... try not to sit with my back against something so your body moves freely when breathing) ... works for me. Im my club, we have around 24 junior anglers, many of them suffering badly from choppy seas ... a few of them have tried the Carbonated Water I suggested to them when they feel ill, and it has helped. I have to admit though in March I felt pretty ill at sea, when I was up fishing in Scrabster ... a good few drinks the night before, and then a breakfast at 8am in the fishermans mission house of a big fry-up that included chips ... that and a really bad sea did not go well together, I felt ill Try the Carbonated Water at sea, it might settle your stomach, or help as it has for me. My recommendation is "Highland Spring" - green bottle. Gillies
  2. Agree with Newt, designing the database the other way around is a good way of developing the database, is the way I usually do it also ... Gaffer's potential database sounds like a pretty straight forward flat database, if he manages to get his head around creating the fields, then he should have no problem creating the forms, reports, and queries using the wizards .... and just keep making it better during playing with Access and learning more about it. It wont need any deep normalisation of data, and the relationships can be kept to a minumum. From what I can see, two tables, one for the crash and one for the aircrew with a relationship on an aircrew_ID between the two tables would be sufficient possibly. Once you get your head around it, Access can be a very simple Database. Though depending on how the data is to be stored, and used ... a Word table might do Gillies
  3. A big congrats to you both Gillies
  4. Whisky is my favourite drink, and I cannot drink beer or lager. So when I would go out with my friends each Saturday night, they would all usually have a Vodka or spiced rum and a pint of beer ... and me been a Cider drinker then, I would have a whisky (Whyte & Mackay) and Cider .... so as you can imagine I often did not manage to eat dinner on sunday. Was near death, think its something thats in us Scots though ... getting totally out of it. I did have Cider once in Hull, that was from the tap in a pub, it had no bubbles in it at all, and you could feel the bits of apple in it .. anyone any ideas what it is? what a hangover I had next day. Does anyone know if they still make Autumn Gold, That was a nice once ... and the Blackthorn medium-Sweet one in a red can that Little Onions mentioned? Diamond White is just evil !!!!
  5. Newt, your lucky your are not a Cider drinker The Cider Hangover is a "near death experience", your head, your stomach ... oh, its the worst. I used to really enjoy a glass of Strongbow cider ... but have had to stop, it just wasted the next day I was so ill. Oh, and 'Ks' cider was if you wanted a "very near death experience" LOL. Which cider do you drink Little Onions? Bad thing about Brooklyn Bridge is once your on it, you can't stop .... even if you have worlds worst hangover and your breakfast & lunch wish to jump out. Only thing I could do was put my head out the window and let it fly ... yuck. LOL Gillies
  6. I'll argue that one with you Newt LOL I've been going over to New York a few times a year since 99, and when I was a Cider drinker in 99/00 I often got Cider in the bars, "Woodpecker" or "Red Rock". ... they served it in the bars in Bayridge - Brooklyn and Manhattan I was in. Subway Series in 2000 - Mets V Yankies was a heavy time in bars ... oh the memories of going over the Brooklyn Bridge with a cider enduced hangover ... LOL Gillies
  7. I think the date of Lord of the Rings 2 date is 26th of August in the States and here. If you want DVD's that are released in the states before here, and dont want to pay crazy prices getting them, try CD-WOW. http://www2.cd-wow.com/index_2.php I buy from them all the time, and get some DVDs months before they are out here, and even sometimes they are no even showing at the cinemas here and you can get them. I got "Catch me if you can" on DVD for £13.99 in the mail the other day .... had "Changing Lanes" on DVD before it was out here in the cinema ... and the Back to the Future Trilogy many many months before released in the UK, for under £20. The DVD's are on a whole very much cheaper than most other places, and you don't pay postage ... even though they are shipped from Hong Kong and take 3-4 days to arrive. If your desperate for Lord of the Rings 2 on DVD ... send me a message or E-mail me. Regards, Gillies

    Traps

I used a few sheets of corrigated iron to great success, they had been dumped by a farm beside the sea at the water level, so I stuck each one down in various places on a flat bottom where there was alot of weed. The amount of crab is unreal ... I dont normally use pealers though, so dont often check for them. Gillies
  9. I also use the web cam often, and think they are great. I mainly use them for talking to friends and colleagues in New York with Microsoft Netmeeting. The quality of the video and sound is on a whole majorly dependant on the speed of network you are on, so you get very good results on Broadband, though even with a 56k dial up you can get semi-reasonable results at the correct time of day. Netmeeting is pretty good, and can be freely downloaded from the Microsoft web site and boasts a number of usefull facilities. It also comes along with Windows 2000 and XP. If you cant find it on your Start menu in 2000 or XP, just go to Run and type in "conf". Gillies
  10. I use lead heads alot, mainly for pollack, spinning from the shore and from the boat inshore casting towards the shore. I find, that the heavier the leadhead the quicker it dives (obviously) ... but as it dives quicker the tail on the jell lure goes straighter, so you dont get as good an action. So if fishing deep water or an area with a strong current, I would opt for a heavy leadhead to get down quick, but use a very slow retrieve to get as best an action you can from the lure. In shallow water, when spinning for Pollack I use around 1.5oz to 2oz leadhead with a very slow retrieve to get a good action from the tail. I guess its, all down to its speed in the water and getting a good action from the tail of the lure, wind to fast and the tail just about goes straight and looses its action making it possibly not as effective. So if you plan on using around 10oz, with an 8oz weight and 2oz leadhead I would guess the weight of the lead makes little difference as long as the action of the lure is been used to its very best, and you can easily work it. Hope this is of some help, think I kind of even confused myself when typing it. Gillies
  11. We get great numbers of Sea Trout here on the Isle of Lewis (Harris is better), and depending on the area, fishing for them usually starts in February. Many people spin for them with great success with Sandeel imitation spinners (Krill, toby etc), but if it's in an estuary they tend to use small Mepps, and that seems to work great. One of my mates fishes for them with great success using the fly, and his catches of numerous quality fish up to near double figures make many a person jealous. He tends to fish the fly over sandy areas mainly, or along the edge of sand and sea weed covered bottoms ... waders are a must have. Other techniques that are used up here are frozen sandeel cast with a ball lead, and very slowly retrieved over the sand at high tide. Me, I usually just spin with the Krills or tobys and hope for the best ... feeling they are making a fool of me and having a laugh, as they jump about everywhere. Gillies
  12. Its strange how you are getting such bad prints ... even with glossy photo paper and a low dpi printer you can get a semi-decent print, have you set your Printer Properties to know that you are using glossy photo paper? Or it could be that your printer heads/nozzles need a wipe possibly. I agree with Nick, the Epson 925 or 950 is a very good choice. I take a lot of digital photos, mainly of Scottish scenery etc, and ship a number of A4 size prints to the US and around the UK the quality is that good from the 925. Gillies
  13. I have often made large orders to the US for tackle for me and my friends, especially Cabellas and Bass Pro for fishing tackle, and was getting hammered with crazy shipping & handling (40% of order) and customs bills ontop of that .... I am often over in NYC, so I thought to save money I should get my orders mailed to friends over there, and they would repackage it, and mail it onto me as a gift to save on the customs and excessive shipping charges, it does save a few £'s if your order costs a few $s. Newt is right though, what you pay in $ USD expect to pay around that in $ GBP. Gillies
  14. Hi I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about the Penn Giller Thriller, and if it is any good as a Pollack rod? Any info on it would be great. Gillies
  15. Don't mess with them... A woman and a man are involved in a car accident; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them are hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, " So you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days". Flattered, the man replies, "Oh yes, I agree with you completely, this must be a sign from God!" The woman continues, "and look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune." Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle and immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man. The man asks, "Aren't you having any?" The woman replies, "No. I think I'll just wait for the police.... " MORAL OF THE STORY: Some women are clever and devious. Don't mess with them!
  16. Maybe try the Glasgow Angling Centre out the Gallowgate, just past the Barras. Gillies

  18. I think according to Bushwackers riddle the word is "language", but looking about there seems to be 5 words in the Oxford English Dictionary that end in gry: 1. Angry 2. Hungry 3. aggry 4. puggry 5. meagry Got this from a search on google Gillies
  19. Nice one Davy I think the results Scotland 5 England 0 is very possible ... saldy right now also is Scotland 0 Andorra 2
  20. Sorry if you thought I was slagging of England, but I wasn't ... so dry your eyes out! I was just saying what I think about the England team right now and how the current team are playing, also I admit Scotland are rubbish and just now, infact they are the worst they have been in a long time. I wouldn't knock Wales, they are doing pretty well for themselves right now, a game between England and Ireland or Wales would be pretty interesting, and I think with the current England squads form, it would be very hard games. I like to see all the International teams do well, including England. I think good comparisons can be made between the current England team and the team whom beat us in Euro 96 ... that was a good team (Shearer, Gazza and co) and a good team to watch ... Gillies
  21. Strange how us Scots produce good managers (Ferguson, Strachan, Moyes, Dalgish etc) but we can not seem to produce a good team. I do think though if a Scotsman (especially Ferguson) took up the role of England manager then he would not be not allowed to set foot again in Scotland, he would be linched ... Just look at how many die hard Scotland fans look at Alan Hansen now. His word "we" when he refers to England ... has lost him nearly all respect in Scotland. I don't mind if a Scotsman manages England, I just enjoy watching a good game of football ... I think the new manager has a lot of work to do. Who's going to play in goal? the defence can't play together, the midfield is predictable and lacks creativity, and there is no good strikers (unless Alan Shearer returns from retirement) ... or that Rooney boy is given a chance before the vastly over-rated Owen. Anyway, maybe the England team will be better now since your Golden Boy got a bang on the head
  22. Thought this Saddam thing was kind of funny, though I don't exactly agree with it right now ... it may take a wee while to load on a 56k dial-up connection, as its a flash animation, and needs sound. http://www.madblast.com/view.cfm?type=FunF...sh&display=1610 Gillies
  23. What about the team itself? A number of players seem to be in there ... and dont exactly seem upto the job from what I can see ... Michael (the mis-firing golden boy of old) Owen, Gary Neville ... do I dare to say David Beckham? to name a few. From a Scotsmans point of view the England team seems to have lost it, there is no creativity or flare in it ... they are "predictable" and full or over paid pre-maddonas whom dont seem to be playing for their jersey, instead since they are playing for big Premiership teams with a number of World Class forgeiners they seem to think they should be in the England squad by default. There next few games will be interesting. Gillies PS: Yes I know Scotland are second rate cr*p right now.
  24. What did everyone think of the England teams defeat to Australia? I didn't expect them to win at all, as they are cr*p right now. Following their performances over the last few games where they were lucky against so called lesser teams, I had the feeling that they would loose. No matter how you look at it, it seems the team is full of players whom can not play together, and are massively overhyped as gods by the media. The first half was comical. What can England do to make themselves better? replace some of the first half dead wood with the second half boys? or try to get them to stop beleiving their own hype to get rid of their complacency? who knows ... As for Scotland, I expected us to loose, we are still playing rubbish (and will be a long time) ... well done the Irish, was a good start for their new manager. Also, well don to the Welsh! Gillies
