  1. The guys a total freaky nutcase, whom is he trying to kid living in a dangerously disturbed dreamland ... Ive always thought of him as a looney, and when I watched the TV thing I thought at first, he isn't too bad ... then after about 10-15 mins I was proven wrong. The painting he has on his wall of himself says a lot about the disturbed world he wants to live in ... been a white guy, surrounded by kids seen him as god (and more that I dont think I can write) ... he's sickening.
  2. About 10 years ago, I tried tickling a Salmon one bright day when the water was extremely low and their was allot of them in the pool, onet was hiding in the shade below the river bank edge, so I gave it ago. I failed though ... Has anyone ever managed this?
  3. I hope the girl in the office I played the wee trick ons ... sense of humor kicks in some time, right now I don't think I'm on her christmas card list
  4. You would have to cross two seas ... first the North Sea, and then across to the Isle of Lewis. Incidentally, I didnt set picture as bosses desktop background, but did set it on one of the secretaries. So room might need a clean after she sees it Gillies
  5. Has anyone gone from XP Home to XP Pro? I need to do that for development ... or does anyone know how to put IIS onto XP Home? Also I installed XP Pro on another machine doing a clean install onto a blank Hard Disk, and it works fine. Every person I know with ME has had problems at some point.
  6. Yuck ... thats horrile. Has given me a good childish idea, I might connect into my bosses computer from mine, and set that image as her desktop background . . . will be a lovely surprise when she reboot's tomorrow morning :-)
  7. I really enjoying up stream worming, its such an exciting way to fish, and their is quite allot of skill involved ... I can't boast at been very skillfull at it though. I often do it in streams or small rivers for Brown Trout, Salmon and Sea Trout. I find Spring/Summer a good time for doing it for the Brown Trout, and when ever there is a good level of fresh water in the river for the Salmon and Sea Trout, especially at the back end of the season. 8. Recently split with my girl-friend, so I think it will be a night with a bottle of wine, and a glass for one (lol)
  9. Nice one !!!!!! Gillies
  10. Hi Have been looking at the Penn Tidecutter 12-20 boat rod, looks a lovely rod for drift fishing with bait ... so am very tempted. I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about this rod? or is it better going for a Team Daiwa 12-30 rod? or any others with similar action. Any thoughts from anyone ....? Gillies
  11. It seem's to me that so called "do gooders" are making a mess of society today, where kids can get away with anything. My friend started her first week of teacher training last week in a secondary school, and on the second day she had a 13 year boy sit through the class singing a song about her breasts all through the class ... on asking him to leave the class we wouldn't, on getting the principal he didn't care and continued his antics when the principal was in the class ... they get off with far to much in schools now. I know of another case before christmas where an 8 year old child was throwing stones at cars, and it was reported to his parents and the Police, the mother of the child spanked the boy on finding out, and one of the first questions the police asked the boy when they came to his house was did his mother spank him for his actions ... since he said yes, social services had to be called. Now many kids now just have no respect, and in a society where we want to protect kids as much as we can ... it's hard. But it seems someway has to be found to get them to have respect for teachers and their parents ... how I don't know ... should we bring back the belt/cane in schools? I really don't know what can be done ... also a good smack on the backside didnt do to much harm to kids! Gillies
  12. The snobbery that exist in fly fishing for Trout is unreal … here on the Isle of Lewis it is rife, many fly fishermen here refer to fishing with a worm as fishing with the snake, and look down their noses at anglers whom fish the worm. I find it so relaxing and exciting sitting on the bank of a loch and watching the bubble float with a worm suspended below it, waiting for some kind of irregular movement in the float, and the excitement when you have to run for the rod once you do get a bite. If fished with the right tackle, the sport can be terrific, and we are lucky up here, as don't need to purchase a lisence to fish for Brown Trout, there are more lochs with Trout in them than you could ever fish. I fish the fly on our numerous small Hebridean rivers, and the worm and fly on lochs … as stated earlier its really up to the angler to use what they prefer (and are allowed to on the water they are on), as fishing is all about enjoyment, and no one really has a right to criticise I don’t think. 13. Looked out for your lorry when I seen the Tay Opening day with Fiona Armstrong on the news tonight ... but didnt see it "Very" hardy lads and lassies to go fishing in that weather !!!! Gillies
  14. Following Graham X’s thread about the dead Salmon he found on the beach, I was wondering about the latter stages in life of the Atlantic salmon, just how they return to the sea after spawning, and the biological stages than go on within it. Can anyone shed any light on the subject for me? Is it true that when the Salmon enters the fresh water that its stomach slowly begins to dissolve? So leaving it not been able to feed in the fresh water … hence it having to live of it’s own body fat? I spoke to someone who once sat dropping worms into a small river in mid-summer and watched the Salmon take them into their mouth and then spit them back out, from what he could see the Salmon would take it down deep to the back of its throat and then squeeze the juices out of the worms, then spit its body back out. If this is true and the stomach does dissolve, do kelt fish that survive spawning and return to sea develop new stomachs? Is it just female fish that if it’s lucky can return to the sea alive? When I fish for Brown Trout in early April time up here on the Isle of Lewis on a large loch called Langavat, it is full of Kelts waiting “I think” to return to sea down the Grimesta system … their bodies seem to be changing from the dark reds, browns of the Autumn/Winter fish back to the Silver of a fresh fish … although they have no depth to their bodies at all … and still have the mushy gills. It may sound daft, but they look like a cross between a Salmon and an Eel they are so streamlined and thin. Any information on the latter stages off an Atlantic Salmons life when it enters the fresh water would be great. Gillies

    Salmon

It looks to me like a dead male Atlantic Salmon, the ones caught through out Scotland and the UK. I could be wrong though. Its like a dead version of one I returned in October. They sure do turn vicious looking when they at the end of the season. This would of been a nice fish to have caught in the summer months Gillies
  16. Up here on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland we have 2-3 lochs that I know of that produce the elusive Char. Every year I hear about the odd one been caught every so often (mainly May or June). I've only ever seen one ever been caught, it was by my dad on a flat calm night ... a beautiful looking fish. Up here they usually fish for them with fly, spinner or worm, and are more often caught when fishing for Brown Trout. Probably the most well known loch on the island for catching Char is Loch Orinsay, a very very stiff loch that can also produce Brownies upto 6lbs and above. Gillies
  17. The Collins Pocket Guide is a fantasic wee book, with great illustrations, and only costs a few quid. One of the best buys I ever made Gillies
  18. I use Penn Dynabraid, and have been for a number of years ... so far I can't fault it. Fishing over rough ground though ... loses of line can prove costly, so some kind of leader is maybe a good idea. Gillies
  19. I agree totally with Davy, the NFSA is "totally" biased toward England, and in my view has a real cheek saying in any way that it represents the UK. Why dont they put small writing at the title of each web page "information about Sea Angling in England" !!!!!!! Gillies
  20. Happy New Year "everyone" !!!!! Hope all your wishes and dreams for the new year come true. Gillies
  21. Ive been doing weight training on and off for about 10 years now. I used to work on it pretty hard, reducing my body fat, and developing body mass for a few years .... that was before I decided to go University in 97. Since then I would say my body fat must have jumped to around 100% I still go to the gym 2-3 times a week if I can, but now my weight training is almost all development of upper areas (arms, shoulders, chest) and general fitness doing resistance training ... rather than on general all over development and fat reduction, I dont think I can be single minded enough anymore with the will power to work hard on my body fat. One thing I "know" is that I have to start on my mid section ... an office job and a bakers across the road that sells lovely pies had taken it toll. Well done on getting your Body Fat down, and developing your mass. Good luck on getting below 10%. Gillies
  22. Ive eaten Razorfish a number of times, found they were really nice if cooked properly. Also gave my friend the wrong cooking instructions for them after we had got loads on a spring tide ... and he ended up very sick in bed for a few days. Gillies
  23. Agree with you about the TV, morning was pretty lame, afternoon was OK, and tonights been a bit overboard on the old soaps ... seemed like you couldnt escape their doom and gloom. I can hardly move Ive eaten so much today ooooooooh I feel ill. Gillies
