  1. Googling gives a couple of threads on other forums... http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.p...p;view=previous http://www.carp-uk.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26079
  2. Googling gives an old but good review... http://www.fishing.co.uk/article.php3?id=504
  3. If method feeder, there's some articles here.. http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/1041 http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/1055 http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/1073 http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/3134
  4. And if you haven't got a lady friend, then I'm reliably informed you can buy them used on the Internet . Or even in vending machines... http://www.snopes.com/risque/kinky/panties.asp
  5. crucian1995, I did a "review" on a post asking about Okuma reliability three years ago, so the reel is now six years old and I'd still stick by the original comments... I bought the original Okuma Epix EB30 freespool reel three years ago. This is the gold/chrome coloured version and was the top of the range at the time with a RRP of £79.99 but readily available at £59.99. Bad points: The gold paint on the reel body flakes off very easily (when dropped!), so the reel soon looks tatty. The freespool lever does not engage properly when the handle/gears are in a certain position, you have to feel for the correct click when you engage it. Sometimes when you get a good run in freespool mode it seems to loosen the front drag, which you quickly have to tighten up to the correct setting. On one occassion the front drag knob was completely unscrewed! Good points: Still a very smooth reel to use, after much use. The front drag is excellent. You must have the new black Epix Pro. I have that too, and it seems better than the original gold model, although it does still have the "Sometimes when you get a good run in freespool mode it seems to loosen the front drag, which you quickly have to tighten up to the correct setting." problem.
  6. The anti-reverse on my Okuma Epix bait feeder reel no longer works, the switch moves but nothing engages. I took the side plate off but the mechanism is not in the reel body, it must be under the rotating rotor arm beneath the spool. As yet I've not managed to unscrew the nut that secures the rotor arm with my limited spanner options. Has anyone managed to repair or get at this mechanism on the Okuma range? Ironically the mechanism broke during a tangle when repetitively casting a feeder over a pole that a nearby angler had just got dragged in, eventually retrieved minus the offending carp . A good turn badly rewarded .

  8. Now been sold, according to fisheries.co.uk... British Waterways sells Makin's Makin's Fishery, one of the UK's largest and most successful commercial coarse fisheries, has been sold by British Waterways to a private owner who currently wishes to remain anonymous. Developed by match ace Billy Makin, the Warwickshire fishery had a £900,000 price tag and provides angling on over 500 pegs on 18 lakes covering some 23.5 acres of water. Despite the current state of the UK property market, the sale was agreed within two to three weeks of the venue being put on the market by Fisherie4sale.com. Commenting on the sale, Martin Freeman of Fisheries4sale.com said he had been 'pleasantly surprised' by the high level of interest which had been shown in the fishery. He added: "Despite the current market conditions it demonstrates that there are potential buyers out there who are interested in purchasing businesses with good cash flows and potential for future development."

  10. Nice report as always, Janet, although I think it's about time it was total weight not numbers that decided the winner. I'm sure Paul would win every time then . Did Amanda have an EA license ? Alex was young enough not to need one.
  11. bluerinse, just in case you didn't know, poledark was one of the anglers in the series, and apparently is very modest about it .
  12. Yes, the record bream was caught on fake maize, see the bottom of this page amongst all the carp... http://www.enterprisetackle.co.uk/photo.htm
  13. As stated above, definitely not, see http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/4929 for pictures of crucians and non-crucians.
  14. A latex/rubber coated net might help... http://www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.asp...p;ModelID=16200 http://www.davies-angling.co.uk/ntsgr/store/page.asp?80,2 My local tackle shop had some bigger sizes recently, so they're out there if you Google. Edit: Bigger ones here... http://www.broomtacklebox.co.uk/group/coar...g/landing-nets/
  15. How about... I'm a newbie. Can you tell me if it is OK to catch small stillwater barbel, transport them to a river in the close season and livebait for pike. I'll be taking all the pike home for my Polish neighbours to eat. And do I need a license? Have I missed anything ?
  16. cobra, somewhere in here, posts #5 and #6, you did actually get a specific answer to your question .
  17. There's plenty of small commercial fisheries if you dare to admit fishing them . See post #18 in http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/UK-Fish....html&st=17 for a starting list. If you are after specific types of water/species/size then ask again with more details.
  18. The "make room for more carp" cynics weren't wrong actually... Meanwhile, BW Makins Lake One on Phase One is being turned into a water for carp anglers with the stocking of 200 carp between 10lb and 25lb. These fish will come from Earlswood Reservoir's Engine Lake. BW's angling adviser Carl Nicholls has confirmed that Lake One will eventually be turned into a 24-hour syndicate water. cobra, just don't ask about tactics for stillwater gudgeon, as all hell will break loose .
  19. Sounds good, how much are the tickets ?
  20. Phase Three is designed for match anglers so has central islands for all to fish to to make swims "equal" and to rest the end of their poles on. Excess Makins fish have been used to stock the local canals, so they have benefitted, see http://www.waterscape.com/features-and-art...for-2008-season
  21. Using http://www.fisheries.co.uk/makin/phasetwo/makinphase2.pdf as a reference, if I had to pick a Lizard barbel swim it would be the three or four pegs east of 28 (mislabelled I think, that looks like it should be peg 28 on Lagoon) starting at the island point swim. The corner west of 20 and the swim immediately west of the bush/tree (25?) on the 27 to 20 stretch have also produced for me. In the margins at all swims.
  22. I have had plenty of barbel out of both the Lizard and Lagoon pools over the years, the best was 8lb with quite a few 6-7lb fish. On the last few recent evening sessions I've always caught at least one. They usually feed better late on in the day, so if you can stay until closing time (presumably still 9 pm) you stand a better chance. Floatfish luncheonmeat on the bottom hard to margin cover, either under overhanging bushes or where the reeds are bent over and floating on the surface. It pays to wander around (which you can in the evening as it starts to empty) trying likely looking margin spots for no more than 10 minutes, if you catch one fish keep fishing that spot until the bites dry up and then move on. You'll catch lots more carp than barbel though. The chub population seems to have diminished on Phase Two, I've had some good chub in the past but haven't caught any at all recently. Wicker "Phil Taylor" Dave.
  23. Welcome. Unfortunately there aren't many Leicestershire anglers posting on here, and those that do don't say much! The last request for Leicester tench fishing got no useful replies. Errrm does some river fishing ( but on the Dove I think, see http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/River-D...ion-t77822.html ) so might chip in there. I'm stuck in the day ticket stillwater rut too and don't often get beyond Peatling Pools and Mill Farm.
  24. £20.70 delivered for a replacement part direct from Masterline. Expensive enough considering the whole rod system is £65-£70 online, but just about justifiable. They were pretty efficient via e-mail and phone, although they did manage to send the wrong part first time (their fault). They were suitably apologetic and got it right second time.
