  1. Well, actually you would be amazed at how many young people have died of heart attackes and have high cholesterol etc etc.... life styles here have changed , everyone has a car , probably 2, both parents work to maintain the new lifestyle of holidays and wide screen Tvs etc etc, and so resort to ready made meals which you could not even buy until very recently, and I believe Greek children are among the most obese in Europe now.... so who knows.. In fairness the rest of Greece is not like the islands where people have had the benefit of tourism to change their liestyles and witness how the rest of Europe lives. My mother in law who lived through two wars and a famine, eats very little meat and has walked everywhere until now( shes about 85 now... no one knows how old she is, not even her, as children's( especially womens) births were not registered until they needed to for officialdom!
  2. Thank you! This thread inspired me to get my satellite sorted, I now have the World service clear as a bell, no more having everyone moan at me about all the awful whistles and crackles! Mind you I should have been weeding and sorting my potted plants as its the first good day we have had for a while, ah well theres always tomorrow.. I hope!
  3. Best for you is probably on line, aszziplexboy says, :BBC world on line Should save you the cost of a DABs as you obviously have a computer!! Or you can try shortwave on these frequencies if your steam radio has shortwave: World service SW frequencies, even tho they dont list the Uk, I have received it on my tranny when in the UK ,it is also available on medium wave at certain times of the day. They say they are going to do away with shortwave broadcasts which will stymie me, I listen to it a lot but reception is often bad, I have to start with a low frequency in the morning and keep moving up the dial through the day. You have to persevere to find a strong frequency for your area. Dan has a mate who is a reporter on world service, Nick Thorpe, I love his broadcasts. Their programme From Our Correspondent is often an excellent essay from various places around the world. Yes I wonder what happened to the West Way soap it seems to have gone off air!
  4. That reminds me of the line designs stretching over 60 miles in the Nasca desert in Peru which could only be seen from the air, thought to have been made thousands of years ago.... the mind boggles. What saint is Ilminster Minster dedicated to, do you know? I didnt know about ley lines until coming to Corfu... its obvious that there is a lot of interest your side too... I dont think I credit the ley lines with ghostly activity just psychic paranormal stuff... DavyR... do we know if those churches are on a ley line? *thinking out loud* how did St George get to be patron saint of England?
  5. I havent mastered the email notifcation of reply to topic and missed Ziggys reply ( if there was one!)In fact I cant find my post!! If he had seen any Uk churches with a dragon carving anywhere? We have at least one church here with such a carving: The story goes that Dragons are used to mark ley lines, also called dragon lines. These are (allegedly) lines where the earth's magnetic field is closest to the surface and are energy lines. Many places of worship are built along them. St Michaels mount, Mont St Michel, Delos,Delphi The Acrpolis. Churches along them are usually dedicated to the dragon slaying saints of Michael and George. Many supernatural events along these lines are attributed to them. Corfu is reputedly at the convergence of more than one ley line. It seems to have a very strong psychic energy. When asked people say they dream far more when on holiday in Corfu. It is an island where strange co incidences are every day events. Dan have any weird experiences at Glastonbury? Sacred sites and energy lines Just wondered if these carvings appear any where on English churches? PS Since Dan has decided to resurect childhood memories, did you know Dans knick name comes from being called Dan druff!!
  6. living abroad I missed that! Ahhhhhhh Pacer and Gypsy. Looks like this is going to be dig out the "embarrass the family" photo session?!
  7. Tee Hee this is fun... who am I?!... Someone else thought the pic of my rotund brother in law was me too... I think I can be any one I want on here!! But in truth yes just boring old big sis. mmmm those are lovely looking muscles!
  8. Actually that is my brother in law, he is displaying the fish for all the tourists on the beach to see ! They had evactuated the sea when they saw the fish.... My job is only to eat it!
  9. ( So much for that education eh!?) ' Ere I resemble that remark!! Why are you wasting good mussels on the fish?!! We are deep into lent here which means many observe a vegetarian diet, probably more cos its yummy than for religious reasons! LOTS of seafood. Had the tiniest shrimps I have ever seen yesterday , you would have said they were only good for bait, but they were definitely good enough to eat: tiny, sweet and crunchy but I have to admit to a slight twinge that they were illegally caught being so small, but then Greeks regards all rules as just another challenge. Finepix , what he says is true. Only difference is I do know how I ended up here.... Dan led me! I do have an interest in fishing.... in as much as its a means to the end of getting the fish on my plate. As long as someone else does the actual fishing, its about as interesting as watching paint dry to me ! "running and donning asbestos suit reading for a flaming!* Back on topic: I like the Dorset threads as I spent my "formative" years there I consider it home and have so many memories of the wonderful scenery. Such a gentle on the eye county. Crewkerne sadly only reminds me of dentists.
  10. EEEEEek, I dont like the sound of the bit where it disable your AV protection while your back is turned, why do these sick SOB's get a kick out of this? Would love to know the answer to Ken's question too. I had a trojian which altered the default "recommended" message on my Norton AV, which when I dont know what its asking I usually trust, and got myself infected by one of those lovely dial up thingies to a premium rate number, thank G#% I realised what had happened and uplugged the modem while I cried for help!( Mind you the porn all over my computer was a bit of a giveaway!!)
  11. That has an ahhhhhhhhhh factor,.... good job my robin eating cats cant see it though!
  12. Thanks , will do that. Does anyone think re installing windows would help, doesnt it have a repair feature of some sort?

Thanks but you can keep the Mackeral for bait! Got any of that Bass left tho?! Sadly anyone fishing off shore here will be lucky to catch much more than the odd plastic bag. Our waters have been very overfished. As you know..... you are always rather cutting about the size of our fish.... but we think they are tastier! We had fresh prawn pasta,( I think Greeks eat more pasta than Italians), followed by baked Grey Mullet yesterday, (proper size!) Legacy of Aris , God rest his soul. Thanks Newt! Sorry, I dont shoot either, though like the fish there is little game left here. Riley is a black lab, in fact she's an American immigrant brought here from Seattle, so she doesnt mind cold water, funnily enough she doesnt seem to mind the heat either. For her, water is really of interest in the pursuit of a ball, she is a tireless, manic ball retriever, I doubt she'd know what to do if she was asked to retrieve a feathered creature, unlike her yellow predecessor who would have loved to retrieve something feathered and could not pass a puddle without getting wet. (Its freezing here too today 7c right now!)

Hi bruv! Thought I'd come out of lurksville one more time. Yes thats the Olympic flame..... I hereby ( completely OT, sorry) challenge London to do as well as Athens did on putting on such fantastic games! Are lurkers who only eat fish not catch them allowed here? Thought a dog less appropriate ! I'm only here any way cos my Lab forum is ezeboard and is soooooooo slow is no fun to play there, tho this one is pretty bad today for us poor s%$#s who only have dial up at 31kbs today! Its the only way I know what you are up to! I had to look up sarkazein the same way as I doubted it was Greek! So another lesson learned!

Well done Newt... got Greek blood in you, or just an Etymologist? Sarcasmos in modern Greek, despite its Greek roots, a verbal skill unknown to most Greeks strangely enough!
  19. Nope, you werent on anything international. Quite a family of TV stars arent we?!
  20. S..I....tttttttttt Wrong Barbara? But it was what sprang to mind! [ 27. October 2003, 06:12 AM: Message edited by: Riley ]
  21. When I logged onto Barclays website for internet banking as soon as I logged on I got a full page message warning about it and making clear it was not from them!Bit late in my opinion!
  22. It wasnt in my history, I hadn't downloaded it. But I still couldnt find it to download! It has just popped up as an automatic update! that a bit late too, isnt it, if Microsoft have know about it for so long? Will a standard Norton Virus check pick it up?
