  1. Both my kids where started on whiting (in oct)on a friends boat on the Blackwater, both from the age of 4 , they got to steer the boat aswell and loved every minute of it. cheers Tom
  2. I thought the main objection to be overcome would be that the residual fuel & oil was a major hazard, so that it would be necessary to get some scientific support for the idea. Also there are other nasty substances that have to be decomissioned , particulary Asbestos , which is a very expensive process. cheers Tom
  3. Kind of knocks the previous statements in other threads that big fish will bounce off and small fish swim through . I also understand ( I phoned KESFC to check) there is no regulation on how the net lenght to head/foot rope lenght ratio is set , each fisherman tweeks his nets to suit. cheers Tom
  4. http://www.investinfish.org/documents/TheM...Anglers_002.pdf The Motivation, Demographics and Views of South West Recreational Sea Anglers and their Socio-economic Impact on the Region “Recreational sea anglers are directly affected and sometimes restricted by fisheries management policies. This report, conducted by Nautilus consultants, provides insight into anglers’ views of current fisheries management policies and their suggestions for future management options. The report, as its title suggests, also looks at recreational sea anglers’ potential economic contribution to the region and investigates the drivers and the interdependencies between recreational sea angling, commercial fishing and the environment.” “Sea angling in the South West region generates £165 million of expenditure within the region each year – £110 million of this is from resident anglers, and £55 million from visiting anglers. This expenditure feeds into the regional economy and will generate economic income and output in a number of sectors Invest in Fish South West bio-economic model. We estimate that over 3000 jobs are linked to sea angling in the South West.” cheers Tom NFSA conservation group BASS restoration project SACN campaigner
  5. there has been a number of reports , the drew report of last year put the the figure at £538 million spent by sea anglers , with the cost of travel , BB etc this rises to £1 to 1.3 billion . There was also another report released earlier this year from the Invest in fish South west project. The report called IFWS workpackage 10, it was more detailed than drew , it also showed that the drew report was undervalued. cheers Tom

  10. I reckon its sabotage, I reckon its the anti bait diggers myself, as I am prone to conspiracy theories, caught another on fly last night (who needs ragworm ?) Who is the "THREAD POSTER WITH NO NAME" sounds like a spagetti western. cheers Tom
  11. Sam I did raise the issue of using pictures or outlines of the species , therefore it is no so reliant on the undestanding of langauges. Can't make this weekend , having to work , but would like to fish at some point. cheers Tom
  12. Hi Sam I attended the essex nfsa division meeting last night , some of the guys are on the pier forum , I raised your previuos enquiry about signs with the mls for fish to be put up along the pier. They are going to look into it and let me know. cheers Tom
  13. Comment from page 18 as received from EDP earlier today . cheers Tom Soft soap for tope It’s like a scene from A Shark Tale. Trusty cod has been the big fry in the chippie for countless years. But now a shady shark is threatening to take a bite out of its business. According to one Lowestoft fish merchant, it may be time for cod to turn tail and let fried-food fans pin their hopes on tope. But he may have underestimated how attached we are to the double delight of cod and chips. Decades of loyalty cannot be undone easily by an interloper, so the clever bets may be on the new fish on the block being a no tope-r.
  14. It's in the local press today (nearly half page), Hi Norfolk Boy which local press was this in ? cheers Tom
  15. lowestoft is with in the Eastern sea fisheries joint committee, if you wish to write your concerns , the address is below Mat Manders Clerk & Chief Fishery Officer Eastern SFC 6 North Lynn Business Village Bergen Way King's Lynn Norfolk PE30 2JG cheers Tom
  16. I popped into a local food shop near colchester , which has a fish counter. Laying on the slab was a Thresher Shark weighing just under 7 kgs , according to the young lad behind the counter , it had been caught in nets about 8-10 miles off Walton , Essex. It was only a baby shark , its tail was longer than the body , are these common to this part of the coast . It was a real shame to see it dead on the slab. The lad also said last week they had a Tope on the slab aswell. cheers Tom
  17. Hi all I am after some information please , which are the main sea angling clubs in Norfolk and Lincs , and does anyone have the contact details for them. cheers Tom
  18. The full list of all RSA reps appointed to the sfc's is now being compiled, to see whether rsa has gained any extra seats. I understand that on Eastern sea fisheries there has been quite a turn over of members including the county councillors. So we shall see whether this makes any difference or not. Stavey you can always write to your SFC to have an issue put on the agenda . cheers Tom
  19. Hi newt Where can I get some good road maps , for the coastline around New york , cape cod and up to Boston. cheers Tom
  20. Steve The issue of the membership secretary is being addressed. cheers Tom Ps The venue for the AGM was a great deal easier to find than the " white Hart or Horse " in Diss
  21. By the way, the NFSA has established a ring-fenced conservation fund that any angler can donate to, confident that their donation will be used for conservation purposes only and not used to pay the rent etc. In the past week alone , the ringfenced conservation fund has received £650 in donations, I gave a conservation update/presentation to the Essex NFSA div , they then made a considerable donation from their own funds. For the first time in a long while the NFSA agm was a great deal better, with good presentations , from the various groups. ie conservation , team england, coaching and child development. Some serious issues have been addressed and changes are now being made . It was good to come away from the AGM , feeling positive and not the negatives of old. The NFSA still requires more memebers , ( fresh blood , new ideas, finance etc) but with the positives from yesterdays AGM , it will make it easier to attract new anglers to join. cheers Tom
  22. leon and tom, just ask them why they feel there is such a negative responce towards their organization. At the moment the only way to change the NFSA is by getting invovled , fresh blood etc and making the changes happen cheers Tom
  23. Norm , it is only Arsenal and Man U, but your right a lot of people will be sitting down to watch it , under normal circumstances I would be. cheers Tom
