  1. thanks newt.now let me see if i have got this strait.when i say 2 feet i was refering to the little posts or legs that hold the ring itself, and not the pice that is wrapped with the thread and glue to hold on to the rod.where you meaning the legs/posts holding the ring or the ''feet'' wrapped up in thread.iam sorry if i am confusing, i just lack the proper terms for these things. thanks
  2. only thing that turns me off about greys and lot of other brands is the guides.greys rods only have 2 feet/legs or whatever those things are called conecting the guide to the rod :)iam not sure if there is any difference between 2 or 3 legs/feet for each guide or not, there dose not seem to be,but i just feel like it would bend easier if dropped or even pulled off the pod. what do you guys think?
  3. hi mmc1, sleeper gobies are neat fish,i use to own a few. they can grow to be quite large and have a mean side to them.the larger sized fish can also do some heavy eating.thank you for sharing.
  4. hi all, i have been meaning to ask this for some time now,are fish from NA ever offered in the UK for aquarium or pond keeping?if you do come across some what types are they?
  5. gars, are very hard to hook and hold, but it can be done on even the smallest gars.most people that fish for them let the fish swallow the hook slightly for a better hold.there is also a no hook lure that is used.it is just a length of unravled rope that the fish gets his teeth caught in when it strikes the lure.speeking of big fish the aligator gar attains a huge size also. beluga sturgeons have been known to reach lengths of over 21ft.but since there was that problem with the caspian seas water levels awhile back alot of the larger fish died.they are reported to be netted at over 18ft quite often,or so i read. the second runner up for largest FW fish, that is not of the sturgeon family, would have to be the arapaima.there are many species of fish that have had freaks that have gotten extremly large but only a few rarely seen.i have a book that says that a 16ft wels cat was once reported. the giant mekong catfish is another one to consider for the largest FW fish.
  6. the biggest fresh water fish in the world is the beluga sturgeon.
  7. i wish i could own a few tench, but they happen to be very rare in the US.
  8. they are sold by the thousands as feeder fish in the US.

hi, your tank is a good size for those species, but do you have enough hiding spots.if you can create as many caves and add as many shell as you can.the ocellatus are very fond of shell ands they will live in them, making it somewhat of a house.add at least 4 shells for each ocellatus so they have a good number to pick from.if you can get another catfish if possible as the other one will be alot less shy.brichardi are very peacefull fish most of the time, maybe they are getting ready to spawn for you.all in all more hinding spots and maybe the addition of some dither fish will take care of your aggresion problems.if that dosent work take the brichardi out rearange the tank with the ocellatus and catfish inside, and re add the brichardi.
  10. hillbilly-there will be several carp fish-ins in ohio this year.they are being put on by a well known cag member, who i think newt knows, buckeye bob.there is going to be one in every region of the state.the link newt posted has them all listed under 2003 fish-ins on the main page.you are welcome to attend any one you wan't, it would be great to have you there.
  11. thats good stuff newt.those french love to smoke.
  12. hillbilly-we are not very far from each other, only maybe 2-3 hrs by car.but anyways i have never had the chance to fish pymatuning resivoir.i have been there when i was younger and seen the people feed those carp at the spillway, but never got to fish it i have some friends that use to fish it alot and they caught many carp there but never any really big ones for some reason.i have thought about giving it a go this year.as they said they have caught over a hundered carp from 5-15lbs in a weekend.not very large fish but hey, thats action.that is a huge water and has big big carp, they just never found them. i bet you do alot of river fishing as you live very close to 3 big ones.i know thats where i would be fishing in your area.anyway we will have to hook up and tackle a water sometime,it would be great. ps i am sorry about your friends house, those tornados can be nasty.oh yeah thanks for the welcome.
  13. newt- i havent met him in person yet but i do talk with him on messeage boards and i plan to meet him sometime this year.great guy and he has helped me and answered alot of my questions.
  14. newt-i am from NE ohio, about 30miles south of lake erie.i know we don't experience tornados like they do in the ''alley''we do get a fair share of extremly nasty ones.we had a few just last november that leveled city blocks, about 15-20miles from me.i know your probably saying its cold up hear in november,it is,but we had a few days that were in the 60's and some cold air off the lake came sweeping down meeting that really warm air coming from the south west, and it just raised hell all over the place.my city, akron was just missed by a really large one just to the south.there was over 15 that were confirmed touch downs in about a 100 mile radius.thank god we were spared.there was a somewhat large death toll from these storms. btw newt aren't you from NC,i was watching the weather channel and they said that there is a second tornado alley, but has not been declared an offical, but the science boys are wanting to have a portion of NC on the coast have a title like this because they said this area has an unusual amount of tornados.just thought i would share that with you.
  15. hi all,i have seen a few rater large tornados up close and it is frightning, but interesting at the same time.the ones i seen had been well developed before they came into view.although i was not really close about a mile,i could still see them rip through a large corn field.when i say them i mean one that split into two.they danced around this massive field for about 10 mins and then headed over a wooded area and seem to break up and just stop.it was like it ran out of gas.after this happened it was fallowed by the worst hail and rain i have ever seen.it was wierd because i would have thought that the rain and hail would have come first.it really did not cause any real dammage, except to this farmers corn field, but i don't think i would want to see one again,at least not any closer.
