  1. Of coarse we will continue our trade with the EU as we are an important market for their cars, White goods, flowers, plants, wine, beer and food and much much more. That trade will be reciprocal . The US is now saying they will do a trade deal on a bit by bit basis such as agree with us on Iran and you can sell us cars. Back us against China( no deal with Wahwei) and we will trade in wine and so on. If we align too far with one side or another we risk alienating the other or those in between like the EU. Deals with Trump could be overturned when he goes and we find ourselves an island. Oh we already are. The whole world is becoming more politically divisive and I have no answers or solutions other than to say that any trade deal we conclude should be all embracing before we run out of bargaining chips.
  2. I doubt my position in France Ian will be affected as I don't work there but pay taxes there. Why wouldn't they be happy for me to stay . I personally dislike 95% of politicians of all persuasions . They are in it for what they can get and boy do they milk the system. The names you mention are , imho, infinitely more knowledgable than the brexiteers. I can only repeat that nobody but nobody knows what will happen after Brexit. It's all guesswork but the gamble that we will be better of is precisely that, a gamble. The odds for an economic miracle with trade deals with the rest of the world are worse than the lottery. I am not going to repeat my posts about Farage and others. Don't talk about propaganda as if the brexiteers didn't indulge in it. They told blatant barefaced lies appealing to the baser instincts of the populace. I am convinced I will visit this country in ten years and say to those without a job, reliant on a failing NHS and trying to export to India and China, told you so. A catastrophe awaits and don't just take my word for it.
  3. I do hope you are right John. I have given my reasons for wanting to remain earlier in this thread. I feel strongly about the issue for precisely the same reasons as you but on the polar opposite view as to the effects both short and long term. I can recall my indignance at the blatant lies from the brexiteers and their supporters. Boris Johnson is a buffoon and someone not fit to hold public office in my opinion. Gove is not to be trusted. Duncan Smith doesn't know his a*** from his universal credit. Three of his cabinet have been branded as unfit for public office. Rees Mogg is wealthy and will be utterly unaffected by the consequences. Industrialists like Dyson shipped himself and his manufacturing to Singapore and Malaysia such was his confidence in Brexit. The Wetherspoon guy knows after a disasterous brexit we will all need a drink. It will be an unprecedented and momentous event but one which is far too dangerous to undertake. I could dig for diamonds in Sierra Leone but consider the risks far too great.
  4. The economy of this country is of vital importance . It pays for the NHS, our schools, defence ,our local services, capital infrastructure projects and many more. It is of vital importance to the population of this country now and into the future. The loss of jobs, tax revenues and job creation will cause financial and social hardship to the young and old nowcand for generations to come. To say "I couldn't give a **** about the economy as the public have spoken " is incomprehensible as a sensible stance. The turkeys have in many areas voted for. Christmas. Given a vote to bring back hanging, abolishing taxes, deporting perceived non British people, those same turkeys would be in favour. We are all entitled to an opinion but I wouldn't vote for something which might not affect me but which could damage fatally an entire generation.Nobody knows what the consequences of Brexit will be but I doubt it will be a happy outcome. The Buffoon and his fellow brexiteers will not be affected at all and many don't even live here. Many who voted to leave ,like my father won't even be alive when the disasterous consquences become all too obvious. 17million people had more sense than a similar number who did not.
  5. I pondered for a mili second about going back to the beginning of this thread to see what could spark such vitriol but decided life was too short and I couldn't be bothered. Gentleman there is debate and there is abuse and it's important not to cross the line.
  6. I'll have a look. Cheers!
  7. Phew! I won't be tempted then!
  8. Mine was about 3 years old and was great once up and pegged down. Ian I'm a plonker and still cannot comprehend how I left it.
  9. Has anyone bought the new Preston Flatback Multi 50 brolly and what do they think. I left my Preston Brolly at a venue and doubt I will get it back so thought I'd buy the latest model. I must be losing the plot and cannot believe I left it propped against a tree. It's been an expensive week for losing tackle. What a plonker I am. The club will post a notice on its website but I doubt I'll get it handed in. I will recognise it if I see it again and woe betide the user.
  10. I have 3 of their holdalls and about 10 of their reel cases. I also have 2 short rod bags which carry 2 13' rods broken down in a tube, a couple of landing net handles and several bank sticks of varying lengths. I sink to my knees when carrying them on soft ground but that's another story!!
  11. NGT is quality at a low price. It's not fashionable but I have bought quite a bit of their luggage and it's fine.
  12. The Darent Valley extending handle looks good value at £35 and looks well made.
  13. The french are now in the 21st century and I haven't seen a squat or a pissoire for years.
  14. The sea around the Côte d'Azur is very clean but devoid of fish close in. It's lovely to swim in all year round.
  15. Thanks Keith. The Plus is a lovely rod . I need a big fish to really test its mettle although a 4lb ish Chub isn't bad.
  16. Thanks for that. I have plenty of 13' float rods as outlined above. Throw in a few avons and I have too many rods but who cares. My problem is giving each rod a fair share of bank time. I'll just have to go fishing more often!!!!!
  17. I doubt the majority of those who live in NI would agree with you. By the same argument you could ditch Wales, Yorkshire, Dorset and most of northern England. I would be delighted if Cheshire could declare UDI and remain. i reckon Scotland will leave the union and I would now be in favour if I lived there.
  18. If anybody can give me a cast iron guarantee that a no deal Brexit will be entirely beneficial to the country politically, economically and socially both long term and short term, I will give them the pick of my rods and reels. Politicians are unable and unwilling to guarantee tomorrow is Thursday. I hope I'm wrong but a no deal Brexit will end in tears and I'll be off to join the Runner or the French.
  19. Some very nice rods there Keith. Out of interest how does your AML 13L compare with the Ultra. I very nearly bought one recently but decided I had a matchpro and planned on getting an Acolyte Plus do wouldn't bother.
  20. We did accept the vote when we joined and there was rancour then. I believe our membership has been beneficial. Leaving however was never going to be easy. The trade deal with Canada has taken 10 years and that was from a clean start and a non existant basis of trade. A betrothal perhaps. What we have now is a divorce and an acrimonious one at that. In a marriage you can divorce and never see or speak to the ex ever again. With the Eu we have to continue to have a relationship with them for trade, for movement of people( over a million Btits live outside the Uk in Europe) for education and health reasons. If you are taken ill on your next trip to Ibiza, your health care needs will be met by the Spanish . If we have a no deal Brexit they will not. My main point which cannot be refuted is that NOBODY , I repeat NOBODY, knows what will happen when we leave with or without a deal. There is propaganda on both sides but a rosy and happy future for this country is most unlikely in the short term or ever. Those turkeys in Sunderland, Ellesmere Port and other locations cannot complain when they lose their jobs because they voted to do so . The trouble is the rest of us will suffer with them. Our politicians are largely incompetent whatever their hue or geographical position and I have never been so disillusioned by the political debate as I am now. To reiterate we have imho an utter Buffoon as PM, at least 3 heads of dept who have been declared as unfit to hold public office and they are backed up by clowns who have little idea on what is the best for this county and will be the least affected if it all goes wrong. I would add that I do not see the EU as perfect far from it. On balance we are better off within than without.
  21. Polarised view apparent as expected. Nobody knows the outcome and the gamble is far too huge to take affecting 64 million people. The referendum was appallingly conceived for such an important decision. There were no parameters on minimum numbers of voters, nor on percentages. In my view we should have had a 55% level at least. I know a little over 17 million people voted to leave and their wishes merit respect. However a little under 17 million people voted to stay and they will be disenfranchised and led to Armageddon Perhaps, by those who were deceived by blatant lies, hyperbole and sounbites. Cameron has a lot to answer for. The rest of the population didn't have a vote being under age and they will suffer most from a no deal Brexit. As the consequences of the referendum were likely to be do far reaching and likely to affect future generations, people aged over 75 shouldn't have been allowed to vote or the minimum age should have been reduced to 16 or lower. My misogynist , non politically correct and racist father voted to leave because of the lies told. He is 92 and has views typical of his generation. I fell out with over his puerile views. A doctor in his view, is over 60 and white British. If he insisted on having treatment from such he would have died years ago. Any trade deal with say China, India, Turkey etc will no doubt involve a quid pro quo of immigration, jobs and access to our education system. The EU have a minimum wage and this country should enforce it. The world and his dog know about car washes and similar so why do the authorities not take action? Even now the spin put on the Japanese trade deal is horrendous. The Japanese don't eat lamb and are unlikely to. This deal is a veritable drop in the ocean compared to the current EU trade. Are the Yanks going to buy Airbus planes, BAE systems and jets, our chickens, cars, in fact anything we produce ? Do we want GM crops, chlorinated chicken, Cadillacs and so on. We have the latter now and nobody wants them. Talk about a mess!
  22. Thanks for that but I still cannot use it. Pasting the URL from post images doesn't work as the server cannot be located. Importing it from my saved photos produces the response " failed to set a photo" I'm stumped.
  23. I know but thats part of the fun Ian. I'm hopeless.
  24. Which are your favourites and why? Being new to fishing I wanted to try popular and highly regarded rods of yesteryear as well as their modern equivalents. Accordingly I searched out and bought a Normark Titan, a Daiwa Amorphous Whisker, a Tricast John Allerton, a Shakey Mach 111 extra lite and a Shîmano Antares 15' as well as a few feeder rods of similar vintage. I have modern Hardy and Drennan rods and like them all. The Acolyte is a lovely rod but the Titan runs it close. Are modern rods better or just similar and made to a price?
