  1. I've had one for years. Yes they do work on occassions excedingly well. How ever there are a couple of problems. Not the best float to cast as the weight is basicly in the wrong position. They also have a tendanccy to lie flat caught in the surface tension. Its impossible to get it to cock.(At least mine doesnt). I can see no way to correct this as flicking the rod top/tightening up doesnt work. Having said that its always in the bag if floater fishibg is on the cards.
  2. Many many thanks for the replies. A survey was done but had gone missing. So they refered to several other surveys done in the same type of property but at different locations. The problem has been narrowed down to just one problem area. Were now awaiting the arrival of a specilist team to drill some holes etc. Now can I test you all again? Ground heat source, heat pump etc for the central heating. Good bad?
  3. I'm in the process of having major work done on my rented house. The plumbers are in fitting a new central heating system. It now seems that the asbestos problem has reared its ugly head. There refusing to drill holes for the copper pipe until tests are done. The landlords have told the plumbers that the HSE recommend wall paper paste on the site of the drilling to collect the dust? Is this true or does it require expert contractors? Neither the contractors or ourselves were ever informed of asbestos on the property. The asbestos problem might even get worse as builders are due in within 2 weeks for major work some of which now appears to include other areas where its present. I wont know till later if the builders are aware of this problem. I would appreciate any help or suggestions as to a way foreward.
  4. I've just gone down this road myself so hope hope the following will help. Do a search and see if theres a local sea angling forum. Heres a link to a good forum. http://www.worldseafishing.com/ The tackle you suggest will do at a push. How ever as an estuary would be your best choice there would probably be a very fast tidal race as the river floods at high tide and again as it empties, Even a 6oz grapple lead has problems holding in these types for flow. Sea anglers work to a formula fo rthe leader of 10lb bs for every ounce of lead cast. ie 5oz lead 50lb bs leader If your fishing from rocks or a pier etc thers no way carp tackle would cope with heaving fish up a long drop. Look for areas that are muddy for flounders, Bait, earth worms can be a killing bait, not sure about maggots. Alternatively tackle shops near the coast probably sell black lug either fresh or frozen. half a worm on a size 1 or 1/0 hook. strips of mackeral or squid. In some areas peeler crab is a killer bait. Before others jump in the above has been gleaned fishing the Mersey estuary.
  5. There is loads out there you tube for one. Or http://www.wirralseafishing.co.uk/forum/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=56 http://sea-fishing.org/forum-67.html This is a particularly good guide http://issuu.com/djpthurso/docs/psf-book-of-rigs
  6. Minimum age to get a part time job ie newspaper delivery is 13. So as a wage earner in theory they can pay for the rod licence themselves.
  7. I did a search for memor-x and found this http://www.abfishingtackle.com/acatalog/ultima-memorx-snood-and-rig-line.html Normally the weight given on the spool is the breaking strain, but as you can see from the above they dont do that line in 8lb breaking strain. For leaders the recognised formula is 10lb for every ounce cast, ie 6oz lead - 60lb breaking strain leader. Hook lengths are more of a personal matter. There is no real need to go light as we have to consider abrasion etc. In fact a degree of stiffness in the hook length can be a plus helping to reduce tangles. 18- 30lb breaking strain being the norm. I suggest looking at this forum http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/forum.php beginners and improvers and read the posts re rigs.
  8. This was the part i was referring to.
  9. I've just been reading this article http://uk.news.yahoo.com/councils-consider...21.html#kspH2A9 I can certainly see sense in them out side of schools, until that is I read the above. Having said that am I just being blind and having a blonde moment. with regard to the death and injury numbers?
  10. Cleared my cookies and its back to normal.
  11. Im still getting the warning page up every time I open AN. Could this be cookie linked?
  12. Like Steve said the fish take some finding. I fished the river for over 15 yrs from March to October and got to know a stretch very well. In over 1.5m of river only 3 swims regularly held big chub. As for Barbel I or a friend only caught from 4 swims none of which ever produced again. I only knew of 4 swims holding grayling 2 of which were very patchy and only small fish showed. How I now wish I weighed some of them I caught. Years later fishing there we caught a fish of 1lb. Some of the earlier fish must have been 2.5lb+ There are otters in the river to.
  13. If you think about it the answer is obvious. pastry is made from flour. so just add more flour and knead well. As previously stated the addition of a small knob of margarine will help. It is generally recognized that hair rigs arent the answer for chub. They do have a habit of taking a bait between their lips and backing off.
  14. Pure water is not conductive, it needs to contain salts to make it so. Experiments have been carried out at the Fire Service college where water is pumped on to a charged electric grill. The monitor used to project the water is fitted with gauges to show any flow of electricity. The last I heard was nothing had ever registered on the gauges.
  15. I used to do the handles using sandpaper. I then got a surform which did make things easier. A couple of years ago when a new handle was needed I thought of an electric sander. I couldnt believe how easy and quick a job it made of the cork handle. I also found that by clamping the sander in a B & D workmate made it easy to get a good finish.
  16. Received this email this morning. Dear All If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number, end this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your 'SIM' card and make calls at your expense. Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives and friends as you can, to stop it. Many thanks for your time regarding this matter, take care and regards. 17. Any health food shop will have soya flour.
  18. It depends solely on the hospital and its staff. My wife has similar problems so I know what your going through. The staff at one hospital in North Staffs refused out right. However another hospital 15m away said no problem. the scan was done with her lying on her stomach. However 12 months later a consultant discharged my wife because the scan couldnt be done with her lying on her back.

  22. If so maybe we can get on the rivers at last http://uk.news.yahoo.com/normal-summer-wea...-104947793.html
  23. Having started both carping and barbeling back in the late 60's and 70's. i see very clearly where your coming from. I agree whole heartedly about the unnecessary use of 3/3.5 tc rods for carp. 2lbTC is more than adequate for most situations. Where I do disagree is with the tackle used for barbel. When I first started it was straight forward leger tackle. Which was easily dealt with by 1/1.25 tc rods. These days its big feeders and pva bags. Which require heavier tackle to handle correctly. We also have to look at fish welfare, the quicker we get barbel in the easier it is for the fish to recover. Its the same in pike fishing with the increase in heavier tackle its an unfortunate situation that many carp anglers turned to barbel and kept the same mind set. Which lets be honest has been set by the few and copied by the majority of anglers. In a lot of cases they are or were the instant angler who bought all the gear with no idea.
  24. Nothing a spaniel does surprises me. Having had 2 ESS's The last one we had was caught regularly raiding the raspberry canes.
  25. The latest report states silage to be the problem. EA investigating further http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke...dshire-18337587 The pool has never been heavily fished, mainly for roach and carp. Not an easy water with only a couple of pegs that get fished the most often producing. A charge for fishing was introduced a good few years back but was ignored by every one. Must admit I was unawares that it was now club run. Strange to say when both Newcastle BC and Stoke on Trent city council introduced charges and clubs to run waters. there were several threats made to poison waters. The reason given was that locals had spent time money and effort managing the pools only to get kicked off by the two councils.
