  1. In the near future. My son is moving back to Brisbane shortly and wqe are thinking of moving to the north coast of NSW or the Sunshine coast area. He currently lives in Adelaide but used to live in Brisbane. My comments on Australian carp are made from my own observations and from talking to Australian anglers. I am sure that they could grow big....just that they rarely do for a variety of reasons
  2. Indeed And the fact that most that are caught are killed. They are also very vulnerable to the huge floods on Australian rivers and in many of the impoundments they are living 'on the edge' and exceptional weather conditions cause mass deaths. I am not saying that they could not grow big simply that most don't. This is why I would take the reports of importing 50 lbs.+ fish with a big pinch of salt. As I said earlier I remember reading a similar claim in the angling comics quite a few years ago....at that time they were talking of 60 lbs. fish...they never materialised.
  3. I've seen what have been described as 'real monsters' in some South Australian waters and I doubt if they were much more than mid doubles. There are not that many really big carp in Australia.
  4. I know of carp to over 30 lbs. caught in South Australia but, generally.,carp do not grow that huge over there. I remember stories in the angling comics about 60 lbs.+ carp being imported from Australia several years ago...they never materialised and I doubt if these will.
  5. You could MAKE something like a stonze with a pebble and some araldite.
  6. This disease can also affect some coarse such as Grayling and Pike: http://www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/FRS.Web/Del...x?contentid=739
  7. I know this has been posted on the game forum but potentially it could be serious. It is known to also affect some coarse fish incuding Grayling and Pike: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_y...ire/5036072.stm

    Stonz

You don't need a drill. Just araldite a link swivel to a pebble.
  10. I also once caught a condom while fishing with a lead core line on Eyebrook reservoir. It filled up with water and gave me hell of a scrap
  11. I have caught both a Swift and a swallow when flyfishing...both on the backcast. Several tufties on boilies. And ny mates left earlobe on float tackle many years ago
  12. ......and you can use the corn to catch some more carp for fertilising the next crop ..Yep The australians have the right idea : http://www.carpbusters.com.au/index.html
  13. Carp are not bad as garden fertiliser either.
  14. Carp are regularly used as deadbait for sharks in Australia.
  15. Well the Trent, Derwent and Dove all flow through Derbyshire and are some of the best Coarse fishing rivers in the Country. The Derwent runs through the centre of town and is mostly day ticket. The Trent is about 3 miles from Derby but there are few day tickets available. Where are you planning to stay?
  16. There is a lot to cover here but I agree that time on the bank will pay off in the long run. Firstly I would suggest you join a club with water in the area. There are plenty so you do not need to rely on Day tickets. Then concentrate on a few swims rather than trying too many different places. Plumbing is not that important....what is more important is to find the level the fish are feeding at and that will vary with the amount and rate at which you loose feed. There are plenty of fish in the Trent but it can take a while before you start catching. Some big bags can be made although you may hardly get a bite for the fist 2 or 3 hours...persevere. Experiment with shotting and depths. Last year I had a good bag of dace on the Trent fishing 3 feet overdepth. You have to experiment to find the best technique on the day. Keep your feeding regular and you will find a pattern emerging. Plug on...it is not always easy. Good luck
  17. When I was a youngster in Oxford...many years ago I remember reading about a pike angler fishing a gravel pit when he saw a big Bream (13lbs. I think...very big 40 years ago). He put on a smaller hook and a piece of bread and managed to hook it. He did not have a landing net so he GAFFED it Didn't stop the angling rags reporting it though Does anyone else remember?
  18. Yes I gathered that but you need to be careful not to get any on your flyline. Some of the fly floatants are just as bad. Especially the old ones such as Mucilin
  19. If it is for flyfishing then you should be aware that some grease can damage your flyline. Permagrease is the safest.
  20. Vaseline or any grease will work fine
  21. The stuff the tackle shops sell can probably be found under another name for another purpose. Very little is actually formulated specifically for fishing
  22. I used to find that Polarised sunglasses from Boots were fine...usually a good range to choose from as well. Now I have to use prescription ones and they cost around £150 so I can't change them that often
  23. Relum are/were a tent and camping equipment manufacturer. Not sure if they are still around or not. They used to make Hutchie's bivvies I believe. Some of the bivvies were very similar or identical to their tents. Looks like they are still around: http://www.relumcamping.co.uk/
  24. Did you know that there are 38 different models of Barbel rod listed in the new Leslie's catalogue? There are only 52 in the carp section I wonder how long it will be before the barbel overtake the carp?
  25. Looks like this poll has run it's course. Interesting result isn't it?
