  1. The leader is usually a length of tapered mono attached to the fly line before adding your tippet which the fly is then tied to. If not I am doing it all wrong. The reason for the leader is that you cannot tie a fly straight to the fly line. The fly line is your weight if you like to be able to get the fly to the required spot where the fish are feeding/lying. The leader then rolls over bringing with it the fly( gently) landing on the surface ready for the taking. Hope this clarifies things a little. Dave
  2. Crab master, looking at your profile you are in a good area for the Cod through the winter months. Wasn`t the shore caught record Cod from your area, Cold Knap ? Dave
  3. Don`t know about the hansom cab but at least you could get into the flicks for the same amount. 2.5p to you Paul, you must have been about six at the time of going over to the then called funny money.

  7. Why not pop into the tackle shop in Padstow. You never know Ed (the rock hopper schlifke)Spelling, might help you. Dave
  8. Could even try the rod wraps Alan if they are big enough. Dave
  9. I can`t help with any videos Alan but take a look here, http://www.sexyloops.com/flycasting/contents.shtml Never know but should give you a fair insight into trying to get the damn line out. Dave
  10. If there is a good concentration of worms in one area the best way I have found to get them is by trench digging. Start at the head of the mass and go across as far as you think, I go about four forks wide, then just work backwards throwing the sand in front of you. Works for me and it fills in the trench as you are going, most important not to leave great holes all over the place. Good luck. Dave
  11. So who is going this year. I am going on Sunday. Any stands I should be looking for to put a face to some names. Dave

  13. Eden Project for sure so is St. Michaels Mount, great view of the terraced gardens from above off the balconies. Go and spend loads of money in the pottery in Port Isacc, give Billy my regards from (Dave on the Isle of Wight), lovely little unspoilt fishing village. Lost gardens of Heligan well worth a visit. If the kids are in tow try Flambards,or even if they are not. Dave
  14. Congrats Chris and to all. Glad everything is fine and all doing well. Only as old as you feel, hopefully the new arrival will keep you young. Dave
  15. Had a nice few hours this A.M. Cracking sunrise and 6 fish to boot. What more can one ask for. Might not be everyones cup of tea but where I live there is no chance of wild browns just the stocked rainbows, at least it is our own water. Dave
  16. Sorry if I offended you or others Peter, but I was just trying to help a fellow angler. It took me three years to find a spot worth fishing and have now ammended the thread. Dave

    loch awe

John I have just come back from a fortnight on Loch Awe. I would reccomend a boat from Loch Awe boats to be in with a chance of the great Pike fishing there, get into the shallows around the reed beds for the action. If you prefer the bank you can get a permit for this from the tackle shop in the High Stree in Oban, £8 for 3 days. Most people say Lamprey is best but I had more success with small joey or half a mackeral. Hope this helps a little and have a great time, I did. Get in touch for a little more info if needed. 22. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jim apparently the net you were looking at was being made until recently by a firm in Banbridge Co Down. Don`t know if they still exist but a tackle shop that should be able to throw some light onto it is James Coburn and Son at Banbridge Tel. 02840662207. Hope that helps. Dave
