  1. Hi Rab - Can't think of anyone offhand. Mikes Tackle used to do it - but haven't seen any ( or any other useful item fot that matter! ) for ages. One of the tackle shops in Dunfermline is closing down and is selling the 'normal' Ultima Shockleader cheap - but not Powerflex. Southend Angling Centre advertise three spools for the price of two. The cheapest I've seen is from a shop in Cornwall - but they only appear to do it in Yellow?? Cheers Kenny
  2. Hi Sythor any particular places ? Possibly the best time is the summer months - places like Anstruther and up the coast to Kingsbarns. Winter fishing CAN be good but it very weather dependant SE/Easterlies are required. Heavy gear is needed as these areas are vety tackle hungry. There are cleaner venues such as Kircaldy where flatties and the odd Codling can show.

    Skate Gear

Cheers Norrie  I'll have a look next time I'm across that way. I'm a bit reluctant to buy away from the big names ( due to past experiences )- but if it has been tried and tested, recommended and does the bizzo

    Skate Gear

Thanx guys Hmmm...So my 8ft 30 year old - solid fibre glass, Chrome ringed, wooden handle boat rod and Mitchell 624 won't do then? I'll keep me eyes open for a reasonable priced TLD then - I don't fancy using my Penn 113 with 5lb of lead in 300ft of water - without a fish on! - the skipper would need to give me an hours notice to wind up!

    Hi

Thats been my only outing since Etive!! There's a comp at Arbroath on Sunday but after that last one I don't think I'll bother! - I don't think it'll be blue skies this weekend. Maybees get a meet up with the guys before the lull until the summer fish starts?

    Skate Gear

Hi all I was wondering if anyone < cough Davy ) could advise on what would be a reasonable Skate setup for doing the odd club charter in the Oban/Mull area. I know that gear can be hired but I like to have my own tackle. Basically what Rod Class/Reel size would be adequate for the odd ( hopefully ) beast - that would not stress the Fish too much in a drawn out impasse.
  8. Hi Peter You need to fish the Thorntonloch side - where the hot water outlets are. Basically drive into the power station and keep to the right until you come to the beach - the outlets are on you left - best to wear waders if you have them and fish on the plateau Bass and Mullet can be caught here. The best tactic for the Bass is an artificial eel spun about 6ft behind a bubble float/surface controller - though bait will catch the odd one from the beach. The Mullet are harder to catch - but light float gear, small hooks and loads of patience help I have heard rumours that cars are getting broken into/vandalised at night so be careful where you park! 9. If it was 32 ft for W to F It could mean 32 Fahrenheit for water to freeze But it isn't so its not
  10. Colin I wouldn't laugh to loudly.. I think that only drops him down two places on Abramovich's shopping list
  11. Hi Norrie I have.... 28 Dec 03 - Mike and Alan Christmas Open - Penn Sea League. Registration Victoria Park 1000 to 1100. Fishing from Elliott Burn to Ferryden Lighthouse. Fishing from 1200 - to 6pm. Weigh In 6pm to 7pm. Details: Mike 01592 652844 or Alan 01592 560442. Hope this helps and good Luck!
  12. Sounds like the pawl at the end of the spool spindle is worn. What you need to do is get the side plate of to have a look. The part is fairly easy to replace and costs about £4 from Shimano - I've had to replace a couple of these on my reels. good luck
  13. Davy Out of interest - do you manage to get the majority of barbless hooks out of the Skate or is there still a percentage that have to be cut with the hook left in to minimise the damage??
  14. Was that one taken on the 80lb gear and whole Mackeral gear per chance ?
  15. quote: I dont know yet, but I doubt you will see it in Sea Angler Thank goodness for that! The "..big Skate landed on the Catchalot..." photos must surely have overtaken 'how to tie a shockleader knot' photo sequence by now Some cracking fish there, Davy and nice photos! - well done to yourself and all!!! Kenny
