  4. Bob we have had four runs on white marlin and lost them all, i am now tearing what remains of my hair out. they have all come between 30 to 50 metres deep
  5. I can also throughly recommend Kevin who is the manager at http://www.bandtc.co.uk who are based at southend on sea in essex.
  6. I am afraid this is the norm in Portugal, but the rods and lines are light, usually telescopic. the fish are also small but they keep everything
  7. oh ok then davegodwin2004@yahoo.co.uk
  8. That is because you can only uptide properly when the tide is running, as soon as the tide starts to ease of change to a downtide system until the tide picks up again.
  9. Sam i have also extensivly tested braid for uptiding in the Thames estuary and have written many articles on the subject, and converted hundreds of my regular customers to this tecnique. I regulary uptided with an 8' 50 gram spinning rod loaded with 15lb braid and a 2 ounce gemini, as you know i fished the same area's as you. You must lighten up on you rod & your approach when uptiding with braid and once you have mastered it you will not go back.
  10. From my "VAST" experience, given a boat full of competant angler who are all uptiding, the prime positions will be the rwo stern corners. My theory to explain this is given four to five baits cast uptide on both sides of the boat, the fish then pick up the scent trail and swim uptide towards it, when they get to the scare area around the boat (in shallow water) they move out a bit and these are the first baits they come to.
  11. i can put you in touch with a guy who will take you beach fishing along the coast in a land rover also another guy who runs boat charters, both are english and the fish9ing that time of year will be better than when i usually go in febuary.
  12. You forgot to tell them how far offshore the knock is Sam, that might put a few of them off
  13. I saw two strange (to me) sights yesterday, the first was literally thousands of swimmer crabs swimming on the surface, we were netting them with the landing net. Later in the day while we were drifting for sharks we watched a blue shark on the surface attacking the balloons that we use as floats it was a real buzz.
  14. thats very handy Newt, i am just under the 2 of 20 in Portugal
  15. on the subject, can anyone date and value an ABU sport 2100. Its a very small multiplier probably for freshwater use with polished aluminium side plates still in original leather case.
