  1. Think Poledark probably has the answer to this and he'll no doubt correct me if I'm wrong...but IIRC - Bickerdyke writing a century ago called the 'pull the line from a number of rings' the Nottingham Cast. Wallis in a 1930 book then called 'his' cast the Nottingham style. Hence the confusion.... Chris
  2. There are further articles here and here Enjoy Chris
  3. Been having great fun with Elton's little (actually not so little) search engine. Found this article from the Dorset Mag which I know a few of you will find of interest (& as it's been pretty quiet on here today I thought it warranted a thread of it's own!) Chris
  4. I've seen similar things with Casting at the Sun - The Medlar Edition going on eBay for over 60quid when it is still available new, from the publisher for less than this! MAD Chris (I see the Witcher still hasn't reached its reserve )
  5. Got over 50000 for Grayling including some VERY interesting looking sites - this looks a real winner Elton.... Chris
  6. Not a sign yet - seen some frogs not a single egg though - yet my mum's pond is completely chocker - think I shall be 'borrowing' some if none appears soon! 2 years ago we had spawn in our pond on 31st Jan! Chris [ 22. March 2003, 08:22 AM: Message edited by: Chris Plumb ]

  9. I should imagine that you ought to get a junior one - providing you do it before you're 17. Best to check though - give 'em a ring on 8070 1662 662 Chris
  10. Beat me too it Dunk!! - Another raker here and this sounds like the type of lake where it should work a treat. I've had great action with cockles (Usually fished in a cocktail with maggs.)and I intend to give black pudding a try this June. Chris
  11. Gotta agree with David here Abebooks is now ALWAYS my first port of call when checking out the price of books. Acts as a useful point of refrence if you're bidding on eBay as well... Chris
  12. Swivels for me too - I fish mainly fast (ish) rivers swivels help to eliminate line twist... Chris
  13. Err - still using mine as a book mark Chris
  14. Cheers guys - your making me blush. < > Elton's got another 4 or 5 from me waiting to be put up and I've got another 3 on my machine at home which I'll send when I'm happy with them. For nearly all the reviews I've done I've tried to get the books to 'speak for themsleves' by quoting a para or two from them. Glad you like my efforts - I must admit I've rather enjoyed me-self over the last month or so. It's been the ideal opportunity to re-acquaint my self with some great writing. Let's have a few more of you contributing and we can turn this section into a great resource. Chris
  15. Many of the ones I fish are closed because they are within the boundaries of an SSSI. Chris
  16. Glen - must be somefink about social work Chris
  17. Yeah - brilliant aint it? - got it just a couple of weeks back - was only in Waterstones to get a few books (& freebies) for the kids. I sneaked it in to our basket - real glad I did! Chris

  19. I always thought it was a Parliament of Rooks... Chris
  20. And so another season finishes (PLEASE don't start another close season debate here ) How was it for you? Good, bad, indifferent? Did you achieve your targets? (did you even have any?) I set out to break 3 PB's this year. The Tench one fell early on but the Barbel disappointed and that 3lb Grayling is still to grace my net! (Still there's always next year!) On the plus side I had a PB Roach and Dace, caught the same day, and like my Tench were had on a centre-pin. And a 1½lb Grayling from the Avon on the penultimate day of the season made it 1lb+ Grayling from 5 different rivers this season (have to make it 6 next year!) So what trials and triumphs did YOU have? Chris [ 15. March 2003, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: Chris Plumb ]
