  1. mpbdsnu - FWIW, memory and hard drive space (storage) are completely different things. Easy enough to run out of memory when you have lots of drive space available. If he continues to have "out of memory" issues, there are several possibilities. 1. All programs use memory while they are active. They do all their work there. Some programs are not polite about releasing memory after they are done working though and may even grab a new chunk next time while holding (but not using) the original memory. This is often refered to as a "memory leak". There are several applications available that can scan a system and free up memory that is not actually being used. 2. The PC should be set with some of it's hard drive space blocked off to be used as "virtual memory" which means the PC will place data onto the hard drive rather than leaving it in memory. Slower if you have to access the program that is "swapped out" but it does work. The setting for this could be way low. 3. The PC has a finite amount of some other resources and if they are all used up, they problem will be incorrectly reported as "out of memory" when in fact, there is plenty of memory available. An example is the setting for "maximum files open at one time". If this is set at 1000 and you attempt to open a file that would be 1001, you will be told you are out of memory. Could you give other system details please - operating system version, amount of physical memory in the PC, and such. Maybe I can give you an idea where to start troubleshooting this issue.

  3. I may have gotten confused. I was thinking of a vBulletin bbs which does have a "views" feature as well as the other Infopop bbs software UBBThreads™. UBB may not have it. Have you asked on the Infopop forum?

  5. Could be either woodys or mandarins. Take a look at the pics below. The woody one is absolutely a good likeness. Not so sure about the mandarin since we don't have them around here - or if we do, I've mistaken them for wood ducks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wood Duck Drake (male) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wood Duck Pair ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mandarin Drake

  7. Wind up for sure. This particular file is needed on many Windows systems (Win9x I know and ME I think) to properly handle long file names. Take a look Here if you want more detail. This particular hoax has been making the rounds for several years now.

  9. Can't help you out I am afraid but I did want to welcome you to the bbs. We need more posters from your area - I think Alan(nl) is often lonely.
  10. Absolutely different peter unless it happens to be a water over there that has been stocked with channel cat and they survived. However, our flathead catfish are very similar to the Wels. Large live baits by choice. Love areas with all sorts of cover and deep holes usually. Fight like a submarine. Only real difference I can see is the Wels gets larger since the largest flatty on recored is under 100lbs. FWIW - it is difficult to catch flathead over here during the carp spawn as the bigguns will cruise the shallows at night and snack on carp so they are rarely hungry. A big one can easily slurp down a 5lb carp and probably bigger. [ 17 February 2002, 09:31 PM: Message edited by: Newt ]
  11. Whooooo. Boilies, you haven't been posting here long but you do know how to make a great first impression. Welcome to you.
  12. Sorry Dan - when I imagined a thick Devon accent and tried to read it, I couldn't understand a word you had written. Made perfect sense when I tried again with a thick Redneck accent though. Whew. I was getting worried.

  14. Yup - a "number of views" counter to show next to the "number of posts" counter. Didn't we have this bbs set to do that a while back with the old version of UBB you were running? Stopped using it because the numbers kept resetting themselves? If it was a "feature" I would be surprised that they hadn't retained it with the upgrade. And since it is part of the other BBS products from Infopop, I would expect to see it here.

  16. Not an uncommon practice to divide a hard drive and - as John does - keep your system files in one section and all others in another. Makes it easier to figure out where your data is but can be more confusing for the user. If you do find this to be the case and don't like the idea, there is a program called "Partition Magic" that will allow you to manipulate the size of the two pieces without losing any data. You could pretty much make your C: partition large enough to hold everything, move everything to there, and then do away with the other D: partition and enlarge C: to the full size of the drive. One caution is that programs installed to the D: partition are likely not to run if simply moved to C: To make matters even a little more confusing, there could be more than one physical hard drive in the computer.

  18. Nutter - given your occupation, you can appreciate how I felt when I was looking thru my Cabela's catalog and saw them advertise a Bi-Polar jacket. Turns out they were using the term to describe the construction and that 1) the jacket is not crazy and 2) you do not have to be crazy to wear one.

  20. 20lb would be fine if the kitties are small and the water is open and your rods are limber and the line is stretchy. FWIW - I use a minimum of 30lb (for the conditions as noted above except that the line doesn't stretch) and more often 50lb. OTOH - my condititions may be very different than yours.

Paul - my experience with live wells on the boat and tanks at home would indicate that a pred needs a day or so to begin to "own" a territory before it will attack fish that are it's normal prey. I would expect the same sort of behavior in a keep net so combining species should not cause problems.

  23. Phil - the Graemlins require a space between your words and the smiley symbol you put in. This will not do it:D While with a space after "it" it does nicely.
