  1. nice one norrie, and from the hellraiser II crew... http://www.elfyourself.com/?id=1489826386
  2. did you eat the snake bobj?? a friend of mine used to catch rattlers in florida (daytona beach area) and make chilli with them les
  3. it's ok, answered this one myself with a bit of googling... it can cause vignetting.... all i need is a hot and sunny day to practice with it....   i'm in scotland, not florida....lol
  4. just one more thing.... i have a UV filter on my main lens, should i remove it before fitting the polariser??
  5. hi darren, i've ordered one for my standard 18-55 lens, a 58mm one, as you said, jessops £35.00, fleabay £23.00 posted not arrived yet i'm sure i'll get the idea when i get it stuck on my lens les
  6. heading up to fish at lochaline with norrie and davy holt et al a few weeks ago with my son i saw the sun rising over rannoch moor and took these shots. look at the bottom left, looks like someone had the same idea and i never saw him until i looked at the shots on the computer when i got home... a trip on the ferry to ardgour a few weeks later with the sun just peeking over the hill on the opposite side of the loch and the village still in shadow...
  7. hi wiggly... thanks for that... does it have to be the one you rotate?? sounds complicated if you are taking pics of sailfish which need to be returned as quickly as possible to the water is there not ones which are like a UV filter and just it on the end on the lens and do their job as it were?? thanks les
  8. hi all, sorry to be a take take kind of guy with all the advice i'm asking for but offering not much in return. i've been advised to get circular polarising filters for my kenya trip. i'm confused as to which filter to get, a browse through camera shops and fleabay sees them range in price from £1.99 to £50+ is it really just a case of you get what you pay for, which price group would suit my purpose without having to go to complete pro standards?? thanks les
  9. hey sharkbyte, sorry about taking so long to thank you and westie for the advice on this one, i forgot all about it, been busy... are you saying that i should leave the aperture at F11 and up the shutter speed to 125th or 250th?? what about the P setting and just using fill in flash with that?? my mate took a couple of me on a rare sunny day last week with the settings at F8 and 60th with the built in flash and they were totally washed out. so i'll need to be very careful in the blistering sun out there... i'm going to invest in a proper canon flash with my birthday/christmas money rather than use the pop up flash regards les
  10. i saw them on the UK HOOKS website..... http://www.uk-hooks.com/details.php?selected=305 but it looks like you need to buy in bulk
  11. got it in one lennie mate the motley crew tonys spur the strong and silent type... ps had a 13lb 4oz spur yesterday, no pics...
  12. i'm surprised they never had subtitles for that weegie twang of yours, just what is a "BOWIT"??
  13. my boy hooked one on the blue avet reel to the left, but it fell off after a couple of minutes.... anyone recommend a gold paint suitable for a salty environment?? thanks for the adjustment on my pics norrie
  14. johns big fish, i must get a flash for my camera.... and it was 193lb, not 196lb as reported by norrie
  15. hi, just to be totally boring, thanks again to linda and davy for putting me and wunderkind up in the cottage for a couple of nights and gareth for the 1 hours sleep in the caravan (due to having to get the doc in for liam at 5am) more thanks to davy for putting up with us on the catchalot for 3 days when i found the steering cable broken on my own boat after towing it all the way up. (liam's wee brother has put his hand up to that one as he said he broke it a while ago in the back garden whilst playing in the boat) here's liams eel, his first, and i think biggest scottish eel for a long time i got a couple of spurs and LSD's i'll put johns skate up in a wee while
  16. you're on a roll this year norrie john phoned me earlier and told me about the jonah getting a big girl at last, also the blackmail pic lennie got of john sleeping on the boat looking forward to next weekend
  17. hi all, i'm off to kenya again in january and could do with some advice on camera settings for my 400D when we are out on the boat chasing marlin/sailfish etc. obviously i'll be using fill in flash for the portrait shots with fish to eliminate the shadows of hats and such, but what would be the best manual settings for this on a very sunny day?? 1/60th F11 is what i've been advised to use over here in dull scottish weather, should i up the shutter speed or stop down the aperture?? because of all the blue sky and water which would be the best picture style to use "landscape" etc should i leave the white balance on AWB or change it to the sunny setting?? sorry about all the questions, but my pics from last year on my compact weren't great in the colour department and i would like to get the most faithful colour representation i can as some of the fish have the most fantastic colour array imaginable thanks in advance Les
  18. well done judy, just what i like, with boats in it too nice one...
  19. hi john, a bottle of icelandic "viking" beer is 500ISK which is £4.00 and a 1/2 litre glass is 750ISK which is £6.00, so it is a bit pricey. i didn't drink any spirits but my mate stuart was drinking bacardi and it was a huge measure but i don't know how much. everything was quite expensive there, in a thai restaurant we tipped the waitress and she couldn't believe it, apparently tipping is not customary as the wages are very good to compensate the high standard of living. on the other side we went to a outdoor spa in reykjavic and it was only £2.00 to get in and use all the facilities, over here it's £5.00 just for a swim and the steam room etc is extra.
  20. back a week now from the far north, it was nice when we got there and the weather got worse as the week went on culminating in a horrible snowy blizzard on the second last night... fishing was great though, but the light was rubbish for taking pics took this the day we arrived at sudavik in the west fjords the harbour with the boats we used my mates fishing, it was horribly cold and windy this day with the wind howling down the valley in the background. the same place as the first pic only on the last day in sudavik part of the town of isafjordur from the airport another hill from the carpark at isafjordur i even managed to catch a cod or two
  21. nice one wiggly, you got a lot closer than i could, maybe because it was in leith they were afraid that someone would steal it to sell for skag....lol (ref: trainspotting)
  22. aye, me and tony sat in his company several times before he went back home, those were the days... one of my mates had one of the rods designed by him, but i can't remember who it was or what kind of rod it was...lol
  23. norrie. i met him way back in 19canteen at drummore in the queens hotel, i offered to buy his seahog shortie from him when he said he was going back to aus, but he said he was getting it shipped over, thats a bit coals to newcastle is it not?? nice old dude, had a few interesting stories.....
  24. well done FF.... shame about the turnout, i thought it was a good subject..... lot to learn methinks. well done. les
  25. thanks linda, i think it would be a bit difficult for us to make the first weekend as liam is still at school and i'll only be back a week from ehem!!! my holiday...
