chris mate, i don't want to be pedantic but it is the customs and excise who deal with VAT not the inland revenue, who are angels compared to the customs people
-
maybe its because they have heard your reputation for unapproachability davy i find most small boat anglers are happy to share info, there are one or two who jealously guard their marks because of the time and effort in findingthese areas, wrecks especially....not me though
-
urwin, have a look at this site, the lads on here will help you there is also a marks page http://www.nesa.co.uk
-
nice one sanctuary is that off blackpool by any chance? les
-
if its any consolation kenny i have found rotting seabait ragworm tipped with mackerel THE best flounder bait at belhaven, the mackie even brings the odd turbot too
-
maybe you are going on the wrong tides, you must go on the very biggest tides of the year, right out on the low water mark, average or biggish tides are no good
-
i mainly use razor for shore fishing using it to bulk up my meagre lug supply, or cocktail it with mussels or squid or frozen blackworm (when i have some) what we do with them is to leave them out on trays in the garage or shed for a few days, they open up drain of most water and most importantly...start to stink, they are tougher after freezing after this treatment
-
you need to do the "razor fish shuffle" norrie you shuffle backwards stamping your feet looking for the holes in the sand to appear, then pounce with your fork..quickly i tried with a alvey bait pump a couple of times, all you get is 1/2 a razor...if you are lucky.... anyone want to buy it?
-
norrie, i thought it might be those razors i got 61 razors a couple of weeks ago locally using the old squeezy bottle full of salty water. i only got 61 because i was late getting down and only had 45 minutes on the best patch, 2 bags of salt and a bottle of squeezy.....about £2.00 tried at burntisland next day and only got 60 between 2 of us, different type of beach, much wetter, salty water didn't have as much effect, ended up digging most of them. nice one davy, especially in this weather
-
yes norrie, ebay is where i saw it, and i'll take the blame for the virus, if you get one, i'll send my address to you if you do and you can come round and whip me.....oooeeer missus snatcher, i have no intentions of following up on this as i have learned about thing like this from other peoples experience....lol alan, phil berriman did those "spring loaded hooks" a couple of year ago, he gave me a handful to try when i met him, not my cup of tea, i'm afraid
-
has anyone any ideas about this stuff?? i was shown something similar by someone at a dinghy match a couple of years ago, that someone was phil berriman, the guy who was in the news a few weeks ago selling booze and fags from the boat anchored 13 miles off hartlepool, just wondering??? http://www.81x.com/crabwithskin/waves_of_blue

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3662934.stm maybe now it is affecting birds so badly the government my take steps to ban the sandeel fishing, before because it takes place where no-one see it under the water affecting cod stocks and migrations etc, no-one other than sea anglers were seeing the consequences, now the twitchers my get involved. i fished at st.abbs on the berwickshire coast on sunday, because of the weather we had to tuck in really close to the cliffs at st.abbs head. a few years ago when you went in here you couldn't hear yourself think for the noise of gulls, kittiwakes, guillimots, razorbills, puffins etc, on sunday i was wondering what was different about the day in there and now it dawned on me, very few birds compared to years ago the main sandeel fishing area is only 16 miles or so from here, its called the "wee bankie", no sandeels = no birds les [ 17. -
hi dale, wait til i tell tony that he got one of your cast offs the fish just didn't look or feel that heavy
-
just checking the measurements i have here and we had originally put 74" long for that fish, but that gave a weight of over 130lb for this fish and she didn't look or feel that heavy as she was pretty skinny for a female you can see that in the photo of us both holding her up, so we thought i had measured wrong and put 64" instead, i'll tell tony tomorrow that she was over the ton, i'm sure he'll accept the extra
-
praise from caesar on the gaffing i'm a bit more workman like when a fish comes in now, i realised a while ago that once the other guy has the trace you have plenty time to pick your mark, i'm actually holding the skates wing in one hand and guiding the gaff to the exact spot i want by holding the gaff pole about 6" from the hook and pushing the fish onto the gaff rather than slashing the gaff to the the fish.....if that makes sense

hi davy, bit revising on me and tonys fish with the new tables tonys fish:- male: 71" by 53"....96lb, no change, fish not tagged...forgot in the heat of the moment female: 64" by 54"...up 2lb to 86lb, previously tagged, no.3893 mine:- female: 82" by 63"...up to 182.4lb from 176lb, previously tagged no.4173 female: 81" by 61"...up to 173.6lb from 166lb, tagged by myself no.4440 all fish caught in the mid-lorne firth area south of kerrera. could you note these figures and record them for me please davy, and could you get a bit of history on the previously tagged fish? thanks found a better picture of tonys first fish [ 15. http://www.extremecoast.com/reports/report090504.htm i have a US magazine somewhere with an article for yakking in florida, it shows a guy fishing for tarpon in a yak and when he is unhooking a 6 foot 'pon a 12 foot hammerhead sharks comes up and eats it, the guy is in a 12 foot kayak makes skate in a 15 foot boat seem positively tame [ 14. thurso angler, you'll be ok fishing for them from your boat, i would imagine the worse thing for you will be the weather....oh and if you gaff a 400lber into the cockpit...watch your toes better still, keep a pair of wire cutters handy and snip it off at the side les
-
must be good to have a boat big enough to be able to photograph the whole fish i'll have to dig out my old olympus SLR with the 28mm lens for the next trip
-
just post the photos on here for everyone to have a look
