  1. Quote from 'Reuters'. Is nothing sacred? BEIJING (Reuters) - The French used grapes, Russians fermented potatoes, Koreans put ginseng in their drink and Mexicans distilled cactus plants to make fiery tequila. Now China is introducing fish wine. Sun Keman, an entrepreneur in the northeastern port city of Dalian, has formed the Dalian Fisherman's Song Maritime Biological Brewery, with a plan to use his background in the fishing industry to make fish into wine. Codernet Sauvignon?
  2. Cheers. I'm going to spend a week or two trawling the the Yak threads on here. More fun in't it? Had a look at that site earlier on. Bugger, my heads gone off in the direction of Yakville. Ne'er again to be normal. Happy though. Roll on the next full moon.
  3. Got me interested now. Wondering whether or not my back will hold up but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the seed has been planted! Had a search for anything in the UK and came up with this place: http://www.kayaksandpaddles.co.uk/canoe/ka...sit-on-tops.htm Any good?
  4. Nets of all shapes and sizes, methods employed etc at: http://www.marlab.ac.uk/FRS.Web/ It's a very informative document and best viewed in the format linked above, which is PDF. May take a while to load on Dial-up.

  6. United? If only. Thank God for Leon and the other 'few' who have taken the time and trouble to get together on our behalf for without their stance we'd have no meaninful representation. Divide and conquer is an age old adage that has been employed against the masses since Adam was too short to cut Cabbage. Employers do it with Unions and Governments have always used it. In our case they don't have to try hard, we do it for them via the disjointed Angling organisations who seem to think that 'Power sharing' means less power to the individual. Baffles me as well, especially the petty arguments between groups. What does the Government think of the status of Angling Associations? This from the DEFRA report: • enhanced representation for sea anglers in in-shore management, from which they themselves derive benefit. There are representatives on SFCs at present, but they are few. In part this is because of the practical difficulty in obtaining representatives from a dispersed group and effort would be needed to overcome this; Get it?
  7. Questions and answers? A bit vague in my memory but I remember reading quite a few years ago when I was involved in a personal crusade against the Education system about 'Tabling questions via an MP in Parliament'. The article stated that the historic protocol followed in Parliament demanded that questions be set out in the time honoured manner. That is a layout and wording as stipulated in the Parliamentary rulings. Any other form of question was deemed unacceptable and therefore filed under B for bin. I'm pretty sure my memory serves me more or less correctly but I'd like to know if anyone knows the full details, be I right or wrong.
  8. I think a few words of thanks are in order to Leon and the others who have worked so hard on our behalf, often from a difficult corner, to battle our views across in what has to be one of the most important times for the future of Sea Angling. The latest round of results should not be taken as the be all and end all, the fight will continue. I for one am both humbled and proud to be represented by such formidable champions and look forward to seeing what the New Year brings. The fat Lady's got a long way to go before she gets to sing the end of this show and I'm sure there'll be something good to sing about, to us and for us. Best wishes to the crew at the sharp end. You're doing us proud.
  9. Got one this week as part of a Penn Combo deal. Like a kid in a sweetshop at the tackle place, all eyes and no brain. Checked it (properly) when I got home and apart from a 'Super' sticker on the box and a printed message from Neil Mackellow saying this is a Penn Supermag with ABEC 5 bearings and extra Mags, it was exactly the same to look at as the old 525 Mag. Even the front decal said 525 Mag! Before phoning the shop and making an idiot out of myself I checked on Neil Mackellows web-page. Umpteen similar whinges! After a bit of checking around and getting confirmation from both Neil Mackellow and the tackle shop the details are thus: The Mags sold with the Combos are 525 Mags upgraded to'SuperMag' status. The extra Mags are two more that sit as a piggy-back on the two original central Mags giving a stronger field. The 'SuperMag' decals are on their way over here from the States at the moment and I've been told I can have one as soon as the shop gets them in. Then it shall look just like the one in the ad. So if any of you out there intend getting a Penn Combo with the present stock, you'll know why there's a difference. Hope it helps.
  10. Wealth of info on reel tuning etc and also online (P&P FREE!!!) ordering from the main Rocket Fuel people on their site at: http://www.tgsrocketfuel.com/ Click on 'using Rocket Fuel' for tips.
  11. Bought a pair of those Mark 3 tip lights the other day. Little battery powered things that come with a mini bracket for attaching to your rod tip. Instructions said 'Glue or whip the bracket to the rod.' Glue!!!!!You must be joking. My rod's worth more than my car. And as for whipping on? Lot of trouble if you want to get it right. Forget it. Solution: Bought a 6" length of 3/16"(approx) inside diameter PVC tubing from a Motor Spares shop that sold it 'cut to length' for 20p. Cut the tube in half to give me two 3" bits and then cut each piece along its length. Super-glued the brackets (and my fingers) to the split tubes and now have two push over light tip holders which won't mark the rod when putting on and taking off before and after casting. Slips over the rod tip via the split dead easy but self-clamps more than enough to hold the whole thing on. More security can be made by Velcro (ing) the tube onto the rod if you want to leave it on when casting. Where's me Blue Peter badge?
  12. Hi Nick, check your Email I've just sent you a service file for the Mag CS. Hope it helps. The little spring type thing sits in a recess, lugs in the base at 90 in the slot, rounded end upwards to press against the side cover. Directly opposite the slider. Hope it helps. Ray
  13. The Deep Sea Conservation Coalition is calling for a ban on 'Deep Sea Bottom Trawling'. Full article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3719590.stm
  14. Nice Vids. Hope you don't mind but I posted links on my local site to give the lads something better than Emmerdale to watch. Many thanks. http://www.gowerrockhoppers.co.uk
  15. Strong words which should be accompanied by the united voice of Anglers. A poll to tell the Government what we really think of the idea may be useful. None of this namby pamby 'I wouldn't mind paying if they'll make things better for us'. For crying out loud, Fish stocks are at an all time low due to inshore and spawning ground overfishing.Damage to the sea bed and fragile eco-sytems by industrial outfits has never been so severe. They want us to pay for a promise, a promise they have little control over because, unlike Russia who shoot illegals out of the water, we have to compromise with the uncomprisable, European commercials. Put it right, lay the goods (not a description of) out on the stall and then try and sell it, meanwhile keep the pipedreams. Rant over. Apologies but it winds me up.
  16. Articles? You mean that written stuff and pics either side of the Veal's advert and in between the other ads?
  17. Most obvious choice is to find a Casting Instructor. Most Clubs have one or can recommend someone. Another excellent place for info where you can also buy a CD is off the well known and respected John Holden. I bought the CD recently and found it well worth the money (£12.99 I think). Take a look at it on: http://www.beachbuddy.co.uk/index.html
  18. Freebies and Spyware? That is an annoying practice that thankfully I moved away from some years ago after more crashes than a test dummy. Microsoft were as bad as anyone with their software but as was said above, most of the buggers come with free CD's. Nothing free about being spied on. All 'Free' CD's are now filed under 'B' for bin. Not worth the hassle of having crap imbedded all over your PC.
  19. Wouldn't we all. Divine intervention may work but I still think it's a little early but saying that, there are a lot of Whiting being caught over here on the Welsh side of the Channel at the moment. Baits: Squid & worm cocktails, Crab etc all the usual suspects. Tackle: Best bet is to take a selection of Paternosters and ledgers and see what the regulars there are using. They'll know more about it than anyone. Have a great time and good luck.

    tide times?

Tide times for all of Britain (6 Day forecast). Covers almost all sections of our coastline. Remember they're in BST, add an hour at the mo. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/tides/
  21. Add to this the new ventures into Cod farming and we are heading for major problems. I can also foresee health problems not only with the Fish, as has been seen with Salmon but also into the human food chain as with CJD. We reap what we sow and there's a very high price on this crop.
  22. Excellent site. I've just posted a link on my own local site. All welcome here as well. It's at: http://www.gowerrockhoppers.co.uk
  23. Here in Swansea it has hit us big time. Well, security, public liability and also a new development on the Dock area. The Breakwater area (Once a prime Cod and Bass spot), all of the commercial Dock area and the East pier are now off limits to all Anglers. The only Sea Fishing spot that remains is the West Pier (Swansea Beach side) which has always been less productive than the other two sites. This has further restrictions imposed in the form of 'Daylight hours only'. The restrictions were put into place about two years ago and with them came no reduction in the cost of a permit. I wrote to the Welsh Assembly (toothless Government) and received the following reply: Dear Mr Davies, Thank you for your email of the 14th May. As land owners, Associated British Ports (ABP) have the legal powers to restrict access to their property, they also have the legal duty to ensure the safety of any person who enters thereon. We have been advised that their attitude to angling on/from their holdings remained unchanged. They are however conscious of their legal responsibility for safety under current legislation and have imposed restrictions in areas identified as hazardous. Access has also been reviewed in light of heightened security concerns. In regards to your query about the SA1 Swansea Waterfront development, it is understood that the land concerned has been sold on by ABP. As such they no longer have responsibility in this area. We understand that part of the project to which you refer will be to develop the Prince of Wales dock into a marina. If the management of the marina is vested in ABP, they have indicated to us that they would give consideration to providing angling access. Yours Sincerely Alex Ross Alexander Ross Agriculture and Fisheries Policy Division Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru - Welsh Assembly Government.
