I have offset my hooks for the last few years and find that less missed bites occur.Lie a standard hook on the palm of your hand and drag along the skin, then try with an offset one.....ouch!! see what i mean? far less chance of the fish spitting the hook or you pulling it out.

Hiya,Im afraid that rooksbury mill is no longer a fishery as such.The local angling club in Andover has one of the lakes as a day ticket course fishery and the other lake is now totally without fish.The whole of what was once a very natural area has now been cleared and a big wide gravel path put around for walkers and the old mill is now flats.Still a lovely spot, but not a patch on what was once a great trout fishery.

Here goes again, the main purpose of a cast is to get the bait out where you want it, AND in the condition it was in when putit on the hook.How many times have you seen a huge cast followed by a shower of ragworm etc? And as i have my Victor Meldrew head on, why do so many pendulum casters on crowded beaches look around after the cast, you know, the " did you see that?" look. Before anyone asks, yes, i can pendulum cast, but only when on a deserted beach.A well tuned reel, smooth action and a good pull punch at the end and you should be cookin on gas.

As a match angler i have to say that pendulum casting in matches should be banned.Now im gonnnna get flack from fellow match anglers but saety has to be the key issue here.I have been hit full in the shoulder from a cracked off pendulum from a peg 3 along from me and luckily ONLY had very bad bruising to my upper arm, i was wearinf several thick layers though.If it had been a head shot, i wouldnt be writing this now.There is absolutely no need to do this type of cast in a pegged match.I cast off the ground and can easily hit 170 yds with a clipped rig with bait and as has already been said, the fish are quite often at your feet.I have seen no end of juniors out catch "big hitters" and the casts going no more than 20-30 yds.I feel very strongly about this and at 6ft 4 and over 20 st im no woose but i wince at the sight of a pendulum being wound up anywhere near me.

Thanks H.A. Very informative and couple of new marks to try later.Cheers mate.Only thing ive found though is to take lots more bait and sacrifice a bit to the crabs and fish hard on the bottom as for me at least the floaters etc seem to reduce the bites.Maybe its just me.

For sheer distance i swear by my abu rockets.Although not in production anymore, they can still be found occasionaly on ebay and sell for around £55 ish.There are no magnets and i lube mine with wd40 so they spin a bit, but thicker oil would make them more controlable if your still a bit unsure.

Ive got a pair of sundridge gloves made of neoprene.Full fingered with opening thumb and forefinger.Like the Ron Thompson ones though , they to have anoying velcro bits to hold them open.Only wear them when hiking to a long peg as cant stand fishing in gloves.Very warm and waterproof though.

You know what, when geldof stated saying he was thinking about putting out another bad aid style record, he stated that under NO circumstances was it going to be anythinng remotly like the last one.Low and behold, it is, only a damn site worse.Out of tune, out of key, and most dissapointing for me as a U2 fan, Bono totally trashing his line.Why didnt he just belt it like the first time?Then, for me the most sickening thing and what makes this a record to totaly boycott this xmas is the site of all those wnnabes watching a video with geldof and some of them in tears, yuk!!! Seriously though ( as thread losing plot) i would love another zziplex 2500 ptx as the one i have is probably my fave rod for most beach fishing situations.Great bite detection, fires a bait a hell of a long way, light and even looks the dogs dooh dahs! got other zzips and a conoflex but nothing comes close to this.It would have to be as new and fully built.( dont want much).

Got to agree with you about the Itchen, i had two nice thick lips, one of 5lb 8 and another of 7lb7.Both on bread in a marina from the pontoons.6ft diawa spinning rod, 8lb line and a size 10.Great fight!!Keeping them from going round the keels and floats was the biggest problem.The point by the sailing club is fishing well for flounder too(aparently).

As somone has already mentioned, Passion for angling has to be THE most laid back and relaxing prog on the planet(thats the fly fishin bit of me i suppose).I remember buying the book of the prog in a charity shop for 29p and after reading it to death i put it on ebay and it sold for £37!!. must be popular? That Spencer bloke form bb really is a bit of a prat but fair play to him for gettin a fishin prog on the telly.Bring back Jack Hargreaves!!!!!!

My fave has to be Henry Gilbey, mainly as its a dedicated sea fishing prog and he does take my mate Julian Shambrook along to show him how its done.John Wilsons laugh and Matt Hayes saying " me old mate" to every angler he meets are somewhat irritating but good anglers none the less.What we need are less catch phrases and more actual fishing!! so yibbada yibbada, look at that, dont they hang on!

This is just to say a massive congrats to Steve Allmark on his World Title in the recent World champs held on Chesil and also well done to the rest of the mens team on winning the title and also to the ladies on their first world champs win.Well done all.If you are down Deal way in Kent, pop into Channel Angling on the pier and say hi to Steve in his tackle shop.You wont find a more helpfull guy and the title was long overdue for a bloke who does a hell of alot with junior anglers.
