  1. Spot on steve they should disbanded they are total waste of taxpayers money.
  2. Bang on muttley you must be in the right area in the first place where fish usually congrigate its the man behind the wheel,i have koden 11in sounder a cracking peice of kit for just under £2000 they want to be the bottem expansion and the detail is tremendous but i will give you a little tip do not allways believe your sounder when looking for fish marks i have seen cod coming up in strings many times and you dont get a scratch on your sounder they will often mark dense shoals of feed sprats etc they mark very easy .
  3. John you have lost me on that one.
  4. Hi, john you are right there isnt many small codling on the quey its a nice run of fish most of thoses small codling what was about during the summer have grown very fast from small into mediums but during the summer there was masses of small codling.
  5. Elton i used one for 6 months nearly everyday a cracking blank but the eyes are a problem they do rust but for £50 they are still a bargain.
  6. When i was down at the mariner boat yard yesterday it was mentioned about red diesel being no longer available to private boat owners and the yard owners did seem to be a little worried that this could in time bring on a down turn in ownership of small private craft with added expence of fuel which could have a large impact on there buisness.
  7. The maximus is a rod that gives you excellent sport but there is one downside with this rod the rings rust like hell.
  8. John aint got to much time but i can tell you its fishing its head off at the back of the rock, one boat from scarborough had a 20kt haul of codlings yesterday . John when it went took off with trawling over the years angling was still good but you had to work a lot harder at the job no long drifts short drifts fishing tight little spots but the catches were still good.
  9. My heart goes out to his family.
  10. Being down on the fish quey this morning and one of the local trawlers landed when i was on the quey, he has only being fishing for approx 24hrs locally and he had a very good shot of cod there seems to be marked upturn in cod numbers at the momment he has had a really good week and the skippers words were we havent seen fishing on this scale at this time of the year for 10 years is the cod recovery plan really working.
  11. The ship inn open match on 7th january 2007 tickets are now in the shops along with the posters.
  12. John i dont like to go on how much fish we actually catch in case somebody wants to shoot me but the summer of 97 was quite unbelievable it was as you would say did and fill most days if you were willing to work at it it was teeming with cod all sizes but there was a lot of codling between 2-5lb range i remember one day i was working the strip of ground which is aback of snarly bank it is only narrow but the best of it seems to run for about 4 purple lanes approx 1 mile it has a very define ground edge which if you get the drift right and if drift at north of north west you can follow the ground edge all the up . I worked that ground which did have some real little hot spots which you work just like wreck nearly the summer in 97 is was incredible at times just how heavy the fishing was , on a few occasions roger tholan would be there jigging insted of putting the nets down on the bigger tides but i do remeber one day in particular myself and roger were there on morning we got there about 7 30 am started fishing and by 9 am the boat was full the lads said they had caught enough so just for s bit of fun we stringing hokias traces of 3 into 3 sets and it was litterally 9 codlings every drop but 90% of these fish were returned alive and the lads just kept the big ones but there was fish everwhere that year it was a very big year for codlings for angling and for trawling.
  13. Hello wurzel, Just to give an example my eldest son who is now in the navy was on the biggest boat out of whitby in 97 sophie through early december he said they couldnt clear the fish between each haul now that was off the head end 50- 80 kit hauls of codlings for a 2 hour tow now that is going some now those bigger boats were getting 3 + times that at times and there was 20- 30 boats going round the same area do not be mistaken just how much fish was actually caught all the skippers i talked to said in all the years they had been fishing they had never seen anything like the fishing down on the head end that winter and i can assure you it deffernetly wasnt pub talk. As for those bigger boats stopping coming down here it left a big hole in the local fisherie.
  14. In the eighties it was rife with codling covered in ulcers and growths we used to have a boat what went out the tees and burn harmfull chemicals at sea toxins etc it actually made the front page of the local rag how north faceing hedges somehow has all been burn without explanation this no longer happens now and we dont get codling with the same ill affects as those in the eighties is something poisening those fish wurzel.
  15. Going back to the winter 1997 there was one hell of run of codling between 2-5lb range it was litterally knee deep but that winter but then at least 10 90ft plus boats from peterhead started working these local grounds and it was dip and fill thousands and thousands of boxes of codlings were taken from this part of the coast that winter by these 90ft boats even they couldnt believe what was coming up in the codend this went on for 4 winters till it wasnt viable economicly to fish here as the expences often run over £20000 a week for these vessels, they were hammering the local stock which i honestly believe this part of the east coast has a local stock. Now if you cant believe these boats did immense damage here a local bylaw was passed by NESF and put in place for boats over 60ft to fish aback of 6 mile as most of these boats were often bang on the 3 mile limit and at times inside of it this was because local fishermen new these boats were doing real damage to the local stock which these guys would try and fish all year they lobbeyed the northesetern sea fisheries to impose the bylaw now if that isnt over fishing i dont know what is.
  16. The funny thing is wurzel there seems to be good reports of the local keel boats saying they are doing very well at the present time i know one boat landed 50 boxes of codling for 2 days, this is the lads words there is hardly any boats there now it has got pick up so if that is the case what brought the decline in the first place was it to much effort .

    cod

Yes i was stood next to chris he was using that secret bait that day he manages 6 cod the best just over 10lb i climbed down the rocks to grab it and i only managed 2 cod best about 4lb, many an open match has been won from the middle way over the years but the climb back at high water is horrendous infact you could nearly class it as dangerous.
  18. Lets hope not steve you keep it in yer bank mate.
  19. Apparantly cod have not returned to the grand banks because the water is actually to cold now.
  20. Talking to one of the local skippers this morning and he said it was knee deep with codlings in the trawl at the momment and they are only fishing inside of 3 mile looks a bumper year for the inshore grounds.
  21. Graham word of mouth is better than any brochure but good luck with your quest.
