  1. i think we are rather lucky up here the northeast is still producing some good cod fishing at times of the shore and in the boat dont like to say to much about the cod we get in the boat we will be on bag limits shortly
  2. bigfishy welcome--- im a sorry its sounds like you have had a crap winter but are you fishing the right spots, there is some good fishing to be had they are just hard fought for
  3. steve those at 30lb were ling a few cod up to 20lb but mainly the bulk were ling that was in the boat , but fished our club match last night had 2 cod not very big 3lb+2lb but one of the guys weighd in one 11lb + there was also one at 9lb conditions were terrible with a strong north wind dropped off today and gone norheast should fish well tonight
  4. had 3 fish over 30lb last year plenty in 20ss come on guys what more do you want
  5. mel rus will hope it was good reading for you guys hoping his boss will send him somewhere else across the world, but what he forgets is promoting fishing abroad norway etc or where ever, when the guys who pay sea angler large amounts of cash to advertize some axcellent fishing over here are out of buisness he wont have any pennys to spend to going abroad that includes dave lewis who is now milking norway with his guide bit
  6. we have a northeastern fisheries boat here what patrols a small 3mile area abut mainly checks the shell-fish side of things, i would imagine they would have to play a much bigger part they have all the equipment on board to hold up in court these boats what are fishing these areas just never leave it alone it is hammed all winter they often get 50-60stone halls for 4hours trawling mainly cod this was 100 stone 5 years ago
  7. jaffa i have been told by some of the skippers that they are to be fitted with trackers so dephra know at all times where these boats are , this is gps they would be able to tell if they were trawling or not by the speed they are steaming
  8. IF THERE IS GOING TO BE ANY CLOSED AREAS A 3 MILE LIMIT NEEDS TO IMPOSED OF WHITBY, THE AREA FROM TEES BAY DOWN TO SCARBOROUGH HAS TO ONE THE MAIN BREEDING GROUNDS ALONG THE EAST COAST, THE TRAWLER FLEET VERY RARELY GO ABACK OF THIS AREA BECAUSE THROUGH THE WINTER MONTHS THE COD MASS IN THIS AREA SHOALING UP TO SPAWN, THOUSANDS OF TONS OF COD HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM SUCH A SMALL AREA THERE IS MANY REEFS AND DEEP WATER CLOSE BY IDEAL FOR COD TO SPAWN
  9. ON THE TOPIC OF LETS PULL OUT OF THE CFP AHAA VOTE CATCHING I WONDER JUST WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE AH NNFO YES FISH IT TILL IT IS TOTTALLY NACKED, A FREE FOR ALL YES THAT MAKES SENCE DOESNT IT---- I THINK-----
  10. i think if these idiots want to disrupt a sea ANGLING MATCH I WONDER JUST HOW THEY WILL FRIGHTEN THE FISH AWAY I WONDER---------------
  11. just looked at itv poll looks like anti angler running poll, what a load of prats they really are get amailing boys we are not the same as shooting
  12. been told today to stop advertizing any decent catches of cod as certain alements in the commercial sector ar looking at advertizements to say anglers are taking to much fish, what aload of ******** they dump more in numbers of fish in one month than we take in one year, its the same old story anglers are doing damage
  13. the mentality of some of the trawlermen is astonishing the majority of the the boats were single trawling up until about 5 years ago winter time they fished well in murky water summer time had it hard at times till the herrings spawned and bingo slaughter, then suddenley the cod fishing started to drop off a bit, the single trawl thank the lord usually lets quite a lot of fish escape hopefully to spawn, then suddenley a couple of boats went pair trawling they were hammering the cod, all you herd on the fish key its knee deep with fish, 8-1 catch rate against a single trawler but they didnt grasp they were more or less catching everything with the pair trawl i sometimes wonder just how dense some of these people really are
  14. winter they done untold damage quite beyond conprention flattened the bottom is whats happened its s well known factthis has happened
  15. reading between the lines i think thurso angler seems to have some sort of commercial interest here, trawling took a new era when rock- hoppers started to be used by which gave them the opportunity fish any where apart from wrecks, this was the road to where all we here is global warming seals even anglers have been blamed for taking fish of the wrecks what aload of bull, that is the only place where fish have anywhere to hide even that isnt allways the case, sometimes the doors on the trawl are banged into wrecks to frighten the fish out, the matter of the fact is trawling has in some places nearlly wiped cod out this practise has to stop if depra dont stop it ,it will without doubt stop itself i have seen at first hand seen what trawlers do ,destoy the ground for starters and eventually wipe the fishing out for averybody long lining shold be encouraged but oh no they get punnished for what the trawlers have done i have lived in fishing town all my life and seen just what has gone on over the years, what really gets me is that they just dont get it they wont take any blame its other factors, its crap and they onlyhavethemselves to blame, what gives them the right to destroy it for everybody, down here onthe east coast the decommisioning took place giving fishermen thousands of pounds for something they got for nothing but what happened in most casesthey got rid of the junk and bought bigger and better boats, they say there is less effort what a load of ******** the boats they are using now are far more equiped than the boats they got rid off some how it does nt make sence
  16. i missed you son had to go to loftus to pick sonny up went down hawsker with curly purvis as winter said he is as mad as ever didnt get down till 1hour before high to late meddy down from scarborough he had 3 best 6lb he had been down since 4pm still poor for a sea like that
  17. is it the one that got away again funny thing that
  18. boat skipper what you expecting to catch there must be some big pollock and coalie fished many years ago off the brent field before fishing was stopped
  19. guys i have been using gps for years didnt mean to be cocky , the gps wasnt that acurate until 1998 i think when you didnt need the differental signal, the firt gps i used was a raytheon about 13 years ago we genrally used 2a decca for navigating but that had its problems in bad weather with you picking an anolog signal from a beacon if there was any thundery activity you would loose your signal which meant you could be 40 miles into the sea just approaching a wreck o shittsignal would start to jump about that could create allsorts of problems then we decided to use gps for a backup as i say they werent that accurate any where from 10 metres out 50 metres it seemed easyer to use the 2a deeca system this was very good for find wrecks or ground edges .then in 97 i bought a furuno gp35 a fantastic peice of kit sudenly 0-3 metre accuracy now the hard work had gone out of navagating, this differental system still used use an anolog signal from a beacon till just recentley when you use a seperate saterlite for giving you the differental which means you have got your 1-3 metre, mlr coppied furuno gp35 with its large screen i could stand at the back of the boat and still see the reading thats about 35ft i bought a gp32 recently for the new boat just over 200 pounds, its for nothing i would advise anybody to buy one they are very good i have 3 navigators on board cetrek plotter and also mlr these were on board the vessel when i bought it there was one instance about 3 years ago i was fishing the whitby angling festival which was ran over 10 days then now 14 when on 2nd day i had a problem with the transducer i worked the the wrecks for the last 8days of the festival with no sounder just the gps till i could get a bad weather day and replace the transducer this was hard work but managed no bother one of great things now with gps is if you loose your radar it still wqill get you home safely through any narrow peirs etc it inproved safetey at sea
  20. IT ALL SEEMS VERY FLASH TO ME BUT ALL YOU WANT IS SOMETHING THAT WILL GIVE YOU THE SAME READING TIME AND TIME AGAIN BY THE TIME YOU HAVE YOU HAVE SUSSED EVERYTHING OUT ITS TIME TO GO HOME
  21. winter that must have been yesterday what a howler 4 hours lost 1 codling off had another bite dropped the bait poor day butsome decent bags still weighd in, best one of the filey lads i think it was one of the collin brothers had 18lb of codling one of our lads dennis thomptson had 10lb of codling and neil inglis ha,d 8lb not bad in that poor weather never mind a chance of a 20lb bag on wednesday night,KEEP BELIEVING
  22. wintar you know as well as me quotas have never applied at whitby we keep here people complaining about bass been hammed, cod is been hammed just the same up here if not worse than the effort on bass with pair trawling leon mentioned about sean netting the bass pair seannetting is the most deadly, will catch everything in its way this method is generaly used by peterhead boats fishing for haddocks they will sometimes get 200kit halls 2000 stone of haddock inone hall this ishard to imagine but is true and we wonder why the stocks are like they are
  23. december 2003 a pair team working out of whitby 4 miles off flamborough head, caught and landed in whitby 1000 kits of cod thats 10000 stone and that was for 8days fishing where the quotas
  24. big_cod
